— hiccups real name is erik aksel haddock , but his mother bestowed the nickname ' hiccup ' on him affectionate as a child due to the names meaning ' little one ' in norwegian ( where she was from ) . when she disappeared , his father continued to call erik such , and the name stuck .

— hiccups father runs an animal control & pound . when hiccup was young , he was never really able to get into the whole ‘ putting the animals down as a form of population control ‘ , even if it was done humanely . as a result of his efforts , the animal control has rebranded into an animal rescue , with hiccup the heir of the company

— he has several tattoos , all of which are located on his back or upper arms that can be covered easily by a long sleeved shirt
— he has a black cat , affectionately named toothless due to a missing bottom fang . toothless is also missing his hind leg , and hiccup met him when it had been recently injured .
