Virmire | Hoc | Sentry Omega
On Virmire, when Saren is choking Shepard, is your LI there? How do they react to seeing it happen and not being able to help? If they aren't there, how do they react when they hear about it later?
I'm a Shakarian man, but I don't fancy an ME1 Garrus romance. I think it works better in ME2 with him more mature and Shepard back from the dead more willing to find companionship.
I'm sure Garrus reacted the same way most companions did, feared for her but also realized she was capable of going hand to hand with Saren, respect.
Why did Maria Shepard leave Kaidan behind on Virmire? None of your business, Cerberus dogs.
Maria is absolutely not telling those two (Jacob and Miranda), that she just met five minutes ago, about Ashley. No way, no hell.
Meanwhile, in Maria's memories...
There is nothing that can prepare you in any Bioware game for being on Virmire, sending your love interest with the salarians, and then getting constant progress updates. Having to make the choice to make their lives harder with the Geth or take on the threat yourself (you'd never). And then the twin calls for help. And it's a choice but it was never a choice.
I've played this game before - but I romanced Liara the first time. Romancing Ashley and sending her with the salarians - having the constant sound of Maria Shepard's girlfriend's life in jeopardy over the radio...just...damn.
All That Remains (A Post-Virmire Fic)
Words: 2170 Relationships: Ashley Williams/Female Shepard (building) A post-Virmire story. (Warning: Deals with themes including grief and survivor's guilt)

After Virmire, Ashley Williams can't sleep. The nightmares simply don't relent. Eden Prime was bad enough, but she's alive after Virmire and she knows why Maria Shepard saved her.
The next 12 hours see her arguing with an empty vehicle bay, trying and failing to get Dr. Chakwas to prescribe her a sedative, and a surprise final message from an old friend.
Kaidan always WAS perceptive.
Playing Mass Effect 1 for the second time, and seeing Virmire - and only Virmire - left on my quest list gives me the EXACT same feeling of dread as seeing 'All That Remains' when playing Dragon Age 2.
PoV: Shepard is kicking your ass on Virmire
(I know the omniblade isn't accurate to me1 but I love it so whatever lol)
It seems like most people have Kaidan set the bomb on Virmire. And I get it bc he's a tech expert. But hear me out
Kirrahe says it's a simple bomb that anyone could set
You don't need to defend the bomb once it's set. Kirrahe tells you at the start that the bomb is "highly impervious to damage from external sources" and that once it's armed it should be smooth sailing.
It makes more sense for Kaidan to go with the salarians as he's a sentinel and has the most ways to help them (beyond his combat skills, also his leadership etc)
It makes more sense to go to the AA tower to evac the salarians than it does to rush to a site where the bomb is supposed to go off any minute, especially since the AA guns on that tower could feasibly be targeting the Normandy as it retreats, if the geth regain control of it
However 2 big flaws
It's been so long since I've had Kaidan with me when i speak to sovereign, and I know he would really enjoy and appreciate that conversation more than almost anyone else
It's too cute carrying him back onto the normandy ❤️
But then again
Delicious tension sending Kaidan off when he's been on my squad the whole game, both worrying if the other will be ok
Spend one last mission w Ash before she dies :((((((
Related, feel less like you're meanly sending her to her death (by sending her off with the salarians at the start and then never going back for her, abandoning her)
So anyway yeah choice is yours
