Kakashi going from wanting to end Obito himself, to being somewhat indifferent about him, to telling him to pay his debt while alive instead of using Rinne Tensei in the span of like an hour, if not shorter, is a whole new level of character development
Like, my man was basically willing to give up on thousands of people that could've been brought back just to have Obito alive
The biggest flaw of the War Arc is that it had incredible emotional potential, and it was all wasted. I know I'm not the first one to say it but it's so frustrating. Naruto barely reacts when his dad arrives on the battlefield. Minato barely reacts when he meets his son. Hashirama learns about everything Madara has done and he's just like "oh no :(". Kakashi shows no emotion when he sees Minato. Minato shows no emotion when he sees Kakashi. Nobody bats an eye when learning that Naruto is the Fourth Hokage's son. Minato is as calm as ever while his son is dying. Kakashi is as calm as ever while his student, teammate and friend is dying. Sasuke comes back after years and everyone is just like "oh". Sasuke comes back after years and Naruto, who's been literally obsessed with him the whole time, just goes like "oh cool". Minato and Naruto are in the same place for hours but they interact way less than they could've had, and there's not a lot of touching moments between them. Tsunade sees Hashirama again after decades and they both barely react. And I'm sure there's more moments like that that I'm forgetting and that I'll add later. We could've gotten so much awesome, moving, emotional moments, but all these moments have been ruined because huh... Kishimoto wanted to get this over with as soon as possible I guess?
Congrats! My favorite Vinland saga writer deserves it. As for the prompt, I’m curious as to what you would come up with for thorfinn and tug.
Unrelated, but I always thought an interesting au for TSAWH would be where thorfinn and reader reunite in Iceland (reader went with Leif and reader still has some hard feelings about him running into the hall after askeladd).
WHO ME???? (。・ω・。)
For the first question, I'd say reader got more pragmatic, learning to negotiate and live in a community to survive a harsher climate. Trade, slaughtering cattle, fishing, livestock, spinning wool to garments...
There'd definitely be bad blood that neither party want. It's a miracle both you and Thorfinn are alive and free, so you never thought you could live with him again. A whole lot of wanting to remain resentful but needing to move on to be with the other again.
For this one I chose War Arc!Thorfinn since he's begrudgingly soft than in the future teehee.
Request - Tug; Tugging on one's sleeve to get them to follow - War Arc!Thorfinn
Their screams of laughter was ear-splitting.
Thorfinn gathered his blanket and daggers, hoisting the former over his shoulder as he expectantly stared at you. A nod to the woods wasn't enough to get you to follow - or get the hint. With a sigh his thumb and forefinger gingerly brushed the end of your sleeve before fully grapping it between his digits and tugging you into the direction of the forest.
You couldn't help but crack a grin as you watched the back of his head, his far smaller stature, as the blonde wordlessly dragged you. No spot seemed far away enough from the band before he finally rested near a small pond. He was just as quiet gathering wood and litting the bonfire.
The twinkling of the stars above reflecting on the small and calm surface, branding this small place as a sanctuary, even if a temporary one. The guffaws of the others rung in the dark night, the smoke of their own fires swirling up into the cloudless sky from beyond the tallest of trees.
Thorfinn strictly followed his routine at this hour of the day. Isolation, bonfire, food to gnaw on, and sleep. Most times, he stayed up to keep watch.
You sighed heavily as you tucked your blanket tighter around you. The breeze around was small but the air cold enough to leave your ears and nose red. Thorfinn let out a grunt as he rose one arm, his own blanket around his short form. It was wise to hide your smile at his actions lest he sneered and immediately wrapped his arm around his stomach, leaving you freezing.
"It's not funny. Unless you find freezing to death hilarious." Letting out a breathless chuckle, you shook your head. "No, it's not that." The blonde rose a brow, the scowl never leaving. His arm still in mid-air, he watched expectantly, your every move. His brown eyes traveled from you, to the meadow and the pond. Quickly shooting another glance, he still saw you sitting completely still. With great effort he bit down his sigh and reached for your sleeve, tugging on it.
One tug. Two tugs.
Enough is enough, you decided, and scooted closer. Slowly, a bit awkwardly, his hand rose from your wrist to your shoulder blade and his arm around your back, his warm palm gripping your upper arm.
Honestly - honestly - by now he should be used to it. Used to the fact that you lean your body into his, rest your head on his shoulder at cold nights. The lonely scenery of a bonfire before him, with the quiet chirpings of the wood's critters and you beside him, leaning for warmth and protection. Companionship. Love.
And as a part of his brain scolds him for it, he still can never meet your gaze. Lips pursed in a scowl, his gaze as far away from you as possible. Forcing himself to focus on his surroundings and possible dangers yet knowing he should be aware enough to notice if you get too cold again. Not feeling any embarassment when your warm breath hits his face as you fall into a deep slumber nor any shame when he finally looks at you when you finally are asleep and cannot see him like this. Perceive him in such an intimate and vulnerable state.
It should feel wrong but it doesn't. His head rests on yours as he stares at the crackling flames, letting the peacefulness wash over him. He's glad that the mere act of tugging you towards the places he wants to rest at is all you need to follow. Just the thought of it though, leaves his heart stuttering.
the way every member of the LOV represents a different problem in the bnha universe and hero society, but then none of those problems are actually solved
how to fix the narrative issues with the war arc without changing anything:
Accept that Hagoromo (the sage of six paths) was just a crazy ghost. people get mad about the reincarnated enemies/brothers/whatever plotline. if it was true it would be very annoying. but it's clearly not true lol. Hagoromo: "You two are the reincarnations of my sons!" // Naruto & Sasuke: (pretending to agree with the old guy's ramblings so that he'll go away) "Yeah... for sure."
Rinterpretation. enjoy the Rin flashback scenes on a different level from whatever Obito thinks he's telling you about her. dive into 10 layers of literary analysis every time you see her.
Tenten. (based on the issue with the war arc that the side characters get no screen time. that's true, but...) have fun with the glimpses of tenten. whenever she shows up, she's having a good time. celebrate with her. enjoy the scenes where she discovers her iconic battle fan and the legendary tools. her tsukyomi filler isn't that bad either.
Kaguya. yeah she's an alien who appears out of nowhere. no foreshadowing, doesn't make sense in the narrative. that's all fair, but just enjoy the Kaguaino plotline. idk
Sasuke. listen, i'm a Sasuke fan. he was usually right. the tragedy is that he actually cared about Naruto & Sakura and that was his downfall. he cared too much. because of that love, he entered right back into the system of the 5 great nations and settled by distancing himself instead of continuing to question the practices of shinobi. in this essay i will...
Neji. ok this is hard to defend. i mean it's really just depressing and shows that the Hyuga never changed. i guess considering the cycles of tragedy, his death is narratively interesting. he died just like his father, protecting the main branch as an act of his "free will." (was it really his free will after years of conditioning to protect the main branch? did Hizashi really write that letter to Neji or did Hiashi lie? did the Hyuga ever stop the practice of the caged bird seal?) lots of very depressing questions to consider here.
