I didn’t show it here but before I start I usually get A TON of references first. I chose Lily Collins for this one. because Lily Collins is <3
1. I made a rough sketch of the character and added in base colors. This stage is really rough since I’m just working out the shapes and poisitoning of the character
2. I decided that the color theme for this would be cool colors so I chose to use blue for the bg. I added some branch like things to tie in with the antler concept.
3. Rendering! I usually start off with the face This one took the longest since it had so many elements! The design on the dress alone took hours xD I’ll detail in how I render on a separate post for next time. Basically, I started with the face, SLOWLY worked on the dress, then the accessories, then the hair. 4. Halfway through rendering I realized I wasn’t happy with the colors anymore so I tweaked them and made the bg more green-ish.
5. After working on the character, I started detailing on the bg. I made sure the amount of detail is significantly less so that the focus would be on the girl. Sometimes I don’t know when to stop tho haha. Afterwards I tweaked the colors and contrast and added a bit more detail to the overall piece. then ta-da!
first artwork of the year :)
