Preferences - Meeting For The First Time

Ironman - Tony Stark-

Tony Stark was a brat. You had seen him on TV so many times and your best friend, Pepper, worked for him. You never get to see her as you are overseas for work so you go to Stark tower to surprise her. When you get to her office though Tony Stark is there also. You try to ignore him but Pepper introduces you to each other. When he finally left you and Pepper talked for the rest of the day. As you were leaving you walk into Tony again. You both do some flirting, you not really caring. Then you went home so you could talk to your family. That is how you meet him. And you still didn't like him.

Wolverine - James "Logan" Howlett-

Being a mutant was always hard for you but teaching kids was what you loved to do. No one knew about your ability's so when a man in a wheelchair, a guy wearing red glasses and a tall hot guy walks into your classroom asking about them, you are more than surprised. You didn't know what to do as you were never asked these questions. You found out their names and the professor asked a question you didn't even know could be asked. If you wanted to teach at his school. You had said yes for two reasons. Reason 1: you get to teach kids that are like you, and Reason 2: Logan was hot.

Spiderman - Peter Parker-

Moving school was something you did a lot. Your dad moved all the time because of his job so you never needed to make friends or go to school. But this time your mum wanted to stay so you were forced to go to school instead of being home-schooled. You walked in not knowing anyone and you knew you would have to make some friends if you were going to stay here. When you were trying to find the office, you run into two people. One was Ned and the other was Peter. They help you get to class and even asked if you wanted to sit with them. You said yes cause you wanted to get to know them both better. Mainly Peter.

Thor-

Driving in a remote place going into a storm isn't your idea of fun. Your sister Jane wanted to look into a storm and your evening of fun turned into an evening of work. You didn't want to do this. You were the one driving so when you hit someone you started to panic. What would happen if they died? Well, he didn't. You got so scared when he jumped up and almost attacked you guys. Luckily Darcy had the taser on her. You only wished she did it when he was in the car.

Hulk - Bruce Banner-

You're Tony Starks assistant and so you also have to work with the Avengers when he joined their little hero team. You were in the tower when Loki took over it but you were lucky enough that he didn't know you were there so you didn't get hurt. One night when you go down to Tony's lab to see if he needed you, you are face to face with one of the people that helped save New York and your life. You were almost speechless as you didn't know what to do but when Tony notice you were in the room staring, he couldn't help himself. Bruce had to leave and after a quick hello and names, he was gone. Tony didn't stop teasing you both for months.

Captain America - Steve Rogers-

You were in charge of looking after Steve when he came out of the ice. You had to make sure he didn't find out that he had been sleeping for more than 70 years. They made a mistake though because the game playing on the TV was a game Steve had gone to in person. You didn't know what to do when he started coming at you all freaked out so you pressed the help button that went to Fury. He dealt with him outside as by the time he got there Steve was in the streets. When Steve was calm though, you two had a chat and he kept saying he was sorry for scaring you. You didn't tell him you were Peggy's daughter as you knew that would freak him out.

Daredevil - Matt Murdock-

You were being charged with killing your best friend Karen. You weren't even at the apartment that night and as soon as you walked into the apartment the cops were putting handcuffs around your wrists and taking you to jail. With no money and no lawyer, you had no hope in getting out of this place. But when two men come to your rescue and say they will help you, in this case, your life gets better. Matt took you to his place and you two get along really well. It's sad that he was your latest target. Well, Daredevil was. You didn't know Matt and Daredevil were the same person at the time.

Deadpool - Wade Wilson-

You met him at Sister Margaret. You were there for a drink but didn't think you would get to meet Wade. Your friends with the bartender and you have heard many stories about him from Weasel. Now you get to judge him for yourself. The story Weasel had told you weren't far from the real deal. Wade was really nice that night and you didn't think it would go any further than the bar. You were so wrong. But it was a good night and ended with you sneaking out of his place at 2 in the morning.

Cyclops - Scott Summers-

You weren't a mutant but you were living at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. You're only there because your father is Charles. You were there the day Alex Summers brought in his younger brother Scott and your father had given you the responsibility to look after Scott and to have him control his ability. You knew it would be hard but you started off good. Scott couldn't see you and that was how you liked it.

Nick Fury-

Your brother had just come out as Iron man even though he was told not to. He's asked to join the Avengers program and when he asks you to join as well, you are more than happy to. You have to look after your little brother from staying out of trouble. It was your job. You had met in the Heli carrier. He didn't know you were going and he wasn't pleased to see a civilian there. Tony had cleared it up and then it was down to business. You thought it was hot watching Fury talk so strongly and you couldn't wait to work with him more often.

Professor X-

You were Scott's older sister and when you and Alex had to go to Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters you stayed with them both. You got to meet all the teachers and students and after a while, you finally met Charles who you knew a bit about as Alex talked highly about him. You and Charles had hit it off straight away. You both had the same abilities and you bonded over it and how hard it was to first get your abilities under control when you first found out about them. But there was more to it than just that and you both knew that.

Winter Soldier - Bucky Barnes-

You had just joined the Avengers and the first thing you have to do is save someone's life. You don't know how they got into this mess but you helped anyway, it was your job anyway. During this time, you meet many of the Avengers and get to see them in action but one takes you by surprise. That one being The Winter Soldier. He was quick for his size and he didn't let anything distract him. It was enchanting. Because you were looking at him so much, he had to save you a few times. You both started talking while fighting as well. For a 90-year-old he looked really good for his age.

Doctor Strange - Stephen Strange-

You were a nurse and it was your first day at a new hospital. You had been told you would be working with one of the best doctors in the hospital but you didn't think they would really put you with them. He was really arrogant and only did what was a challenge. To be honest you thought he as a jerk. When you first talked that is what you thought and it didn't change for the whole day. You hoped that it was different the next day.

Black Panther - T'Challa-

You helped Bucky escape his apartment. You were with Steve when he asked Bucky to come with him and when Bucky jumped out the window. You went with Bucky through the window. When you first saw him, you were shocked. You talked to him when you were in the van together. And he seemed sad and you understood why. Losing your father like that hurts. You would know. Your father died in an explosion when you were little. You talk to him and you got a small smile from him, even after Sams cat comment.

Hawkeye - Clint Barton-

You were running in the park with your son. Your partner had just left you two so now it was just the two of you. You had just got to the park playground when your son runs off on you and plays with another kid. You got to talk to their father while your sons got closer. You found that your boys really liked hanging out and you had a great time with the father. His name was Clint and like you, he was a single but unlike you, his wife had passed away in a car crash leaving him with three kids. Talking about both your issues help and when it was time to part ways you both hoped you would see each other again. For your boy's sake and your own.

Luke Cage-

You go to a lot of bars. Many of your clients prefer to go to bars as they feel safe and are in public but you? You don't really care. You are a professional killer and people would hire you to kill someone or a group of people. You did a good job too. You never got caught and when you did, they never got you for the murder. But at this bar, you get distracted by the bartender so you stayed after your meeting with your latest client. He was really nice to you and even after closing hours he didn't try to rush you out the door. When you both saw the time you realised that you had missed your target and you needed to quickly get it over with. Without a goodbye, you rushed out the door and went to kill your next target.

Scarlet Witch - Wanda Maximoff-

You were part of one of Hydra's experiments and met her when she had to show off her powers. You were scared of her at first but after getting to know her a bit you find her really nice and pretty. You had the power of the Phoenix and unlike Scarlet and her brother, you never used your power. You hated it and you didn't want her scared of you. She was too nice and you didn't need another person to be scared of you.

War Machine - James "Rhodey" Rhodes-

You were there the day Tony went to court as you wanted to support your twin and surprise him as you hadn't seen him in a few years. Not only do you get to see Tony you also get to meet his friend James. You always told Tony you would never fall for his friends but this one was too good not to. You also said never like an army man but he just looked too good in his uniform. You both talked after the court but it was short-lived Tony dragged you away.

Captain Marvel - Carol Danvers-

You hated people. Never had more than one friend because they were the only person that understood why you didn't want to make new friends. You didn't stop them from making them either. One day at work through you met someone. You didn't mean for it to happen but it did and you like the new feeling you have when you talk to her. You felt warm and happy. You didn't want the feeling to stop so you talked with her for as long as you could. When you did stop talking instead of feeling sad you felt hopeful. You felt that you would meet again and you would get to feel that all over again.

Quicksilver - Pietro Maximoff-

Being Hawkeye's daughter, you were also part of the Avengers. You were like your dad and could shoot arrows and was very good at hand to hand combat. Almost as good as Nat. You were infiltrating a Hydra base when you fell to the ground and a guy was there smiling. You look around for your dad to him on the ground as well. You raise your bow towards the guy to find him gone. You stand and scan the area, with bow raised, but he was long gone. Next thing you knew your dad told the team and then you were getting shot at once more.

Vision-

You had just attacked Ultron and had found this 'guy'. You didn't think it was going to end well when you guys woke him up but what were you going to do, leave him here. Much like Wonda, you thought he was going to do something or try to end the world. You didn't trust him for the whole day. How could something with so much evil want to save the world? It made no sense. You made sure that he could do anything without your knowing about it. He was nice but nice people on the outside aren't always good on the inside.

Black Widow - Natasha Romanoff-

It was hard being a Stark. Always being in the spotlight and now, your brother came out as Iron Man. You wish he never did it but you can't go back in time. At least the women looking after Tony is hot. Eye candy never hurt anyone. She didn't flirt with Tony when he flirted with her but she did flirt but back you. Problem was Tony saw it too. He made a bet with you that he could get her to agree to a date before you could. You made a bad decision and excepted. You just hopped if you one she would find out about it.

Falcon - Sam Wilson-

Being related to Captain America was hard during the war but it was even harder now. Your Steve's little sister and much like Bucky you were taken by Hydra the day after Steve went missing and was pronounced dead. Bucky did get you out of there, you still needed to see your brother. And Bucky could take you to him. He had been living with him for some time and had been looking for you for some time. Steve didn't know you were still alive so walking in was really bad. You were attacked by Iron man and Bucky couldn't help as the rest of the team held him back. Steve had walked into the room and had realised who you were. He started crying when he held you in his arms. You had seen Sam over his shoulder. You smiled at him and he smiled back.

Jessica Jones-

You needed to find your brother. He had been missing for 4 months and it wasn't like him to do this. He was more of the quiet type that didn't go out very often. You needed to find him and one of your friends suggested going to Jessica Jones. Trusting your friend, you go to her office/apartment to find her. When you get there, you are met with a very rude person who you didn't think was Jessica but you were wrong. It was and after 20 mins she finally said she would do it. You were so angry and pissed that you said thank you, left the information she needed and left in a hurry.

Drax the Destroyer-

You were taken to prison after your brother Peter got in a fight with people. You were used to this but you still didn't like it. You got to meet new people though. Even if the new people wanted to kill your new 'friend.' That 'friend' being Gamora. You didn't want to help her but your idiot of a brother decided that he needed her alive. Bad idea as now you had to work with one of the worst people in the galaxy. At least he was nice towards you. The others not so much.

Ant-man - Scott Lang-

You had to look after someone who was under house arrest. You didn't know this person. All you knew was he went by the name Ant-man. You had to look after him for the day as he was known for slipping away from the police. When you get there however you find his daughter instead of him. She was really nice and she tried to keep you from her father's bedroom. You knew he wasn't in the house but you didn't want to give Scott more trouble so when he finally did you just smiled at him and told him you had to spend the rest of the day, then he could go his own way. It was a fun day for you.

Star-Lord - Peter Quill-

You were in prison for something your sister did. She didn't mean to get you caught but she didn't help you get out either so when you hear she's here you take the chance to have a talk with her. Yeah, that ended well. Everyone in the place wanted to kill her and she had a group of men looking after her. When you finally did get to talk to her you were saving her from an attack. Luckily you two didn't fight but the human guy attacked you thinking you wanted to hurt your sister. You won however as you're a better fighter. You ended up on top of him and he just smiled up at you. He was like every man.

James "Rhodey" Rhodes x Reader

Prompt: “My boss came into work wearing a T-Rex costume, and the day just got worse from there.”

“My boss came into work wearing a T-Rex costume, and the day just got worse from there.”

“No,” the man next to you at the bar, tall, dark, handsome and not a stranger anymore, shakes his head with a laugh, “No. You’re lying. That can only be a lie.”

“It isn’t, I promise,” you hold up your hands as if that gesture was the only thing needed to prove your innocence.

He’s still laughing and you revel in the sound of it, deep, rich and hearty.

How could this happen anyway?

About an hour ago you had stepped into this bar, planning to meet a friend you haven’t seen in ages, adamant on enjoying one rare evening for yourself after a terrible day at work.

Your friend had not appeared. By the time her message reached you, she had already been half an hour late. Should you stay, open for what might happen if you gave life the chance or should you leave and enjoy the rest of your free night with a good movie and some fastfood at home?

You were about to drink up and leave, your bed calling your name in a way that made you feel older than you really were, when that good looking guy from across the bar had taken his drink and walked over to you.

“You look like good company,” he said, stopping a few steps away from you, “Do you mind a chat?”

“Depends,” you had answered. Despite the fact that he was good looking you wouldn’t just give up bed and fastfood for anyone. “Why did you come to this bar anyway?”

He smiled, leaning his shoulder against the bar. With you sitting and him standing you were just a little bit taller than him, but he did not seem intimidated by it.

“Actually my friend wanted to meet me here. It’s one of our favorites spots to get a drink after work.”

“And he has stood you up?”

The stranger sighed, taking a sip from his drink.

“What can I say. He’s a workaholic. Messaged me that he had an idea he needed to work on and he would come later but I know him a bit too well to believe that.”

You smiled and stretched out your hand.

“Well, I suffer from the same fate. I’m Y/N.”

“James Rhodes, my friends call me Rhodey,” he took your hand in his and smiled, “Pleasure to meet you.”

“Okay, your turn.”

You smiled and took a sip of your drink. Time had passed way too quickly. You had drank, you had eaten and now you were just passing the time between drinks with silly get-to-know-me games. Currently it was two truths, one lie and he was very good at calling you out.

“Well, I like to sing while showering, I’d love to have a dog one day and,” he smiled, looking at you, “I’d really like to take you out again.”

You only realize you’d taken his hand when he curls his fingers around yours.

“Looks like all three of them are true,” you tell him slowly, smiling, rubbing your thumb across the back of his hand.

Things like this normally don’t happen to you.

A week later…

“Y/N, can you please take that upstairs?”

You look up from the document you had been working on, smiling at Loretta, the longest serving office worker at Stark Company.

“Sure thing. Is he in the office?”

“I don’t think so,” Pepper rolls her eyes with a smile that tells you that she’s not the least bit annoyed by her bosses behaviour.

“Should I look for him?”

“If you have the time. Oh, that boyfriend of yours…”

You send her a surprised look. “I don’t have a boyfriend,” you try to argue and she laughs.

“I apologize if I was reading you wrong, but you’ve been different this past week.”

“Oh? Well, there is someone, but we’re not in the boyfriend girlfriend stage.”

Loretta smiles friendly. “Well, I’ll voice my invitation to bring him to our business party very quietly then.”

You snort. “I will keep it in mind, now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go and hunt down my boss.”

She laughs at that and lets you leave.

Somehow, looking for Tony Stark has become the better part of your job in the last months.

According to Loretta, it means that you are trustworthy enough to let you walk up and down the tower.

It’s not that you don’t believe Loretta, or that you aren’t thankful for being trusted, but you could do with a task that involves less walking up and down stairs in pretty but uncomfortable high heels.

You could wear flats to work, but those shoes just look too good on you not to wear them.

Five steps on your way up the stairs your phone bleeps with an incoming message.

You pull it out of your blazer’s pocket, smiling involuntarily when you see that it’s from Rhodey.

“Saturday?” He asks.

The next message arrives while you’re still thinking about an answer.

“Does your crazy T-Rex boss allow you a free weekend?”

“I hope he does,” you write back, “But you never know if he gets hungry.”

You find Tony in the lab.

“Just put it somewhere,” he says when he sees the documents in your hands.

“I’m afraid I can’t do that,” you tell him, “It’s your speech for the MIT graduates and if I put it somewhere you won’t even look at it.”

He eyes you and for a moment you’re not sure if you have gone to far, but then he grins.

“Fine, I’ll look over it.”

“Oh, and…” You stop to clear your throat, regretting your decision to speak up already.

“And what?”

“Can I have saturday off? I have a date.”

“A date? Do I know the guy?”

“You know half the world,” you tell him, “So it’s quite possible.”

“Name?”

“No name,” you tell him and he pulls a face at that. “Tall, dark and handsome.”

“Damn, that could be everyone, including me.”

You laugh at that. “You might be tall and handsome, but you’re definitely not dark.”

“You should see me during summer,” he jokes and you laugh even more.

“Still not dark,” you tell him and he rolls his eyes.

“Fine. You get saturday off. You know what, you can have this evening off too, I’ll be here working on my speech anyway.”

“Are you sure?” You don’t want to risk your chance of a free evening, but you don’t want to jump on the offer in case he’s making a joke.

“Absolutely sure, but you should better leave before I realize that I could use your help with the speech.”

“And I’m gone.”

- “I know we promised that we wouldn’t talk about our jobs,” Rhodey says when you hand him a glass of wine, “But I still have to ask you. How was your day?”

You smile, something you seem to be doing almost nonstop when you’re around him.

“Pretty good,” you answer, “And yours?”

“Aah,” he takes a sip, “And we’re diving into the work talk. It was survivable…”

Almost lost him

Pairing: James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes x Stark!reader 

Synopsis: Tony’s little sister had always had feelings for one James R. Rhodes. She’s kept it a secret for years, but will everything come out after he is injured during the fight against Cap?

word count: 2.4k+

Warnings: Brief cannon violence. Angst. Mentions paralysis. Swearing. Age gap. Also I have a specific age for the character mentioned. 

A/N: This has been sitting in my WIP’s for over a year because I loved it so much and I didn’t want to end it poorly lmao. I know no ones gonna read it since he isn’t a popular character, but oh well. I love this fic and I love Rhodey so that’s all that matters. 

Tony and (Y/N) Stark have saved the world from terrorists once again.

“Can you believe this title?” you laugh showing Rhodey the article on your phone. 

“I was there too,” he says gruffly. 

“You just aren’t special enough,” you tease, sticking your tongue out like you’re five and not thirty-six. 

“Not everyone’s lucky enough to be a Stark,” Tony, your annoying but lovable older brother, enters the compound’s kitchen.

Tony took you under his wing and raised you since your parents died. It was a lot for a twenty-one year old to handle, no one he knew had to take care of an eleven year old. Especially one with newly discovered powers. They weren’t much, but when emotions would get overwhelming you would have white colored beams come from your hands. This later helped Tony come up with the idea for the repulsors on his Iron Man suit, which you helped him build.

As the years passed, you got a better hold on your new found powers. The more you and Tony dug into your parents past, you started to think that your dad had either given you something when you were a baby or your mom was given something while pregnant to make you like this. Your Dad always called you special, but you never thought you were this special.

“Any progress with Steve?” you ask hopefully. You know how much Tony values his friendship with Cap, he just won’t admit it. Especially because he’s hurt. 

“No,” he grunts, but tries to brush it off like he doesn’t care. You and Rhodey give each other unamused looks, clearly not believing the bullshit Tony is trying to feed you.

“I think you should try to reach out to him again, you clearly miss him Tony,” you frown at the dark haired man in front of you.

“I agree with (Y/N/N),” Rhodey speaks up from behind you. He’s closer than you remember, and you shiver as you feel the little licks of his breath on your neck as he speaks. 

“You love birds can shut up now,” Tony rolls his eyes, he leaves the kitchen without anything. 

Heat immediately rushes to your face and you can’t look Rhodey in the eye as you stutter out an apology for Tony’s actions. You quickly leave the kitchen before he can respond, wanting to put distance between your blushing self and the man you had been in love with for years.

You had hoped that the conversation in the kitchen would have convinced Tony to reach out and make amends with Steve and half of the Avengers. But things only continued to escalate, where it seemed a battle between friends was unavoidable. So that's how you ended up in Germany, with your newest recruit Spider-Man, facing off against the people you cared most about in this world.

“Rhodey!” you scream as you watch him plummet to the Earth. Time seems to slow to a near standstill and all you can do is watch, too far away from him to be able to help somehow. Your knees buckle and you hit the ground at the same time his body does. There's a scream that’s so loud it rattles the windows of the airport hanger, a scream you weren’t even aware left your own lips. 

Vision tries to approach you, but you let out a sound that's between a sob and a scream as he gets closer. You’re angry, and scared, you can feel a rush of something in your veins. You ball your hands in fists, bringing them to your chest as you curl into yourself. 

The sound of metal crunching together pulls you from your rocking back and forth on your knees. You see a white glow, one that you're extremely familiar with, dissipating from around two shipping containers, now crushed together where vision was hovering. If he had stayed solid, he would have been crushed. You’re shaking even more as you stare down at your hands, you had never been able to move objects before. You could have hurt somebody. You can’t dwell on it too long because Peter runs to your side, telling you that Rhodey had a heartbeat and help was on the way. 

It had felt like hours since Tony, Peter, and you had landed back down in the states. Dr. Cho was working with a spine specialist and a neurosurgeon to figure out the extent of the damage. After a while, they had updated you three, telling you that Rhodey broke his spine and they were taking him into surgery. Tony had left to go fiddle with one of his suits, his coping mechanism. He left the kid with you because he didn’t want you alone. 

“How did you two meet?” Peter breaks the silence.

“Hmm?” you look away from the painting in front of you for the first time since you sat in the waiting room chair, to look at the boy. 

“Mr. Rhodes, how did you two meet?” he clarifies. 

“That’s a long story,” your eyes glaze over as memories start to come flooding back.

“I have time,” Peter gives you a small smile, you can really see what Tony see’s in the kid. The kindness that his Aunt May has taught him is abundantly clear, you know he’s only asking for your benefit.

“He met Tony when they went to MIT together, he somehow found a way to put up with my brother's antics. I didn’t meet him until two years after Tony graduated, so I was eleven,” you let out a little laugh as you realize just how long the older man has been in your life, and in your heart. “He came to my parents funeral for support for Tony, but he became my support system. Everyone seemed to ignore me and go straight for the golden boy, but Tony became too overwhelmed quickly. He introduced me to Rhodey who was the first one, besides Tony of course, to ask me how I was. He ended up spending the entire wake and funeral with me, giving me support and effectively distracting me from my pain.”

You look over at the younger boy, who seems to be staring at you with fascination. He sees the pain on your face when you stop talking, reaching over he grabs your hand loosely. Testing the waters to see if you’ll pull away from affection like Tony has with him. You give him a thankful smile and hold his hand before continuing your story.

“He joined the military not long after that. At first I would send him care packages and letters so he didn’t feel alone when he was deployed. One day when I was writing a letter one of Tony’s flings came into the kitchen and called me a pathetic child because I was crushing on Tony’s friend after I explained what I was doing. He never got that letter, or any after that. We didn’t really talk much after that, if he came to visit Tony I’d be pleasant before locking myself in my room. I guess I was embarrassed over my school girl crush. Years passed, lots of years, before Tony went missing, James was the one that told me what happened. And in those following months he would rarely leave my side, he wanted to make sure I was okay. We were finally both adults, and we gained a real friendship.” 

“That sounds like more than a friendship,” Peter sends you an innocent look. You furrow your eyebrows at him in response, Rhodey definitely doesn’t like you back. “I’m just saying, if Liz was like that with me I would be ecstatic that she liked me back.”

“He sees me as a little sister, Peter,” your heart breaking a little more knowing that you’ll never be able to be with the man you’ve loved for years. Before Peter can refute you, Rhodey’s Neurosurgeon walks into the waiting room- some guy named Dr. Strange. 

“How is he?” you jump out of your seat, Peter quickly following suit, his hand falling from yours at the movement. 

“He’s out of surgery Miss. Stark,” his voice coming out as cocky and full of himself, like he’s overly proud that he did this surgery. “But the recovery will be the difficult part.”

“What happened? What’s still wrong? And when can I see him?” you’re shooting out questions faster than the surgeon can answer.

“I’m not at liberty to discuss that with you Miss. Stark, and you can’t see him until he’s out of the ICU,” the smug look is still on the surgeon's face, making you grow angrier with each word that leaves his mouth. 

“Excuse me?” Peter looks between you and the surgeon with wide curious eyes. 

“You aren’t family,” he states matter-of-factly. “Therefore I can’t tell you and you can’t see him.”

Your eye twitches in anger as your body starts to warm, your powers start to react to the strong emotion. You take a deep calming breath, keeping you from accidentally lashing out at the surgeon. 

“I suggest you rethink that answer,” you say deathly calm, Peter stares at you in awe as you talk back to the man. “And consider who paid for all of the new state-of-the-art Stark technology and equipment you have in this hospital. Things I’m sure that you used in that surgery, that I donated to this hospital through the outreach program that I created. Technology created by both me and my brother.”

“Is there a problem here?” a man’s voice comes from behind you, he sounds irritated that someone’s making a scene. You turn around to face the man, who is wearing a badge that says medical director on it. Perfect. His eyes widen as soon as he recognizes who you are. 

“Actually there is,” you frown. “My colleague, my friend. My favorite person after my brother really, he just had a pretty big surgery, but your surgeon here won’t tell me any details or let me go see him. So yes, we have a huge problem.”

“I’m so sorry Miss. Stark,” he exclaims. “Why don’t we go update you in private.” 

“Did I sound like a bitch?” you frown, whispering to Peter as the two of you follow the MD and the surgeon. He nods a little with a smirk adorning his face. 

“But it was awesome!” you grin at the young boy, remembering the excitement you felt when you saw Tony use his name to get what he wanted for the first time. 

“He’s paralyzed,” the surgeon throws the statement around like it isn’t a big deal as soon as the four of you enter a separate room. “From the waist down. There was nothing we could do.”

Your heart and your lungs seem to stop working at the same time. Peter discreetly uses his super strength to catch you as your legs give out at the surgeon's words. Tears start to pour down your face as you realize all of the things Rhodey will never be able to again. Like never being able to help defend his country again, or chase after you when you steal the last cookie that he wanted. 

You can’t help but feel guilty. If he had never met you and Tony he would be fine. He would still be able to do what he loves. He never would have been put in that situation. He’ll never be able to walk again. He won’t have the opportunity to dance at his wedding or chase his children around if he decided to have either of those. 

“I know it’s a lot Miss. Stark,” the MD’s voice is muffled. “But there was nothing we could have done-”

“When can I see him?” you cut the doctor off. 

“I could take you to him now,” he glares at the surgeon. “He won’t wake for at least a few more hours.”

“Peter, go call Tony and tell him the update,” you look at the young boy, he gives your hand a reassuring squeeze before heading back to the waiting room. 

The surgeon and the MD both ramble on about Rhodey’s condition but their voices sound muffled- like you’re underwater. You feel like you're suffocating in all the pain and grief you feel for the love of your life. He’s lying on the bed, oxygen tubing up his nose, at least ten wires connected to him, and the disgusting beep of his heart monitor reminds you how lucky you are that he’s still here with you. 

The two men quickly leave you with Rhodey, but not before the MD promises that he’ll be under constant supervision and he’ll receive the best treatments they offer. Not that you're shocked to hear that with the scene you cause in the waiting room. You grab Rhodey’s hand, careful to avoid yanking the IV in it, pulling his hand up to your mouth to give it a feather light kiss. Tears slip down your cheeks as you stare at his still body, you were so close to losing him today. 

The tears have stopped by the time Tony shows up close to an hour later, he had dropped Peter off at home before coming up to the hospital room. Your older brother looks as distressed as you feel, although he seems to be tryin to hide it more than you are. 

“How is he?” his voice is quieter than you imagined, like he’s afraid any louder will make you crumble. 

“Stable,” your voice is monotonous, and you refuse to tear your eye’s from Rhodey’s face as you respond to Tony. “About as good as he could be I guess.”

“How are you?” he cuts you off as you go to respond that you're fine. “And don’t bullshit me (Y/N/N), you’ve been in love with him since you were eleven. How are you feeling?”

You don’t respond, not with words at least. Instead you do crumble, letting out a quiet sob as you grip Tony’s hand that he was about to place on your shoulder. Tony runs his free hand through your hair and down your back, trying to soothe you like he used to when you would have nightmares after your parents deaths. 

“We almost lost him today Tony, I almost lost him-” another sob racks through your body. “And now he’s paralyzed. He can never walk again, can never defend his Country again. And for what? A disagreement between you and Steve? We could have lost him Tony for something so fucking stupid.”

Before Tony can respond, a muffled voice breaks through the tension in the room. The voice is gravely, but one you love so dearly, it’s Rhodey’s. “(Y/N)?”

There’s a heaviness in the air, and it’s damn near suffocating. After Tony’s funeral, everyone lingered, staying for a little while longer to give their condolences, to reminisce on the billionaire’s life and how he impacted theirs. A rather painful task, especially for you. Tony had been a major part of your life, becoming something close to a surrogate father to you. There’d been a lower-scale alien attack, leaving you severely injured and orphaned. Tony somehow crossed your path, and you ended up under his tutelage. You wouldn’t call what you had with him a job or an internship, because he cared for you but also gave you the freedom to learn what he does. Everything you know is because of Tony. That’s why his death hit you so hard, and that’s why hearing everyone reminisce made you upset.

“He was a good man, he was taken too soon.”

Those words, coming from America’s Golden Boy™ himself, sent you teetering off the edge. Before you could stop yourself, you had already slammed your hand on the table you sat at and jolted out of your seat, catching everyone’s attention as you glared at Steve with tear-filled eyes.

“How dare you,” you exclaim, your voice cracking and thick with emotion. “You have no right talking about him. You have no right being here.”

“Y/N...,” Rhodey started, his voice low and hesitant, trying — hoping — to calm you down. You only shook your head, sending an equally heated glare his way. The glare made Rhodey hesitate, making the worried glint in his eyes intensify.

“You never cared about him, Captain,” you spat, your gaze snapping back to Steve’s. You felt the tears beginning to fall, and you had to take in a breath before continuing. “None of you cared about him,” you exclaim. “Not like I did. Not like Pepper, or Happy, or Rhodey, Peter or even Morgan did! You all needed him when it was convenient, and now you’re acting like he meant something to you.”

You wipe your face, trying — and failing — to dry it from the seemingly endless stream of tears. “And you,” you snap, pointing at Steve. “You were always fighting him, disagreeing with him. You don’t get to act like Tony’s your pal when nothing he did was ever good enough for you.”

Without another word, and without giving anyone the satisfaction of responding, you storm out of the room.

Mother Nature must really hate you. You can’t move, your cramps are restricting you from functioning like a normal human being. The only time you got up today was to go to the bathroom to make sure you didn’t ruin your clothes and the sheets. You’ve been curled up in a ball for the past many hours, and even snapped at your significant other earlier. You feel bad deep down inside, but the pain you’re feeling overrides your remorse right now. You’re in the middle of your self loathing and hating being a female when in walks…

…Rhodey.

He walks slowly and quietly, making his way over to your bathroom. “Why the fuck are you walking like I’m a feral animal that will literally leap up and maul you to death if you make a sudden movement you fucking weird ass?” you say, louder than intended. He freezes, looking at you. “Did you not hear what you just said? How you just said it?”

“I did. Your point?”

“I just proved my-”

“What are you doing, James?” you look at him, your expression completely unamused. He’s actually quite scared and begins rethinking the idea he had. But he clears his throat and straightens his back. “I was just going to run you a bath so you can relax a little. I heard heat helps with the… girl pains?” You stare at him, raising your eyebrows. “They’re called cramps,” you say, and he smiles apologetically. “I heard heat helps with the cramps,” he repeats, and to his surprise, you smile. “You’re the sweetest, you know that?” He gapes at you, amazed at how your mood went from bloodthirsty to loving that quickly. “I try my hardest?” he replies, obviously very confused. “Let me know when everything’s ready, okay?” You sound very excited and happy and he smiles at you, “Of course.”

…Pietro.

Well, it’s more like you see a flash of blue, then have a weighted blanket covering you, then nothing. About two minutes pass before you see the flash again, and a heating pad is next to you on your bed. Then after another two minutes, some chocolate and your favorite food gets plopped down on your nightstand. You appreciate everything your dear loving boyfriend is doing, but goddamnit. Can he stay still? You just want him to hug you and stop. Moving. For. Once.

Before you know it, he’s sprinting in the room again, and you announce his name loudly, and it is quite possibly the fastest you ever said anything in your life. Much to your surprise and happiness he stops dead in his tracks. You can’t help but laugh at the expression on his face and the four bottles of water with a container of Ibuprofen in his hands. “Why are you running around like that?”

“Well, uh… you see…” he begins, slowly setting the things in his hands down next to the food he brought. “I know you are on your period right now and having a sister I know what that can entail,” he starts, and you stare at him with an amused expression. “Uh-huh…”

“And, well, I know what helps Wanda, but I do not know what helps you. So… I asked Wanda what I should do and now I am… doing all of what she suggested along with a google search. But I did not own all of the things I wanted to get for you, so I have been running back and forth from the store this whole time. Also, you are scary when you are mad. Especially when you are mad at me,” he finishes, and you burst into laughter. “Pietro, that’s adorable. Also, I was only mad at you because you gave me a reason to be mad at you. So, don’t give me another reason,” you say, and he smiles. His smile, however, turns quickly to a scared expression as he hears you say, “Now if you don’t get into this bed and cuddle with me and don’t leave, then I’ll be pissed!”

He has your favorite cookies baking in the oven. What is he supposed to do now?

…Stephen.

“I brought you some more Ibuprofen,” he says, walking over and setting it down next to you. “I hope it helps.” You glare at the back of his head as he leaves the room again. Dealing with this with medicine and heating pads works, yes, but you’d much rather have the warmth radiating off of Stephen’s body to make you feel better. Sadly, it doesn’t look like that’s about to happen.

He may be book smart as all hell, but boy is he dumb when it comes to dealing with literally anything else. He of course tries, but he is so clueless sometimes. This is one of those times. He knows that certain over the counter medicines will lessen your cramps, and that typically applying heat also helps with the pain that accompanies one of your organs genuinely attempting suicide inside of your body, but he really doesn’t know what to do to actually comfort you. He of course thought of laying down with you, holding you until you felt better. However, that wouldn’t be very efficient for him. He needs to make sure the universe doesn’t implode, after all. He can tell, though, that all you want is for him to be around because of the way you’ve been snapping at him all day. Luckily, he thought of another plan that he hoped would work.

You sigh into your pillow, the pain nowhere near stopping when suddenly you feel quite the cozy sensation. You turn your head, curious as to what just wrapped around your body, when you get a big whiff of your boyfriend. You giggle, realizing that the Cloak of Levitation has just wrapped you up in a little burrito. “Cloak, what are you doing?” you say, amused. That’s when a note appears next to you, and you pick it up. “Dear (Y/N), I really do wish I could keep you company right now and make you feel better, but I have quite the workload right now. Instead, I sent Cloak. I hope that’s okay for now, if I get any free time I’ll be there. I love you, Stephen.”

You smile to yourself. As much as you wanted to be mad at him, you couldn’t be. He was really busy after all, and the fact that he did think about how you felt was enough for you to know that he wasn’t as stupid as he seemed. Oh, and he did get some free time, but he didn’t want to interrupt yours and Cloak’s little nap. He just took a lot of pictures.

…Scott.

“I was thinking, maybe I can shrink up and go inside of you and see just how bad this uterus is acting and then give it a stern talking to,” he says, trying to lighten your mood by joking around. You think. He’s not serious right? “You’re not serious, right?” you ask, just to be positive that he wasn’t being a dumbass this time. “Oh no, your brain must be suffering from blood loss. Your humor is fading! Whatever shall I do?! Oh, what a cruel, cruel world,” he drops down to his knees, beginning to fake cry which causes you to giggle at him. “Calm down, Scott, my humor isn’t going anywhere. I just honestly never know when you’re being serious,” you tell him, and he gives you a grin. “Well, I can’t blame you there. I do have something that will cheer you up though.”

You give him a questioning look when all of a sudden Cassie runs into the room, hopping up next to you in bed. You smile as she snuggles into your side, giggling the whole time. “Hey there sweetie,” you say as Scot takes a seat on the bed next to Cassie, sandwiching her in between you two. “She’s been asking for hours to watch a movie, I kinda figured it would be better if all three of us watched it instead of just me and her.”

“You’re absolutely right,” you say and hear Cassie shout a “yeah” in agreement. You and Scott chuckle at her reaction before he picks up the remote to the TV in your room, scrolling through Disney+ to find the right movie.

…Peter.

Well it’s more like he came through your window. “Karen said that I should get you these things,” he starts saying as soon as he touches down in your room. You glance over to his right arm full of medicine, a heating pad, lots of chocolate, and various feminine hygiene products. “I didn’t know which… things… you used so I bought all of the ones that I could carry, I hope that’s okay. Oh, and uh… I brought a lot of chocolate! I don’t really know why Karen said it might help, do you know why it helps? I mean, I obviously wasn’t like, ’No Karen, I don’t see how chocolate could help anyone in this situation,’ because I mean I don’t really know anything when it comes to this stuff but Karen’s a computer, so obviously she would know. Oh yeah, I brought a heating pad! Heat helps right? Or is this one of those things hear heat helps sometimes but the cold helps other times, oh crap, should I have gotten Icy Hot instead? I was right there next to it when I got all this other medicine… God I’m so stup-”

“Peter!” you make him stop rambling and one of the medicine bottles he’s holding falls out of his grip, and when he tries to save it, the rest fall. You laugh at his floundering to pick everything he just dropped back up. He rips off his mask and sighs. “I was just trying to help, you know. A now it’s all on the ground and-“

“Pete, just because you dropped it doesn’t mean it’s all useless.”

“I know, I know, I was just supposed to come in here all heroic and be like, ‘I’ve brought you what you need to feel better!’ and now it’s just…. it’s on the floor,” he says, and the disappointment in his voice is only the more endearing. “C’mere, Pete,” you say, opening. your arms so he can come hug you. “I’m all sweaty, (Y/N/N),” he mumbles, and you roll your eyes. “I need to take a shower anyways Peter, right now I just want cuddles,” you say, and lay on the puppy dog eyes. Those make him ridiculously weak to you. He just grins and jumps into bed next to you. You used the things he got you, but only after Peter himself made you feel exponentially better.

…Miles.

“Knock knock,” he says, walking into your room holding a stack of comic books. “Miles, why do you have so many comics?” you ask, turning to look at him. “Well, I know you have all the things you need to feel better with this whole… bleeding… thing?”

“This is true, I am prepared.”

“I know, but I figured the one thing you don’t have that you’d want is some good ‘ol Mile Morales loving. I also know that you kinda like the sound of my voice, even when you yell at me, so I decided I’d bring these comics and read them out loud. Oh, we can also play a little game where I describe the picture to you and you can tell me if it’s any good or not, I thought that might, y’know, take your mind off the pain,” he says, walking over to you and plopping down on the bed. “Miles I don’t think this bed is big enough for the two of us,” you say, but before you can even attempt to tell him to use your computer chair, he picks you up and moves you so you’re lying on top of him in a very comfortable position. The warmth radiating off of his body also makes you feel a little bit better. “Oh, okay, well this works perfectly,” you mumble nuzzling your face in his chest. You can feel the vibrations through his body as he laughs at you.

“Sorry for snapping at you earlier,” you say, and he just smiles. “It’s okay, I know how unbearable I can be at times,” he jokes, and you grin. “Now, how about I start with… well uh… I have a lot so…” he trails off, holding up all the comics he brought so you can see them. “which one of these is your favorite…?”

…Gwen.

“Do you wanna bang on my drums? Banging on my drums helps me,” she says, leaning against your door frame. You roll your eyes and throw a pillow at her to which she catches in one hand and tosses back. “I think you should bang on my drums,” she says again, and you sigh. “Gwen, baby, even if I wanted to do that, I can’t move. My uterus is really trying to end itself right now, and I swear if it doesn’t succeed, I will end its life for it by ending my own.”

“I thought I was supposed to be the edgy one in this relationship. Are you coming for my brand right now?” she asks, walking over to you. You narrow your eyes at her, causing her to grin and sit at the foot of your bed. “Okay, well, how about this. The newest season of that true crime show came out today…”

“No fucking way, I thought it was supposed to come out Friday?”

“It was, but then they said, ‘fuck it, let’s release it early.’ And I got all of my homework done. So, I’m totally free to sit back, rub your stomach, and get my fill of murderers and how corrupt bad police officers are. What do you say?” she gives you a sincere smile, which causes one to break out across your face as well. “Come here, woman.”

…T’Challa.

“Can I just say I have fought many a warrior, but you are the most ferocious person I have ever met,” he says, and you raise an eyebrow at him. “Is this because you were being annoying earlier and I let you know that you were being annoying earlier?” you snap again, and he points at you. “There it was. Terrifying.” You roll your eyes and turn away from him. The truth is he wasn’t doing anything annoying at all. You just really wanted him to stay with you for an hour or two and make you feel better with his presence, but he had some “Kingly duties” he had to attend to, so you’ve been alone. Dying.

“I have finished what I had to do today, you know,” he says, and you roll back over to face him again. “Oh really?” He chuckles at your immediate response and nods, walking into your shared room. “Yes, it seems I am completely free for the rest of the day. I have no idea what to do, honestly. I guess I’ll just-”

“Just stay here in bed with me? Yeah, damn right you will. Get over here yOuR hIgHnEsS,” you say, quite obviously laying the sarcasm on your highness to which he smiles at. The rest of the day was spent with the two of you just talking and you eventually falling asleep in his arms as he told you stories about when he was younger.

…Shuri.

“Even though you can be a bitch on your period I invented a new kind of heating pad for you because you are a spoiled brat, you know that right?” she says, walking over to you and dropping down the heating pad next to you. You give her a cheesy smile before thanking her and picking up this new heating pad. “The way it works is that it adjusts to your cramp pain. I’ve put a censor in it that can detect how severe the cramps are and then it administers heat accordingly. Also, you don’t have to worry about it catching on fire or anything, if it begins overheating it automatically turns off.”

“How did I end up with the best and brightest girlfriend of all time?” you ask, placing the pad on your stomach and letting your girlfriend’s technology take it from there. “Because she took pity on you,” she responds, and you laugh. She rolls her eyes, but a smile appears on her face none-the-less and she begins walking out of the room again. “Excuse me, but where do you think you are going?” you ask her and she turns to you, raising her eyebrows. “I am going to get us some ice cream so we can relax for a little bit. Is this a problem, princess?”

“Hey now, you’re the princess, I’m just your girlfriend. And no, carry on. Me and your dope ass heating pad will be waiting for you when you get back.”

“Mhm,” she says, and walks out of the room mumbling something about how you’re too spoiled, when in reality, you’re just the luckiest person in the world.

You had been Tony’s assistant ever since Pepper was promoted to CEO of Stark industries. It was a job that didn’t only required you to work with Tony but also with his best friend Colonel James Rhodes. It was hard work to keep Tony’s agenda organized, the gossip in the press to the bare minimum and to get him everywhere he needed to be in time. Like right now he was again running late for a board meeting. “Tony I know this is not your top priority but this board meeting is really important and you have to get there in time.” You started rattling as you pushed open the door to his workspace “Also you need to make a decision about whether you are going to speech at MIT, Caltech or both.” “Why don’t you make a decision for me, you have proved to make excellent decisions.” He grinned at you. You were about to hit him back with a sarcastic comment when you noticed Rhodey was also standing in the room. Just like that your mind went blank and you completely forgot what you wanted to so say. “Morning y/n.” He greeted you. It took a moment of idiotic grinning for you to get your act back together “Morning Colonel Rhodes, I didn’t know you would be here as well.” “Like I said before you can call me Rhodey.” He urged “And Pepper told me about the board meeting. So I thought I’d help you out a bit and get him ready for you.” Pointing at tony who was already in his suit. Something you thought you still had to force him into. “Oh thank god, that saves a lot off time. Thanks.” You grabbed Tony’s arm and started dragging him to the door to get him into a car “Now you might actually be in time for this, and I won’t get judged for it.” “I wouldn’t let them judge you.” “You don’t really have a say in that. Are you coming as well Rhodey or can we drop you somewhere off on our way there?” Rhodey had been walking a bit behind the two of you, he was still fascinated about how easily you had earned Tony’s trust and everyone around you. There was something about you people couldn’t just hate and he was one off them, although he was potentially even more affected by it then the others. Tony had notice right away when you and Rhodey first met.Rhodey didn’t want to hear it at first, but lately he found himself just making up excuse after excuse to spend more time with you. “Rhodey?” Your voice pulled him back to reality. “Sorry what did you say?” “I asked if we could drop you off somewhere on the way or if you want to come with us?” You grinned “Yeah I will come with you.” The driver was already waiting with the car and before you knew it you the three of you were on your way to the meeting. “So Tony what’s it going be?” “A cheeseburger, maybe a milkshake.” “I was talking about the speeches, do you want to do MIT, Caltech or do think you can find the time to do both?” You pulled a tablet out of your bag to pull up his agenda. “Why can’t you make a decision?” “Do you know how many speech requests you get?” you pulled up an eyebrow “Believe me I have made a couple big decisions already by cutting it down to two.” “What would he do without you.” Rhodey sighed “I’m afraid he would be your problem then.” “You know what.” Tony interrupted your conversation with Rhodey, he saw the way the both of you looked at each other and he knew just what to do about it.”I will do both of the speeches, but only if you come to my party tonight.” “I don’t know about that.” You tried. As you started discussing with Tony you missed the hopeful look Rhodey had in his eyes. Maybe the party tonight was his chance to make move since he never found the right moment to ask you on a date. You finally agreed and Tony even promised to arrange a dress for you once the board meeting was over.

That night when you arrived at the party it was already crowed. Tony had fulfilled his promise and had a gorgeous dress delivered by your place. One that perfectly matched your complexion and hugged your body in all the right places. It took a moment before you found Rhodey and the others, quickly making your way to them. “Look at you! Doesn’t she look beautiful Rhodey?!” Tony exclaimed, causing your cheeks to heat up “Leave her be Tony.” Pepper lectured him before complementing you on how you looked.  Tony kept pushing Rhodey to make a move, so much that even you noticed. Rhodey finally put it to a stop by asking you to dance with him. Causing Tony to make a weird squeeking sound. You looked at Rhodeys hand reaching out for a moment before taking it. “Ofcourse.” Rhodey took you to the center off the dancefloor, this time you didn’t miss the way he looked at you. You tried to hide the smile on your face but you really couldn’t. “Have I told you you look amazing?” He wondered as he started twirling you around on the dance floor “Not that you’re not stunning the way you normally look, I mean you do.” “Thank you Rhodey.” They dance to the rest of the song in silence, neither of you feeling the urge to fill it. It was only after the song ended you broke the silence by asking if he wanted to get off the dancefloor. “mrs. rhodes!” tony exclaimed when he picked up the call that had been intended for her husband. “how’s the hottest military wife on the east coast?”

“where’s my husband, tony?” she laughed, only a hint of annoyance in her voice.

“having the time of his life,” he said innocently. he heard her sigh.

“can we borrow him? just for a day?” he pleaded, though his tone stayed mainly neutral.
