Being an adult means enjoying the simple pleasures in life like having Sonic be my GPS navigator on the Waze app.

His dialogue is so amusing like “Take the third exit. Just how many exits are there?” Or “Turn left. Or don’t. I’m all for unexpected adventures!”

You guys. I installed the Sonic sidekick on the Waze app and I am CRACKING UP. My man is just YAPPING.

It is so on brand, because you just know if you asked Sonic the Hedgehog how to get somewhere he wouldn't just give you directions; he'd give you directions with ✨commentary✨

Waze, a crowd-sourced car navigation app that helps people speed without getting caught is partnering with Starfleet Academy to add the voice of the Doctor to the navigation and add an interface inspired by the ship from the show.

To be clear up-front, Waze was bought by Google in 2013 so it's not currently an Israeli company. However, I feel it's worth raising that Waze:

Was founded as 'FreeMap Israel' by 3 former IDF members who served in Unit 8200, a technical intelligence agency

Is still partially based out of Tel Aviv

Coordinated with the IDF to shut down live traffic updates to support Israel's ground invasion of Gaza after October 7 (as did Google maps and Apple maps) in which Israel initiated the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza

By default, has a function that informs Israeli citizens how to avoid Palestinian areas and stick to segregated Israeli-only roads (which often lead to illegal settlements in the West Bank), but does not have an equivalent in-built feature (or even consideration) for Palestinians to navigate the segregated road system which forbids them from travelling on usually better-maintained Israeli-only roads, and requires them to pass many check-points that are not marked in Waze (source 1, source 2)

Because of the above example and because of its failure to mark illegal settlements as such on maps, Waze upholds and maintains the spatial and social ideology of apartheid

didn't activate my gps properly and got lost on the road to my monthly therapist appointment.

despite my poor sense of direction, i decided it was time for me to trust my instincts instead of pulling over to the side of the road to check where i was going.

ended up in front of my best friend's apartment building.

can't wait for him to become king of the pirates some day.
