Falta Re-Polling in West Bengal: High Turnout as Voters Return to Booths Under Tight Security
Fresh voting is underway in the Falta Assembly constituency (South 24 Parganas, West Bengal), where re-polling is being conducted across all 285 polling stations following allegations of EVM tampering and irregularities in the earlier election.
The Election Commission ordered a complete re-vote after serious complaints were raised about the integrity of the initial polling process held on April 29. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 24.
From early morning, long queues of voters have been seen at polling booths, with many expressing relief over improved security arrangements. Several voters stated that this time they are able to cast their votes without fear or pressure.
Security has been significantly strengthened, with eight Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel deployed at each booth, along with 35 companies of central forces and 30 Quick Response Teams across the constituency.
Political reactions remain sharp. The BJP candidate has expressed confidence of a major victory, claiming strong voter support in a peaceful atmosphere. Meanwhile, the TMC candidate’s withdrawal from the race has added another layer of political complexity, with the party calling it a personal decision.
Earlier voting was marred by allegations of EVM tampering and intimidation, prompting the Election Commission to order this unprecedented re-polling exercise.
The situation is being closely watched as a key indicator of voter sentiment and election management in the region.
