Oh so fat
I made one of the experiments Kora had on done on her
This was good practice making art that isnt perfect.
Uh also the tag inspired this.
Warning for gore!
Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
It's so ugly but I missed 6 days so my mind forced me to draw and post it
now go get out of my sight
Day:9 needles
I SUFFERED TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DRAW
Anyways it's day 8: Masochist
didn't draw this guy in years but needed a willing victim
Very obvious spoiler stuff, a coloring headache, & some orc canon/headcanon info
I'm finally posting some art again. Sorry--it's 18+ due to some mild orc gore (trying to keep it professional).
As some of you may know, I recently moved to my neighboring state (Idaho) last week. I'm currently looking for employment in my local town, but for now I have extra time to "unshelve" my ongoing Tolkien-inspired story (which is still unfortunately unnamed).
I created some portraits of my Tolkien OCs in a very different art style (thick uneven lines and cel shading) a few years ago. They were posted briefly on Instagram, but disappeared due to my previous account being shut down (I was never given an explanation from Meta, sadly). I never reuploaded them because I wasn't too happy with the initial outcomes. Anyways, I'll cut to the chase.
Arínion, one of my OCs, is a protagonist and anti-villain my story. I could've picked a better name, but it fits Tolkien's unusual habit of making elvish names sound similar. He's the second child of Morwë (a canon Avarian elf) and Mélarina (another OC). Unfortunately, he goes from being an ambitious, moral, and dedicated clan leader to a ruthless, dictatorial conqueror. He's a member of those poor, unhappy ones that was ensnared by Melkor, taken into Utumno, and turned into an orc. Somehow, he managed to escape, retaining some elements of his sanity, though great damage was done (not only to his body, but also his fëa). He's sort of in a limbo situation. In Arínion's orc portraits, his face is very asymmetrical due to a broken jaw that healed incorrectly (it healed quickly b/c of a rapid growth of osseous tissue, a direct effect of increased growth hormones--see "*" below). This also explains why his facial bone structure is more exaggerated. His mouth is crooked and somewhat open because of the jaw misalignment--he can't properly close his mouth. Luckily, his teeth shifted to accommodate for this. I won't explain what's going on with the missing tissue from the scalp/right chest, nose, and eye. One word: wargs...
Tolkien never really made a decision on the origins of orcs, but for story purposes I chose to go with the more common version. I headcanon that in order to complete the transformation from elf to orc three things must occur: (1) a blood ritual*, (2) complete/perfect despair (this leads to the absolute loss of all sanity), & (3) surrender/submission of the will (this can easily occur by looking into Melkor's eyes). In Arínion's case, he only experienced #1 and was on the verge of #2. He's far too stubborn to ever undergo #3.
*Melkor will introduce his own blood into the wounds of the victims, which acts like an infection. It will spread throughout the body and completely alter the victim's blood composition (viscosity increases slightly and color changes from red to a near-black), which additionally triggers all kinds of physical changes to the body. As a result from the increased blood viscosity, the heart enlarges and beats more aggressively. Metabolism increases in response to the cold environment of Utumno. Victims develop an allergy (lesions) to sunlight (UV sensitivity resulting from skin discoloration), may develop a tapetum lucidum, experience partial/full colorblindness, a surge in growth hormone, increased appetite, develop mortal-like sleep, and loss of all teeth (canines grow in to replace missing teeth). It's my headcanon that the first orcs were very large (not as tall as Thingol, but I'd say taller than the average Calaquendi) and immortal (descendants are not due to increased breeding with humans) due to Melkor's power. After this blood ritual, victims do receive a small portion of Melkor's power, but it further drives/feeds their strongest vices. After many generations of breeding (between other elves, dwarves, and humans) and interbreeding, the average height of orcs shrinks substantially (fitting into Tolkien's canon description, where the height was roughly between 4-6 ft tall). I was inspired by biblical resources regarding the heights of Adam and Eve. Some sources suggest that they were ~15 ft tall. After their fall (original sin/eating the apple), their descendants increasingly became shorter and sickly over time.
I'll more than likely revise this and slowly add more information over time, but so far, this is what I've put together. This portrait of Arínion did not take me a long time to finish. It took me a long time to decide on colors. I had to go back and change the colors for the muscle tissue, veins, and blood to better fit the canon/headcanons. His elvish portrait needed to be fixed--the facial features weren't consistent with other drawings I've made of him.
