Good day your Majesty
I was wondering what your opinion on interpretations that the awrah for Muslim women is less than everything but hands or face, or rather the interpretation in general that hijab isn't fard? I've been a hijabi for 13 years from what I only recently learned was a salafist madrasa so I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on hijab
My take? Do whatever you want with your own body, my opinion doesn’t matter. It’s your life. No one has the right to tell you what to do.
Unfortunately, hijab is considered fard in all four Sunni madhhabs by mainstream jurists, but that hasn’t stopped most Muslim women from leaving their hair uncovered lol.
Sure, some scholars are offering modernist or reformist takes on the ruling (see Khaled Abou El Fadl, Amina Wadud), but for now, in Sunni orthodoxy, it’s still considered fard.
Bottom line: do you. Whether you stick with traditional rulings or follow reformist opinions is totally up to you. I mean, I’m a lesbian...what do you think I feel about this?
Wearing the hijab in Muslim-majority countries has its ups and downs. I suspect you know that already.
