at last...i can write the pregnancy hcs. my time has come, i have risen. okay so—

First and foremost, if Reader and Qifrey were to have children, they were entirely, completely, and 100% unplanned. Even though neither of them explicitly discussed not having a child, there was an understanding that with four girls already living in the house adding a new born may not be a good idea.

However, while Reader and Qifrey actively try and avoid getting pregnant (Reader drinks a special tea once a week) they’ve had plenty of scares. Stuff happens, Qifrey is surprisingly passionate, and things get a little out of hand.

Reader get's pregnant after a very hectic month in the household (the equivalent of school finals for the girls) and after lessons are done for the season, tests have been passed and no one is stressing Qifrey and Reader have some very intimate downtime. She's also forgetten to drink her tea for two weeks because the atelier was turned on it's head.

She realizes she is pregnant first. Well, Richeh notices the changes initially, she comments on how Reader keeps sleeping at random times and her face is a little puffy. A light flips on in Reader's head and she's scrambling to do a test. Surprise surprise, you're pregnant honey.

There is no special reveal when it comes to telling Qifrey. It happens after the girls are all in bed and it’s just the two of them in their own. Relaxing underneath warm sheets and in their pajamas. Qifrey is reading by firelight and Reader in staring off into space and then the words, “I’m pregnant,” just burst out. Qifrey jolts and looks at her, “What?” “I”m pregnant.” “Oh my…”

Qifrey's not over the moon about it, but he's also not against it. He let's her decide what should be done. When she chooses to keep it, he happily agrees. When they tell the girls its all screaming and laughter and jumping up and down. Talking about dressing up a baby and teaching them to draw and so on and so forth. Needless to say, they’re all very very excited.

Qifrey has to give an impromtu, 'how babies are made lesson' after Tetia starts asking a million questions. She's to curious for her own good.

It's hilarious, Qifrey is confident teaching most subjects but trying to tell your adopted daughters about the birds and the bees is a mess. It's like a sitcom, Reader refuses to help him. "You got us into this situation, you're gonna have to get us out of it." Reader, dear, it takes two to make a child, cut your husband some slack.

During her pregnancy Reader is a mess, poor woman can't catch a break. Everything hurts, she's an emotional mess. She snaps at the girls more, and then sobs her eyes out because she thinks they now hate her (they don't). Her worst outburst is when she threw a vase at Qifrey's head. She feels awful about it but Qifrey is more than understanding (if not just a smidge terrified). But that also makes her more upset because now her husband is compromising everything for her bad attitude. She mellows out half way through her pregnancy though and only suffers from bouts of obnoxious nauseous (Qifrey has a tea for that.)

Qifrey is protective in a comedic way, gets anxious when she's doing household chores and she has to threaten him to get him to stop. She comprises with him by getting both him and the girls to help her with stuff. Climbing up the ladder to get dishes from the cabinet, crawling on the floor to scrub the wood clean, carrying large baskets of clothes. They do what they can and Reader is appreciative.

She goes into labor when Qifrey is at the Great Hall. Some important meeting he had with Beldaruit. Unfortunately, those meetings mean he is inaccessible and it's chaos when Reader enters active labor and it's just her and the girls. Quick and smart as they are they manage to call Sinocia, Qifrey arrives just in time. A little flustered, and confused but is there when she has the child.

Okay so I'm only on the first or second episode so please be patient if this is completely wrong to Witch Hat Atelier lore but-

What about a potential Isekai Fic AU where the reader is a witch and occultist from our world who somehow makes it to Zozah Peninsula because they're just that skilled with magic, and so they start helping Coco because "they're an outsider too" and they managed to learn the magic system there and get approved.

And maybe either Qifrey falls for them, or both Qifrey and Oleruggio fall for them and start a polyamorous relationship?? Idk if any of this is even possible in canon yet but I'm already coming up with ideas lol

I think they are still pretty close, especially right after they leave. Im picturing like, you like your family and live close after leaving for college.

So it starts off with still doing a weekend dinner or breakfast, then eventually goes to monthly as they start to fill in their independent lives. But they get letters or portal windowway calls.

The first time Tetia goes through a late teens breakup she is right back home for a week. Richeh get their help setting up her shop. Same with Coco and her atelier. Agott wont say anything but if she had to miss monthly dinner she shows up with a “spell thats giving me difficulties”.

But also Olly and Qifrey are pleased that they girls have their own lives. They are thrilled to be involved but they wanted them to be capable and independent witches.

Also orufrey are probably late 30’s by then? And finally able to be together? (In my head). They are living their best domestic life with the freedom and also loving to see the girls transitions to adulthood.

P.s. the girls are amused the first time they all go out to a bar together and both masters are fun? Not acting like teachers??

Been thinking about my darling Richeh from wha this autism awareness month, because 1) I am autistic and obsessed with witch hat atelier, 2) I love her so dearly, and 3) regardless of intention I think she is really wonderful autism representation. Here are some of the reasons why!

Sensory needs

When I think of Richeh’s sensory needs I think mainly of food and noise, but I’d argue there’s some tactile and olfactory stuff there with her too. For food, we see in wha kitchen that she’s pretty avoidant of certain foods (aka anything that isn’t sweets or meats!) and Qifrey likes to think of ways he can incorporate more variety into her diet without pushing her - I think mainly of the halfmoon legumes chapter here. In that same chapter there is a panel of her distressed because her hands smell like grass after helping prepare them, which I like to interpret as a sensory aversion to the smell. I also really love how both the girls and Qifrey are very surprised and proud of Richeh for being willing to try new foods, but also insist she needn’t push herself - it’s so sweet to me thats she’s in an environment where she’s understood and allowed to have different needs without being portrayed as an inconvenience. For an example of aversion to noise I think of the quartz sugar crystals chapter in wha kitchen volume 4, where Qifrey is bashing up the crystals and Richeh looks very much the way I do when dealing with loud noises! Squeezing the life out of poor brushbug! I like to think she finds brushbug’s fur a sensory comfort too, since I feel like out of all of the girls she seems to be panelled with him the most (could be confirmation bias on my part!), I know that’s a bit more of a stretch but that’s how I like to see it!

Affect, expression, and bluntness

In my opinion, Richeh generally either has more subdued facial expressions or conveys emotion with different facial expressions compared to the other girls. My favourite example is the panel after she gives everyone their guiding rings - her face is pretty neutral (minus the blush) and she’s hiding behind her hair and nodding, and there’s a little arrow saying she’s overjoyed. It’s one of my favourite Richeh panels, she’s looks so silly, all the panels I’m talking about I’m just gonna attach to this post at the end. When I read her dialogue (outside of particularly tense or emotional moments) I find myself naturally reading it with more of a flat affect/intonation than I do other characters, but I don’t know whether that’s just a me thing. I definitely think that she can be pretty blunt though! She’s unguarded about her opinions and honestly that’s fucking awesome. Maybe not awesome all of the time, I’ll attach a panel I’m thinking of where she tells Tetia her hairstyle is weird and Agott tells her off for being blunt lol

Fixation and attention to detail

This bit is specifically about the quartz sugar crystal chapter in the kitchen spin-off that I mentioned before, because I think she’s just so wonderful in it. Like bro that’s my daughter for real. Anyway, Qifrey crushes up a big pretty sugar crystal to make some gelatin sweets for the girls but Richeh is upset that he has to destroy the original crystal. Thinking about it, that could definitely be interpreted as the autistic tendency to get attached to certain inanimate objects. She gets a little fixated here, and whilst the other girls are making their own crystal sweets in fun new shapes and colours, Richeh makes a perfect replica of the original sugar crystal from memory. She is so strange and I love her so much.

Aversion to change

This is a huge part of Richeh’s early character and pretty much the focus of volume 4. She loves her magic and feels secure in her own style and talents, but is reluctant to expand her magic knowledge out of fear of this changing and causing her to lose the magic that feels genuine and personal to her. I think difficulty with change is a less well known autistic trait, but many of us really struggle with it, myself especially! Volume 4 means so much to me, and regardless of Shirahama’s intention I was glad to see myself reflected in Richeh there.

Other miscellaneous things

I just remembered about her little room!! The cool magic hiding spot she has in that big pot in her room where she escapes to when she doesn’t want to talk or be around people. Need me one of those for real. I think there also some evidence for her stimming, especially that one panel where she’s excited and is pumping her fists up and down in the air with a completely blank expression, that really reads as autistic to me ahaha

I’ve ran out of things to add I think, and I don’t actually expect anyone to read this, it’s mainly for me and I’m sure it’ll sit in my drafts for a while anyway! Disclaimer: I’m not trying to say anything about Shirahama’s writing intentions, I’m just having fun! Read witch hat atelier please! It might be my favourite thing in the world at the moment actually! Oh yeah! The panels! I’ll just shove all the ones I can find below lol

Alright, you’re asking for my headcanons… let’s see what I’ve got for you.

Since you’re a guest here in my inbox, I feel obligated to give you a bit for the characters you’ve listed here, to start. So,

Utowin: (before Galga got his memories erased) He, Galga and Luluci were all drinking buddies. They had Easthies stressed whenever they went out lol

Olruggio: Autistic. Is the kind of guy who gets ideas for inventions/spells at 3am while trying to sleep, and spends the rest of the night working on them. This is half the reason why he has sleep issues.

Qifrey: Also autistic. I see him as demiromantic and demisexual as well (if you would like the easfrey crumbs in this one, then Eas was his demi awakening, after they fell out)

Anyway, HCs for other characters, let’s go:

Richeh is nonbinary. This is one I intend to write a fic about when I get to doing it eventually.

In the same vein, Euini is also nonbinary, and realises this while in the desert with Alaira. They’re NB4NB in my heart.

Not one I made, but I subscribe to transfem Tetia.

Also not one I made, but I subscribe to moral OCD Easthies (because I need to project my worst traits onto someone)

Qifrey, Olruggio, Alaira and Easthies were, at one point back in the day (before Eas joined the knights) a group of 4. Obviously orufrey were closer to each other, but I still think they did some stuff together as a group. I actually have a few incorrect quotes about these guys

The former 3 became a drinking trio before Qifrey adopted started teaching Agott. After Qif became a teacher, he and Olly made sure that there would be no instance where both of them were too drunk to be there for the kids if necessary, so they toned it down on the alcohol. Pretty sure this last bit’s canon, but Alaira and Qifrey are (still) drinking buddies.

All of Qifrey’s atelier is autistic, actually. And so is Easthies. (There was once someone on the old Discord server who was concerned that hcing Eas as autistic would be a bad move, and I responded “It’s fine if you headcanon him as autistic, so long as you headcanon Coco as autistic with the same valor.”, and I’m serious, her love for magic is so reminiscent of a special interest to me)

Richeh has the PDA (pathological demand avoidance) profile of autism, to elaborate. (and is very relatable in that regard)
