Looking for a read (or two) that will make you laugh until you cry and cry until you laugh? Look no further. The beautiful, funny, perfectly human Jenny Lawson is the woman you want to read. . It took waaaay to long to get Rory to cooperate and wear this little Santa hat I borrowed from Son. It kept slipping down or falling off or getting caught in the tiny claws on his tiny raccoon fingers. Ugh. Rodents are hard to work with. 😉 . Actually, are raccoons rodents? I think they are, but I also thought possums were rodents, and it turns out they are marsupials (which I have the sneaking suspicion I may have known when I was seven, but had absolutely forgotten). . Rodent or no, you should still read @thebloggess books! Gift them to all your favorite people. 💛 . #jennylawson #letspretendthisneverhappened #furiouslyhappy #wheresrory #bookrecommendation #memoir #mentalhealth #bookstagram
I was beyond excited to get to talk to Jenny Lawson at Books by the Banks. There was a lull in her signing line and I ran with my books and my Rory over to hers, panting and babbling as I dumped everything on the table. I'm not sure I completed a sentence in her presence. Pretty sure I neglected to tell her in person that her writing inspires me to be me--messy and true and my own brand of weirdness. Her writing makes me laugh and cry and laugh again. Her stories make me feel heard and connected and part of something I'll never really understand, but I'm okay with not understanding as long as I know there are people like Jenny Lawson living in this world. And the thing is…I'm pretty sure Jenny would understand, did understand from my slightly manic grinning and babbling just how much her books mean to me, because she's Jenny Freaking Lawson. . Afterward, I was so thrilled with my signed Rory that I kept moving him around, making him peek out in photos and letting him help me sign my own books. One little boy was definitely disturbed by the raccoon poking out from behind my books. He may have thought he was real for just a second. ☺️ But when I let him hold Rory, his whole face lit up. That's the power of the furiously happy raccoon! . #bbtbcincy #jennylawson #wheresrory #furiouslyhappy #loveandotherunknownvariables #lifeafterjuliet #authoradventures
Ever had one of those friends (or little sisters--looking at you @bawilkie ) who thinks it's the funniest thing ever to jump out and scare the bejeezus out of you? Yeah. Anger's not too happy with Rory right now. 😆 . But I'm furiously happy because all my birthday gifts came a day early (and no, I don't have enough will power to wait and open them tomorrow--especially when I ordered them all for myself!) so I now have my very own copy of @thebloggess 's brilliant book for her to sign at Books by the Banks in Cincinnati next month! . Anyone else buy yourself birthday presents? Or am I the lone selfish lady in the bunch? Hey, I know what I want. No gift receipts necessary. 😏 . #lilbookishseptember (orange and blue books) #fallthebooks (stuffed animal) #furiouslyhappy #wheresrory #insideout #jennylawson #booknerdigans #bookstagram
Last year, Shannon and I took a trip to Sonoma County, CA to visit friends. I was blown away at the experience, not only because of the stunning beauty everywhere, but because I realized that there were other like minded people like me in the world. At least in California. It blew my mind, because I don’t know why I never thought there were other people like me.
That’s what it was like when I first heard of the book Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson aka The Bloggess. I had no idea that you could live your life like that. I didn’t know there were other people that felt like frauds, that felt anxious with non-Internet things, or felt like they didn’t want to get out of bed some days.
Jenny Lawson describing the story of Rory the Raccoon and how you can still be outwardly FURIOUSLY HAPPY when you sometimes feel broken was life changing for me. I am making a conscious effort to try to be as happy as possible now, to make up for all the years I wasn’t happy.
This tattoo will always remind me to try to be happy, even when you lose your fingers in a tragic roller coaster accident in Vegas (read the book.)
This piece was done by Phil Colvin at the Elm Street Music and Tattoo Festival.
I am now going to see Frank Turner in concert tonight and I can hear the lyrics to Get Better in my mind right now. ‘We can get better, because we’re not dead yet.“
Furiously Happy forever.

Rory took a day trip to Yosemite and decided to take the Valley Floor Tram Tour. He attracted a lot of attention for his cuteness & even had his photo taken with the tour’s Park Ranger, Scott. (see twitter acct) Rory met people from other places in CA, and many out of state visitors who wanted to hear his story and to tell theirs. This was odd for Rory who is often chuckled at, but never addressed directly.
Rory got his picture taken in all the iconic places in Yosemite Valley and ended the day by watching the setting sun reflect off of Half Dome. (No filters were used) It was really a nice autumn day in Yosemite, and Rory looks forward to going back to see the leaves turning their bright fall colors.
The closest I will willingly get to taxidermy. #wheresrory #furiouslyhappy #fh #salonat615 #thebloggess (at Nashville Public Library)
