Can you imagine if season 7 was just a regular 10 episode season where Arya didn't waste time on Starkbowl, Wight Hunt wasn't a thing and both Arya & Dany concentrated on Cersei...we would have been put out of our misery two years ago.

Okay, so, i just finished episode six of season seven and i must say, this might be one of my favorite episodes. I mean look at the Wight Hunt Squad, they are just the coolest dudes ever.
1) We have Jon Snow, King in the North, who is literally the character most of us can identify most with. He is fearless and doesn’t even wait a second to do the things that need to be done, even if it means to sacrifice himself. I mean, he has done that..how often again? I just love him, i almost jumped from my bed out of excitement and fear because I was scared he wouldn’t make it to Drogon‘s back, which he didn’t, but still...
2) We have Ser Jorah Mormont, about whom I have written my previous post. Enough said, I think.
3) We have Tormund, who is also one of the funniest, wittiest and actually quite wise characters (maybe I’ll do another post about him). I just can’t see Jon Snow going anywhere without him.
4) Then we have the Brotherhood without Banners, which means we have Beric Dondarion (who is btw way too underrated, might do a post about him too xD), Thoros Of Myr (I’m quite glad that he had such a “peaceful” death, i mean, who gets do die in their sleep in GoT??) and the Hound. Do i need to say more than Sandor Clegane absolutely roasting Gendry about whining all the time?? Funniest scene in the whole episode.
This is literally the best squad in the whole series to this point. My favorite underrated characters (besides Jon Snow ofc) all at once? With such cool scenes? Man I loved that. On an emotional level, I accompanied them on their journey. And hello?? Jon Snow getting to see Benjen again, even if he died shortly after? At least he got to know that Benjen was alive the whole time. I really hope Bran tells him what happened to Benjen, Jon deserves to know why he didn’t come back to the Nights Watch. Even though I felt really really bad for Dany and Viserion (bc I just can’t get enough of dragons) I think the story finally begins to set wheels in motion. I’m really excited about what’s gonna happen in episode 7 and season 8!!
I don't see how the wight hunt would have happened anyway without Daenerys. I don't think it's her fault, it was a stupid decision and Dany is just uneducated so people confuse the two. Jon wouldn't have went on the hunt to convince Cersei. He wasn't worried about her 1000 miles away with a southern army. He did it to convince Dany. She lost a dragon and still didn't entirely change her tune. She was only worried about him dying for nothing and Cersei taking back half the country.
Dear nonny,
I completely agree. The suggestion might have been Tyrion’s but to give him his due he was trying to find a solution for a situation that stuck. Jon had news about Bran’s dreams - still no solid evidence for the danger of the WW, Da€nerys was not willing to believe it, or at least not willing to act on it. So Jon wanted to leave to fight, but was reluctant to do so without the alliance he thought he needed, Da€nerys was still unwilling to just go North - althought that would have been possible after she defeated the Lannisters on the Goldroad, and Cersei made no move to give up. So Jon’s priority was to get home, but preferably with an alliance. Da€nerys’ priority was not to lose any advantage she had gained with her victory.
I wonder, what would have happened if Jon had bent the knee there and then. That is imho the only way, how they could have avoided the Wight Hunt, but Jon did not want to do that. He rather volunteered on a suicide mission than bend the knee in episode 5 (and yet we are supposed to believe he ‘needlessly’ bent the knee in the next episode?)
So, Tyrion came up with this brilliant plan to get at least an armistice from Cersei after providing the proof for the existence of the White Walkers - which would give Da€nerys the opportunity to help Jon. Tyrion actually suggested something that would have enabled a real alliance for the purpose of defeating the NK. It is the classic move of a negotiator to get out of a trap of set opinions. Some new plan to re-open possibilities. From what Tyrion knew (and we don’t have enough of his PoV to know if he believed in the monsters beyond the wall), he came up with a possibility to get out of a locked situation. Jon wants to wage war against the WW, Da€nerys wants to secure her gains.... Wight Hunt - Proof - Armistice with Cersei - Chance for Da€nerys to send her troops north and maybe earn the allegiance of this stubborn Northman. That is what might have been going on in Tyrion’s head. I doubt he had any idea how dangerous it was to go beyond the wall.
So, Jon saw a chance to get the alliance he needed, after Da€nerys would have gotten what she needed, that is a truce with Cersei. It was a risk, Jon was nevertheless more willing to take than bending the knee on the spot. Maybe he had his doubts about Da€nerys being willing to help him even if he bent the knee. Maybe he was a bit suicidal, or at least indifferent about his own survival. Maybe he saw a chance to finally leave if he went on a mission for Da€nerys. Since we do not see his PoV at Dragonstone all reasons are possible, or a mixture of all.
Da€nerys saw a chance to secure her victory and play the saviour in the North (and maybe get that stubborn Jon Snow to admit that she is great).
I do think, that from the characters’ perspective the Wight Hunt is not that stupid. It’s not the best plan but if it is successful every party involved gets something more than they had. I think at least Tyrion and Da€nerys did not know that chances were always against them. Jon, who was the one person who knew the most about how dangerous it was, was the person with the least options here.
I think, that the disastrous outcome of the Wight Hunt (and let’s be honest, the inconsistent and cheesy way in which it was filmed - the redshirts being there and not there, Marathon runner Gendry, Dragon ex machina, nobody attacks the NK, while the NK somehow takes only one dragon and not the one who is the taxi, Benjen ex machina - and that is just the tip of the iceberg) makes us forget that it wasn’t that bad of a an idea - from Tyrion’s perspective, nor was it a bad idea of Jon to agree to it. That leaves us with Da€nerys. If she had done, what Stannis did, that is save her people because she has an obligation to the people she wants to rule, the Wight Hunt would not have been necessary. I mean Stannis who is pretty much an entitled bastard who burns people alive, did the right thing when he came to help the Night’s watch before they had done any knee-bending.....
I guess in the books, Jon’s foresight as LC might come into play: He put some wights in the ice cells, after all, and therefore he would not need to do a wight hunt. On the other hand, it is possible that we’ll see something like the Wight Hunt in the books as well (if not as stupidly written). There is evidence in ADWD that Da€nerys will at least fight once at or beyond the wall. And I wouldn’t put it beyond those idiots Thorne and Marsh and all the mutineers to abandon Jon’s experiment with the wights in the cells.
If you look at the Wight Hunt from all these perspectives it is clear, that the suggestion was Tyrion’s but the blame is Da€nerys’. And I think it should also make us wonder why did Jon bend the knee on the boat. For this it is essential that he realises that he is on his way South, and that all the proof Da€nerys saw does not change her priority - which is the Iron Throne.
Thanks for the ask!
Jon: *is in danger*
Dany:
Jondelion shippers can deny the UCL theory all they want, but Dandelion IS NOT someone Jon would EVER fall for, sorry.
Her reply in the GIF below, literally shows you “what” Dandelion truly is.
And Jon’s reaction to her saying that, to her STILL thinking about the Iron Throne and prioritizing it, after she’s seen the NK, after the NK has killed one of her Dragons, says it ALL.
(All the GIFs above are mine)
Dandelion has seen the Night King, and she still prioritizes power, being Queen and sitting on the Iron Throne. If you think Jon would ever fall for someone as arrogant, as selfish, as entitled and as power hungry as her, then you clearly don’t know/don’t understand Jon’s character, at all, and you need to go read the books, and if you have already, go give them a re-read.
He’s bent the knee, called her his Queen, gave her his Kingdom, and if Cersei hadn’t lied that she’d cease fire, she would’ve let the Northerners on their on, to die. Jon knows there are high chances Cersei won’t keep her word, and he needs to make sure once Cercei starts “coming in”, that Dandelion doesn’t flee with her Dragons and bail on him and on the North.
Jon seducing her was necessary in order to get her emotionally invested in the cause, it’s not honorable, and he knows it, very well, but he’s tried it all, I mean, she even saw the Night King and his army, and that, didn’t work either, it should’ve, but it didn’t, nothing worked with her, because she’s too self absorbed and thinks the world revolves around her. She literally gave Jon no other choice.
Jon doesn’t love her, he’s everything she’s not, they are polar opposites, with different aspirations, different dreams, diffrent views of the world, different ways of thinking, different ways of ruling and inspiring people and their loyalty, Jon is given power, Dandelion wants to take it by force, and the list can go on.
How could anyone think he’d ever fall for someone who burns people alive? His uncle and grandfather were burned alive. Did you forget how he reacted when Mance was being burned? Did you forget how he sent Melisandre away, when he found out she burned Shireen alive? How he threatened her, that if she’s ever seen North again, he’ll hang her for murder?
He’s spent months on Dragonstone and we haven’t seen him laugh once on Dragonstone or in Dandelion’s presence, the only time he’s shown laughing on Dragonstone, is with Gendry (a stranger) while he’s getting ready to leave that damned island he’s been trapped on for months. He laughs and jokes with him from second 1, and he keeps laughing and smiling and joking with the boys (Tormund & co.) after he arrives at Eastwatch.
The difference in how he behaves on Dragonstone, and how he behaves after he leaves Dragonstone is striking.
On Dragonstone and around Dandelion, he always looks so broody, so tense and weary.
Whilst after he leaves, he looks relaxed, smiles, laughs, talks freely, even though he is on a suicide mission, and he acknowledges the fact that he might die, again, that they might all die, he’s more relaxed and at ease than we’ve ever seen him in Dragonstone and with Miss D., he basically starts acting like our Jon again.
I love how he “refuses” to lie to Cersei and declares he already serves a Queen, Dandelion, and gives that whole speech about lying, when he is fact lying, and he serves neither Dandelion nor Cersei, he serves only the North and his family. He pulled that stunt to make Dandelion believe, he is good and honorable through and through, to appear honest, to appear as if he would never lie to anyone, ever, to appear as if he would never deceive anyone.
He doesn’t love her, but he needs her dragons, and at this point he’s beyond frustrated with her.
We’ve seen him lie and deceive before, I don’t see why Dandelion is so special that he wouldn’t do it with her too. If needed, if it was for the greater good, if it was to protect Bran, Arya and Sansa, he would do it, without hesitating, even if it wasn’t the honorable thing to do. He didn’t enjoy betraying Ygritte, but he did it anyway. The fact Ned was killed for his honor, and has the reputation of always telling the truth strengthens his ‘stunt’, makes it so much more believable.
“The more people you love, the weaker you are. You’ll do things for them, that you know you shouldn’t do. You’ll act the fool to make them happy, to keep them safe.” (Jon will do ANYTHING to save the North, to save his people and most importantly his family)
“If it were anyone else outside those gates, I might have hoped for a private audience. But this is Stannis Baratheon. I’d have a better chance at seducing his horse. Have I shocked you (I suppose there’ll be many shocked viewers next season lol), little dove? Tears aren’t a woman’s only weapon.” (Jon begged her, tried to persuade her, he tried to feed her ego, and nothing worked). “The best one’s between your legs.” (this is Jon’s last resort, Dandelion literally forced his hand, so upon realizing it’s the only way, he (reluctantly) decides to use it)
The UCL theory is real. Everything Dandelion is, Jon isn’t (thank the Gods). Everything Jon does and says, points to him not loving her, to him having to seduce her, so all the people in 7 Kindoms don’t end up turned into walking dead men.
Whether you think the wight hunt was completely stupid or not, Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion roasting the army of the dead remains one of the most satisfying minute of television I've ever seen. The fuckers have been scaring me for 7 seasons, it was a pleasure to watch them being barbecued.
C*U*N*T*S (Thank the GODS for 'The Wight Hunt', it will be providing us with hilarious material for months LMAO)
How Sansa would fix the Worst Plan Ever
Jon: So I’m going to lead a group of random guys beyond the Wall to catch a wight.
Sansa: ...
Jon: I know it’s risky but I’ve got a lot of good reasons and a really solid plan-
Sansa: Tell me the plan.
Jon: Sure. Well... um... I’m going to lead a group of random guys beyond the Wall to a catch a wight.
Sansa: That’s what I thought. Oh no. Not again. If you’re going to do this, you’re going to have a plan. One you actually stick to instead of riding head-first into death, expecting things will work. Jon: It worked against Ramsay. Sansa: No. It really didn’t.
Jon: Riiiiiight. Well this time I can’t ride off because I won’t have a horse-
Sansa: Wait, why won’t you have a horse? How are you going to outrun the wights? Remember, those undead sprinters you told me about? Also how were you going to carry the wight back at all? Carry it yourself?
Jon: We have some big guys...
Sansa: Great. Now what happens if, gods forbid but it’s almost certainly going to, things go wrong?
Jon: We’ll run back to the Wall... oooooh. Yeah, horses are a good idea. Well, we’d ride back to Eastwatch and send a raven for help.
Sansa: Maybe take a raven with you? Then help would already be waiting for you.
Jon: Heeeeey, that’s a great idea. We did that on the Great Ranging! Come to think of it we had horses then. Torches too. Maybe I should bring some of those.
Sansa: You weren’t going to bring fire? Jon! You’re hunting wights!
Jon: One of the outlaws I’m bringing has a fire sword. It’s really cool.
Sansa: *groans*
Jon: Hear me out! These guys worship fire. They’re all about it. Well, except the Hound.
Sansa: Sandor Clegane?
Jon: Yup. I might ask him to stay back-
Sansa: Nope. He’s good. Who else?
Jon: Tormund, obviously. And Gendry. He’s Robert Baratheon’s bastard.
Sansa: Well, Tormund makes sense. Really, he should be the one leading this thing but you hate to do smart things. What’s this Gendry do?
Jon: He’s got a hammer.
Sansa: Is the Night King allergic to hammers?
Jon: I can’t be sure. But no.
Sansa: Is there an adult there I can speak to?
Jon: Yeah, one sec. TORMUND!
