It did though!!! Back before the Big Changes to Paris (post-barricades era when streets were widened etc), the stairs were removed. notre dame has had many facelifts, mostly bc of revolutionary vandals who associated ND w monarchy ~

Courfeyrac has read and reread his friends’ favorite books so he can feel closer to them

Oh my god. this is the best thing ever. 

Like, reading is definitely not Courfeyrac's favourite pastime when he's a kid (it's not at all) but he's friends with Combeferre and Enjolras and sometimes they talk about book stuff and it doesn't get them, so it begins like that, he wants to be able to talk with them about everything. 

But then, when they're like ten, Combeferre begins to talk about Harry Potter and he's like so fascinated by it, so Courfeyrac reads all of them and he feels like he understands Combeferre much better after that. So he asks what's Enjolras's favourite book (if he doesn't know yet) and he reads it, and he sees how happy Enjolras is to talk about it with him afterwards and he feels closer to him than ever. 

and so it became an habit. Every time he makes a new friend, one of the first thing he asks is "what's your favourite book" (and sometimes he rolls his eyes because they're like "i can't choose!!!" and make them a list of three pages - looking at you feuilly -) and then he proceeds to read it/them carefully the first time, and then a second time to try to spot what are the things that his friends love the most about them. 

and when they have a fight (because it happens, even with Courfeyrac), he just takes the favourite book of whoever he fights with and he reads his favourite part, sometimes shaking with anger, sometimes crying a little, and he feels better with the knowledge that yes, they had a fight, it wasn't pretty, but they're close, and he knows them and he loves them and it will get better. 

(then for one of his anniversary, Combeferre asks him what's his favourite book, and Courfeyrac realizes he has no idea, so he just lists all of his friends's favourites, and there are a lot of cuddles and it's beautiful)
