The Golf Films documentary, "27 Years: The Exoneration of Valentino Dixon", explores the wrongs attributed to Dixon and the significant role golf, of all things, played in an exasperating and astonishing road to freedom.

He served 27 years in prison for a murder he did not commit.  Innocent.  A person who witnessed the murder said it wasn’t him.  He drew images of golf courses while incarcerated.

Valentino Dixon spent 27 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of murder. He was finally exonerated and released earlier this week thanks in large part to remarkable drawings of beautiful golf courses, a Golf Digest article and Georgetown University students who took up his cause. Dixon joins TODAY to talk about his story. “I had my moments when I was bitter and angry and frustrated, but I’m not upset with anybody,” he said.

I remember the day I heard on the news 27 years ago what had happened and thought wow we just graduated from High School 2 years ago. We were very fortunate to go to a school that allowed us to embrace our talents such as Art, Music, Dance, Acting and even Tele-Communications in a time where that was "normal". So please once again NEVER GIVE UP THE FAITH! Believe in yourself!

The case is complicated, but on the surface it involves shoddy police work, zero physical evidence linking Dixon, conflicting testimony of unreliable witnesses, the videotaped confession to the crime by another man, a public defender who didn’t call a witness at trial, and perjury charges against those who said Dixon didn’t do it. All together, a fairly clear instance of local officials hastily railroading a young black man with a prior criminal record into jail.
