YouTube no longer allows you to see dislikes on videos, which can be important information in determining whether or not a video is trustworthy or accurate. Though it comes with some caveats, you can restore dislikes with a browser extension.
Missing Extensions on Firefox (7.8.0 or 7.7.7)
New XKit 7.7.5 is not compatible with versions of Firefox later then 57 (Quantum).
To recover your missing extensions, you'll first have to install Firefox ESR (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/) before following the instructions below.
If you upgrade to 7.8.0 and you lose your extensions, don’t panic. The data is still there, just follow these steps to retrieve it:
First, temporarily install New XKit 7.7.5, which you can find at this link: https://github.com/new-xkit/XKit/releases/tag/firefox-v7.7.5 (the XPI file)
Second, install the XCloud extension if you don’t already have it.
Third, go to the XCloud tab and export a Local Backup of your XKit extensions
Once you have your local backup saved, go and install the latest version of New XKit, 7.8.0: https://new-xkit-extension.tumblr.com/firefox
Finally, install XCloud and import the backup you downloaded earlier
After that, you should be all good to go! If this doesn't fix your problem, please stop by our Discord support chat so we can help straighten things out.
Ok, so I found ONE epilepsy seizure protecting web extension that works (as long as you don't use Enhancer for YouTube). It's called: Seizafe - Epilepsy Alert for YouTube™. It has three levels of protection while watching YouTube and stops the video with a warning before a potentially triggering scene. I use the lowest setting personally, and that works for me. I didn't realize until now just how hostile all of media is to those with epilepsy. A warning will show up a lot even with the lowest setting, for good reason! Sadly, it only works on YouTube. It only monitors YouTube videos and nothing else, but it's something and I highly recommend it. It's only in the Chrome Web Store (but, if you use any Chromium based browser you can access it) though which sucks, but I can live with Opera, I guess. Seriously though, if you have epilepsy, TRY IT.
What web extensions do you use? Personally, as a Firefox user, I use:
600% Sound Volume
AdGuard AdBlocker
Alt or Not
Bitwarden
Dark Reader
DocsAfterDark
Enhancer For YouTube
LanguageTool
Mate Translate
OneTab
PronounBird for Twitter
Return YouTube Dislike
SponsorBlock for YouTube
Webp/Avif Image Converter
XKit Rewritten
Ok, so I found out about Waterfox, which is a fork of Firefox and Chrome, Firefox, and Opera extensions. Not all Chrome extensions work though, but a good chunk of them did. It syncs with Firefox for everything, and so I will be giving it a try to see if it works with my workflow and make sure the extensions I installed from Chrome (namely Seizafe which I genuinely need and isn't on Firefox) continue to work. I hope so as I don't want to use a Chromium-based browser, but Firefox doesn't have the extensions I need for my safety. So, we'll see how Waterfox works.
Why aren't there web extensions (that are regularly updated and don't work exclusively for GIFs or YouTube) that help people with epilepsy? Like, there should be an extension that warns of videos with flashing lights, or GIFs that can cause seizures or web sites that can do so.
anyone here with good thinking thoughts on extensions, im trying to find an ext that has a universal theme for all sites & not just one individual, id use stylish or whatever but it apparently got sold to a very sketchy company lol
