LONTONG (CREAMY COCONUT VEGGIE SOUP) - a modern raw vegan version 😃 I was a bit confused why this was called Lontong in @elinagives eBook as I thot lontong was the compressed rice so I did a bit of Googling and found this in the Singapore Infopedia: “Lontong refers to compressed rice cakes, usually served as an accompaniment to curries and stews or as a side dish with peanut-based sauces.1 In Singapore, the term lontong also refers to a dish of vegetable stew in coconut curry, known as sayur lodeh, to which the compressed rice is added.2” Ah, that makes sense now! PARKLIFE - VEGAN FOOD ADVENTURES in KL #RawChefYin visits Parklife - Contemporary London Cuisine in Bangsar South! Since we were at Bangsar South for work, we thought we would pop by Parklife as we’ve heard really good things about them from @shahab_ym & @colleenspartanmma. 👍😉 We had the Set Lunch which was a choice of 3 vegetables, plus soup + pita bread. Every spoonful was so delicious and flavoursome. We will definitely be back! 💯 Here are the amazing veggies: 1. Roasted Potato Wedges & Sweet Potato with Garlic, Rosemary, Crush Mint, & Edamame Served with Romesco Sauce 2. Mixed Quinoa, Fennel, Avocado, Cucumber, Tomato, Sumac & Herbs 3. Feeling blessed to meet all these lovely people today at the Tempeh Making Workshop. It was another SOLD OUT class - looks like tempeh is very popular and so many people want to learn it from scratch. I enjoyed having Naz of @nazlinaspicestation, Ethan, Angeline, Reese, Shoba, Julie, Anne, and Joey at the workshop today. Together we made tempeh from scratch, including spending time dehulling the beans (I shared 4 different ways of doing so including the "hairdryer technique"). They also learnt and experienced: 1️⃣ How to identify the leaves to make beautiful tempeh and also keep it plastic-free 2️⃣ Receive two simple marinade recipes including a vegan smoky tempeh bacon 3️⃣ Sample different kinds of tempeh made from various beans like black beans, chickpeas and regular soy beans. I also made 2 dishes from the tempe for them to try including the Indonesian Tempe Manis (recipe in my eBook) as well as a Tempeh Bak Kwa! 4️⃣ Receive a full set of step-by-step handouts 5️⃣ I revealed all the beans and peas that I've used to successfully make tempeh 6️⃣ Take home at least 2 portions of tempeh to ferment A big thank you to everyone for the positive vibes! Decided to pair my vegan coconut cheese with a sous vide pear for dessert! Since I live in Malaysia where coconut trees are abundant, I wanted to make use of local ingredients to make cheese. Also, some of my friends are allergic to cashews and macadamias so coconut would be a great alternative for a non-dairy, vegan cheese. I decided to serve this coconut cheese with my sous vide pear for dessert, together with spiced pecans. Really delightful and surprising!
