TLDR: this white queer person tried to hold other white queer people accountable for their racism and they DID NOT LIKE THAT
white trans people on twitter are mass bullying/harassing a Black 16 year old 2-spirit indigenous person for rightfully having a fear of police violence against them for having diy hrt on them bc we’ve literally seen Black kids be murdered for everything under the sun already by nonblack people.
white queers live largely in their own heads and not in reality bc they are so divorced from empathy for Black & NDN queer people and kids, the people actually experiencing the brunt of all violence against queer ppl in the US, it’s genuinely insane to me how they build up these online martyr complexes & followings. they traffic in the same white fragility, myth making, & victim complexes white cis het ppl do.
some screenshots of posts tangentially related to the mass harassment of a Black trans minor:
the way a lot of you white trans women seem to think that anti blackness and misogyny is some sort of rite of passage for you or just smth that isn’t a big deal and that anyone who says otherwise and calls you out is automatically and inherently transphobic/transmisogynistic is really fucking evil, btw.
I find the way that some white queers think about others and interact with others that are nonwhite- even unknowingly- quite frankly disturbing. No matter who you are, being aware you have privilege in some way (because you probably do!) or just being aware of how others and yourself go about the world similarly/differently is IMPORTANT.
I see this most often in discussions about transandrophobia, where someone will bring up how trans MOC are, in fact, in more danger than a white trans man in comparison. They seem to feel attacked and lash out instead of supporting or deconstructing why they feel that way.
Another way this seems to manifest is when white queers claim that Black culture was made from the LGBTQIA+ community. And while the Black and Queer communities have historically intertwined, this claim of saying that the Black community wasn't the origin of many parts of culture is pure erasure that they don't seem to understand. (Example: Clock it, Queen, most of AAVE actually)
It also comes in people assuming that their lived experience is equivalent to everyone's. The odd victim complex they have in where if something doesn't affect them it doesn't exist is.. worrying, to say the least.
Note: I did not say all white queers. I said SOME. I repeat, I said SOME. So don't drag me into anything. Also, feel free to add with any other points or experiences.
Hey, random ask, but can you explain why each of the media in your negative opinions you don't like? Just curious. TADC is pretty obvious and so are a lot of others, but I'm curious on what you specifically don't like about each of them to be listed in that section.
Sure, though it'll be pretty redundant.
TADC: Racism in the writing and the overall cast. Also misogyny, ableism, transphobia, and a poor piece of writing overall.
Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss: Racism. Misogyny, again this work comes from a bigoted creator and cast. Also very poor and inconsistent messaging, general ignorance. "White queer media".
Homestuck: Racism and ableism in the writing, bigoted creator, purposeful ignorance. "White queer media".
Shameless: Racism in the writing, misogyny, general bias in its storylines and inconsistent messaging. Also lesbophobia.
Black Panther 2: Committed the crime of directly having a storyline where white people pit two distinct ethnic cultures against each other and then didn't address the original racism.
She-Ra: Racism; white washing magic, sidelines its POC characters and attempted to do a genocide allegory and failed majorly. "White queer media".
Jujutsu Kaisen: Blatantly racist and misogynistic, also just poorly explained writing in general.
Persona 5: Incredibly pedophilic game, inconsistent writing, vague homophobia, and also racism.
Star Vs The Forces of Evil: Minor pedophilic sideplot that we just ignore (Marco x Hekapoo), again tried to the "genocide" allegory and failed majorly, also racist.
Danganronpa: Bruh. It's just bigoted all around.
Poppy Playtime: Tries to do the "genocide" allegory and fails majorly, poorly written and very inconsistent writing.
Princess and The Frog: Racist and ignorant depiction of ADRs (African Derived Religions), poor storyline, and overall a pretty big "fuck you" to the Black community when we dared to ask for a princess.
Dispatch: Racism. Misogyny. Queer Baiting. Poorly written and inconsistent storyline, also constantly excusing and validating sexual assault.
Steven Universe: Racism. "White queer media". Tried to do the genocide allegory and failed big time. Followed up with a discussion on mental health that was completely backhanded to most of the cast.
Stardew Valley: Generally racist and non inclusive writing, the overall fandom also supports and aggravates this issue.
Miraculous Ladybug: Racism, and also distinctly orientalism. BLATANT anti-semitism, and overall was created by a creep and a weirdo.
Yandere Simulator: Bruh. Orientalist and pedophilic AF. Also just a crappy game overall from a mechanical and narrative perspective.
people shipping sammie and remmick makes me realize 1) how much people feel they need to center whiteness in black media and 2) how much they feel like they need to center white queerness even though there’s a ship between stack and louis from IWTV that’s popular amongst black queers… but ofc… that’s the one that gets ignored… in favor of (checks notes) the non-existent intimacy between sammie and remmick. vampires are and CAN represent sexuality, but this is not one of those times.
their canon dynamic is actually interesting by itself and there’s so much material y’all could write about without shipping them.
“this is censorship” it’s not. and it’s odd that that’s the defense yall have when there’s actual censorship happening in real life. like with the new bill that was introduced where they’re literally trying to re-define what obscenity is in media so they can start banning whatever the hell They want to. saying ‘this is censorship’ when you’re being called out for being weird just means you’re taking away from actual issues about censorship. yk. like books being banned.
“ship and let ship” not saying yall can’t ship it cause yall will do it anyways because you’re weird and can’t unpack why you feel the need to in the first place. but i’m allowed to say how weird it is. you can’t just let black characters exist in media, even black queer media cause white queers never gaf about Moonlight (for example), without shipping them with an abusive white counterpart.
most of the time y’all seem to be projecting a weird need to center yourselves when white people aren’t the focal point of black media. if 12 years a slave came out today, yall would probably ship a slave with the master or the masters wife and say “you can’t say anything that would be censorship!”
also, y’all saying Pearline is a ‘boring character’ and ‘not developed’ is the excuse yall use every time a black woman gets in the way of your weird ass ship. see: Braeden from Teen Wolf (gets in the way of Sterek) and Mel (gets in the way of Jayce and Viktor)
Hey white person, you being neurodivergent, LGBTQ, disabled or financially unstable doesn’t make you incapable of being racist nor does your proximity to minorities. In fact, if your reaction to being held accountable is to mention your black/POC friend, partner, etc, that’s called tokenising and is… guess what? RACIST.
Experiencing ableism, trans/queerphobia and poverty isn’t the same as racism and if you’re a white person who does this you’re just as bad as your right wing/cishet counterparts. Stop saying you “see and hear us” but speak over us or “don’t see colour” when we call out how YOU ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THE OPPRESSION OF MINORITIES. It’s fucking exhausting and annoying.
