Okay, I know it's a little ... odd ... but I am finding it difficult to express, and label, the wave of emotions I felt when I saw the trash truck go down the road. Such a usual, commonplace, NORMAL sight to see in these extraordinarily ABNORMAL and distressing times. To see them was so very welcome. I am happy, relieved. Grateful. Then that worm of fear slithers back in. For myself and for them. In these troubling times, those men are getting up and going to work while their families are at home. They"re picking up our trash. Touching the garbage cans and bags, dumping the cans of recyclables. They don't know if any of their customers are sick with the Corona Virus. We don't know if any of them might have it. But what would we do without them? How much trash would pile up in our homes if those men didn't (or couldn't) go to work? Them and all the support personnel? The people who bring fuel for the trucks, and those who keep the trucks running? More essential workers that make little money. Risking themselves to do their jobs.
