Repost @vegancommunity ~ This! When you get it, you get it... everything just 'clicks'. This is how we were as vegetarians, we had some parts of the puzzle, but it wasn't complete, we weren't seeing the whole picture. ~ We went vegetarian back in 2009 for ethical reasons - we didn't want to kill animals for our food. But back in 2009 we weren't on social media and didn't know that animals are still killed for dairy and eggs. ~ Once we started using social media in 2011, we watched Gary Yourofsky's 'Best Speech You'll Ever Hear' on YouTube, and he put all the remaining pieces of the Rubik's Cube puzzle together for us. ~ Not only did we learn from watching that speech that animals are killed in dairy, egg, and honey production, we also learned about speciesism and all the many other ways we use, exploit, and abuse animals, including for our clothing, entertainment, product testing, pet industries, and more - we made the full connection. ~ Because dairy cows and egg laying hens are all ultimately killed for their flesh, dairy and egg production is more cruel than meat production given that the suffering of dairy cows and egg laying hens is prolonged compared to cattle and chickens bred for meat who are killed at much younger ages. Not to mention that male dairy calves are killed because they don't produce milk and male chicks of egg laying hens are killed because they don't produce eggs. ~ These days everyone has a vegan family member, friend, or colleague who shares vegan information and education on their social media. What an honor to be asked by @directactioneverywhere to speak at the Animal Liberation Conference March in San Francisco! 🙏✌ ~ I often hear women complaining that the head-figures of the vegan movement are mostly men. Ladies, stop your whining and put yourself out there. If you want to be a leader, then lead ✊ I am inspired by my vegan activist brothers to take the stage, and I'm inspired by my activist sisters like @talgilboa_vegan to make my voice just as loud and strong as the guys. ~ @directactioneverywhere saw my Women Against Dairy Rally speech and were inspired (🎥video on YouTube 'That Vegan Couple'). YES! 🙌 You know it's going to be a great day when you wake up to a message like this! - As individuals change, industries will change. This is a perfect example of someone who has educated themselves, will go through a little "personal revolution" as they align their actions with the values they already hold, and has the potential to create a ripple effect reaching so many other people. It premieres in Brisbane tomorrow night and we're excited for the release, but scared to watch at the same time. ~ No matter how challenging it is for us humans to watch this footage, it's nothing compared to what our animal cousins go through... they have to LIVE through it! They don't get to turn off the screen, they're trapped in hell until their very last breath. And this is why we do what we do! When we receive messages like this we know the world is changing! 🙌 • There are sooo many ways to be active for animals.
