The end of the world was upon us We could feel it in the air. The tension, it lived inside all of us No one knew what was going to happen next.

We were all terrified It was the end of the fucking world and there was nothing we could do to stop it.

And no one No one saw it coming.

The old ways were gone the sky turned green and then dark for a moment it felt like the sun had disappeared

Then there was light illumination from the stars and we could see again.

The ground shook buildings fell There were screams.

I could still hear them.

Everyone was running But there was nothing to run from No one knew what was happening

Until they came. Humanity had been judged and we were found wanting.

For as long as there have been writers, there have been texts that have been challenged, censored, burned, and banned. The stories of banned literature do not just belong in the history books; even today, some of the most influential texts in our bookstores and libraries are currently being challenged or have been challenged at some point before. Here we take a look at fifteen significant poems, poetry collections, and poets that have been censored and banned throughout history. I just opened up a page and typed in one part I underlined, but I could pick from any note on any page, and it would mean something. Let me tell you, I haven't marked up lit like this since undergrad and I've been reading academically again for months. Sometimes seeing how a word is set on the page sets it deeper in your soul. I can not wait to teach this novel in verse. Will this baby be the merengue-thumping heart of my critical thesis next year? So much to unpack. Picked up BLOOD WATER PAINT this afternoon courtesy of @sir_rachel. It's the story of the brilliant female Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, who painted herself in Judith Slaying Holofernes (one of my favorite apocryphal stories) and gave Holofernes the face of her own rapist.
