Another reason I wish TVD had actually been a story of brothers...
Damon dealing with Tanner for the right reasons. We see him in parent-teacher conferences for Jeremy down the line. But a parent-teacher conference for Stefan where Tanner is shit-talking him. Damon, in spite of his anger towards his little brother, goes into protective brother mode and actually starts standing up to him.
Someone overhears and is like "I didn't think you cared" and Damon brushes it off as "Of course I don't, shut up". But at least for a couple of weeks, Tanner lays off Stefan.
For an outsider he looks and acts confused and non-confidential. Most people don't take him seriously.
That is the plan!
Tanner knows exactly what he is doing, why he is doing it, and for what outcome.
He loves to play by the rules and adored M Mansfield for that.
He respect her and only her and had a hard time to adjust to M Mallory, even that he understood at once this man is good in his job. He is doing things differently.
Enjoys to be more of a team player now.
