If anyone sees this and is vegan, can you please direct message me on here? I have a question.
The airline I'm flying with tomorrow doesn't offer vegan meals. #cool. Anyone got any suggestions on what food to pack for a 8 hour flight?
Hello! Not sure if you've done this already, sorry in advance if you already have, but could you give a brief outline of what you would typically eat in a day? x
Wellllll it’s hard to say, seeing as it differs so much all the time, but I’ll give it a go….. Typically for breakfast I’ll have either fresh fruit, multigrain toast with avo/lemon, muesli with fruit/soy yoghurt/nuts etc, acai berry mix, or a fresh smoothie of some description. For lunch my options are literally endless but I generally will have a salad wrap/sandwhich or salad on it’s own or rice crackers with toppings. Dinner is usually something along the lines of salad/vege variations orrrr maybe like tofu stir-fry, vegan pasta, home-made pizzas, burritos, quinoa, rice, beans, lentil/chickpea curries, soup, rice paper rolls….. I could go on forever. I also eat out a lot. There are a lot of options out there these days you just need to look for them. Ethnic restaurants typically have a wide variety of vegetarian/vegan options.. Japanese, Thai, Indian, Mexican etc. I genuinely eat the same foods as everyone else just a little differently, you don’t have to miss out on certain foods just because they typically have meat/dairy… There is a vegan alternative for everything and substitutes for you name it. There really is no limit when it comes to the variety of amazing foods you can create within a plant-based diet.
Hello lovely, so what did you eat Xmas day? Sorry if that's annoying question! I'm slowing transitioning to plant based so I'm so interested! Also Love that you don't wear make up!! My whole life Iv never worn make up maybe mascara if I'm at a wedding or something but that's about it, i feel like ppl think I'm a freak because I don't that feeling of putting so much on my skin i couldn't do it! I hate that society makes you feel that you need to wear it! Anyway vent over!
Not annoying at all lovely! Christmas was filled with lots of baked veges, different stir-fries/curries, lots of beans, salads of literally every description under the sun (garden salad, walnut/asparagus/beetroot salad, sweet potato salad, cauliflower/rice/lentil salad, and at least 5 others) and of course plenty of vegan treats - I made a vegan chocolate cake and raspberry sorbet. YUM. Now I’m hungry.
P.s. Thank you! I’m the same, I’ve never even understood how to wear make-up and I’ve always just hated the feeling/efforts involved. It’s a shame that society pushes it so much especially when you reach certain ages but I just know I’m happier without it so I’ve learnt to ignore it :) Good luck with your transition beautiful x
just saying but even animals aren't vegan
Although people like to constantly use this as an excuse to continue on in the needless consumption of animals, the reality is that there is little to no correlation between animal/human lifestyles. And whether omnivores like to admit it or not, both human physiology and human psychology is intended for humans to be herbivores. Although we can tolerate meat/dairy, our bodies are not suited to it, and unless you salivate at the sight of raw dead carcasses on the side of the road or at birds flying by, then you really cannot compare an indulgent meat inclusive diet to the instincts of animals. Everything from our teeth, jaws, nails, stomach acidity, intestinal tracts and our body’s tolerance to certain foods suggests that we’re not designed to process animal flesh.
when you are looking at packets of food to see if they are vegan do you ever take into account where it says on the packet about allergys and it might say may contain egg. I know this sounds confusing but oreos for example it says: ingredients- wheat flour, sugar, etc and then below that on the packet it says ALLERGY: may contain milk, egg, nut, etc. so back to my question if you understand, do you ever not get something becasuse in the "allergy" part it says it may contain egg or milk?
I completely understand what you’re asking, and it is a very valid question. Basically foods are going to say either “may contain” dairy products, “contains” dairy products, or neither. Those foods that print “may contain egg, dairy, milk etc” are under legal obligation to do so as a disclaimer to prevent someone with a severe food allergy becoming ill and suing them if cross-contamination was to occur… Because often they are made on the same site as other products containing dairy of some form. Given a choice between “may contain” and products that are elusively dairy free, I would choose the latter, mainly to support dairy free companies but if the product itself is vegan there is no problem with it.
what is your opinion about life forms such as bacteria? because they are killed off in the process of purifying and sanitising water for us to drink. just wondering :)
One word: sentience.
Bacteria lack nervous systems and thus are certainly not sentient (the ability to suffer or experience pain) in any way. They are merely aware of their environment. They're pretty much in the same league as plants.
