Today as part of the climate strike a gaggle of Uni actors marched the Main Street of Wagga. I’m definitely going to lose my voice but every second was worth it

“B-Grade Material”. When I saw the title, I knew that this was an album of outakes (apparently from “Restless”). But, how often does an album of outtakes surpass one’s expectations? I remember thinking that “Dead Letter Office” from R.E.M. was outstanding.
“B-Grade Material” is excellent. You can’t beat “No Reasons” for an album opener. And, in my estimation, The Ocean Party have a unique sound. It’s really hard to pinpoint their influences. The Triffids, Prefab Sprout, and a slew of other contemporary Australian artists begin to tell the tale - but The Ocean Party do have a unique sound. I think this is due to the fact that they have so many songwriters with various side-projects: Ciggie Witch, The Removalists, Snowy Nasdaq & Snowy Life, or Cool Sounds.
The Ocean Party will be playing live on KDVS on March 25th (4 pm). They will also be playing live at Armadillo Music, in Davis, CA, on the evening of March 25th.
Some philosophy about following your dream, but your dream doesn't really know where it's going. I don't know who took the photo, but that's me in the mid 80s, probably in the legendary Bootleg, Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia.
Here are the lyrics:
So you wanna be a drummer in a rock'n'roll band, Well, here's a coupla things that you should understand. It might look easy but you practice for years, You got 4 limbs working but you play with your ears.
Come on! Let's go!
Now you're getting ready for another gig, (The highs are high and the lows are low) With another rockin' band that'll never be big. (The highs are high and the lows are low) The money's good but it'll run out soon, (Sometimes you're off and sometimes you're on) 'Cause not everyone can be a Moon the Loon. (My friends call me Keith but you can call me John)
Come on! Let's go!
(He used to be a drummer in a rock'n'roll band But now he holds an hourglass, watching the sand.)
Come on! Let's go!

This is the third post in a series documenting the creation of my new work Emergency Blankets for the MAPBM event ‘Carnivale Catastrophe’ (curated by Dr Fiona Davies) as part of Cementa22. ‘Carnivale Catastrophe’ is supported by Festivals Australia and NAB and Emergency Blankets is additionally supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
In the first post I shared the process involved in creating test quilts for the first emergency blanket. In the second post I discussed the creation of the wagga blanket and some problems we encountered. In this installment I will provide some insight into the creation of the second emergency blanket.
