Gaining Wings in Guarded
I am strictly talking Magic Winx
So...this post changed my brain chemistry forever and I need to make a separate post for my Guarded Au as we slowly approach the end...and the fact that i have been neglecting Winx in these posts.
Mostly because Winx remain as close to canon as possible with very small differences here and there mostly regarding Magix planets and realms.
Most likely I will expand on it once we reach the end of Guarded to explain the main war, how realms came to be, water stars and dragon flame lore.
For now sth bit more simple.
In order for any magical creature to transform and gain their wings they must overcome the first big obstacle in their life. Think the first big decision that forced them to be stronger, braver, a better being in a way. The moment you stand up for what you believe in.
For each fairy that moment was different and their wings often resemble that moment.
As @what-is-going-on-help pointed out Bloom's wings resemble strongly the enchanted butterflies from the episode 4 season 1 If I recall correctly also they remind me of how the Alfea's window is structured. In addition Bloom is from Earth (Season 1) so her vision of the fairy is connected to butterflies.
So yes big moment.
Stella's wings:
You see where I am going with this? Even her ring as scepter looks like sunflower.
Symbolism of the Sunflower
"It’s no surprise that both ancient and modern people associated the Sunflower with warmth, positivity, power, strength, and happiness since it bears such a strong resemblance to the Sun itself. In Greek mythology, it’s tied to a story of a nymph who becomes the flower after losing her love."
My guess? Stella as a Princess made a good deed toward her dear friend which granted her her wings. It could be saving the friend's party or helping her get with someone aka being a matchmaker which show Stella often does. Taking to Musa about Jared, telling Bloom to go on a date with Sky and so on. It checks out. Also it might have been Nova which we meet in Season 3. Another theory is about how she proved her own shine despite as a kid being quite awkward and wearing glasses. She either found a light within herself or within others.
Musa's wings:
Her wings reminds me of cello. Why? I mean these:
It can also refer to strings or flute or even 5 line in music sheets. I can only imagine maybe Musa then stood up to her father in stopping his destruction of other instruments or maybe she fixed it and played it awaking her inner magic. It was traumatic, sad but that kinds fit the vibe of our girl. She is empathetic, sensitive and very deeply connected with her emotions.
Flora's wings:
I tried hard finding sth that resembled the leaves of flower petals of Flora's wings but i forgot I don't like flowers...I went with ginger
Despite its symbolism being he opposite of our fairy at times I think it suits her. Flora has a moment when she stopped being sweet and fought. I could see her being resilient regarding a plant that died and she proved everyone by standing up and giving it a chance. Even fiercely protecting it. Maybe the plant was carnivore?
And despite it she wanted it to live and thrive even if it went against the what was known in nature. Maybe it was her first sentient plant?
Layla's wings:
I see fins, gills, a shape connected to her ancestry and her kingdom.
Layla as we learned was a closeted child and most likely her act of bravery allowed her to leave the palace walls and become the Layla we all adore. I can almost see her cousins maybe asking for help or she herself saw sth happening outside her window and decided I cannot stand by to see my people getting hurt or fish or truly anything and left the safety of her rooms and decided to take action.
She chose heroism. Maybe she saw one pixie struggling with water current and decided to help them when She and her parents went to visit Pixie village?
Tecna's wings:
A bit of a stretch but her wings reminds me of Antenas too
or satellite. Either all refer to going beyond. Reaching far when you are stuck in the same place. Tecna might have received her wings by becoming a messenger or someone who aided in sending a very important information. Sth broke, she was too young to fix it but created the alternative and made people around her take the unconventional initiative. Sth that Zenith wouldn't consider traditional or right, but it's Tecna and she left this planet to be more than machine.
Wings are gained and are fairy's pride...to think someone would want to lose them.
Winx reboot looks made in sims by me
Magic System: Fairy Magic
I'm going to try to keep this simple, then go back to go more in depth.
There is a serious power creep problem in The Realm of Magix! The first three transformations make sense; you have the base transformation, Charmix, and Enchantix. Fairies go to school to earn these! Enchantix is when you earn your fairy dust and are considered a fully fledged Guardian Fairy (whatever that means...) so why are there twenty more transformations after that!?
Okay, so twenty is an exaggeration, however, according to the Winx Fan Wiki, there are ten to twelve other transformations, of which we have no in universe basis for outside of "The Winx Club need to power up, so here is a convenient means to do so!" The requirements for earning each power up make less and less sense as you go on as well, though I need to discuss that in a separate post out of fear of going on a tangent.
One of the big things about fairy magic that I would like an explanation on is what makes them different from the witches? I covered this in my post about the fairy-witch rivalry, but it bears repeating. If their magic is so different as to warrant different schools in such close proximity, what is the difference?
In universe, they say that fairies use "light magic" while witches use "dark magic" but in a world where there is a literal Fairy of The Sun (Stella) and Witch of Darkness (Darcy) there seems to be little sense in having light and dark magic be the distinction. And we already know how I feel about the Good vs. Evil dichotomy in this particular universe.
My solution is this: Fairies draw their powers from positivity and gain new abilities by overcoming hardships and sacrifice. It would fit in universe. That is canonically how they earn their Charmix and their Enchantix, after all. But drawing on positive emotions, memories, and experiences could be a reason why fairies are considered "good" and why witches consider them "weak". After all, it is difficult to draw on positivity when faced with hardship.
I have always had this doubt regarding the program. If a fairy has children from a specialist, would they have magic or not? I mean, I imagine that with respect to royalty, the son would have to have magic yes or yes, how does that work in your writing? or is it random?I don't know if I make myself understand
It is random. Magic can be inherited or skip multiple generations. Or appear out of nowhere. A fairy can have a non-magic kid, a witch, a warlock or a fairy. It’s usually fairy has either a fairy or a non-magic kid but if they’re with a wizard things can get a bit more complicated. Tbh, it’s pretty random so I don’t know if I explained it well.
My personal headcannons regarding the families goes as follows:
Bloom’s mom is a witch and her dad is a fairy. Daphne is a fairy.
Stella’s parents are both fairies.
Flora’s mom is non-magic, her biological dad is a fairy. (In my version, Mielle has no magic)
Musa’s mom was a fairy, her dad is non-magic.
Tecna’s whole family is non-magic, the last fairy in her family was her great-great-grandmother on her dad’s side. Neither of her siblings has magic.
Aisha’s mom is a witch and her dad is a warlock.
Sky’s parents are both non-magic.
Brandon’s parents are non-magic but his grandmother was a witch. None of his sisters have shown any magic abilities.
Helia’s parents are both non-magic, his grandfather is a wizard (Saladin).
Riven’s mom is a witch, his dad a wizard. His grandmother is a witch. His sister is also a witch.
Timmy’s mom is non-magic, his dad is a fairy. His brother in non-magic.
Nabu’s mom is a witch, his dad is a warlock.
Icy’s dad was a warlock, her mom a witch. Her uncle was a warlock.
Stormy’s parent’s are non-magic, her great-great-great grandmother was a witch.
Darcy’s dad is non-magic, her mom is a fairy. Her brother is also a fairy.
This is a summary for the recent Winx club Sona AU I made. If you want to check it out: here's the link to the post:
So as you already saw on my Winx Sirenix redesigns and what I mentioned in another post: I wanted to share more about my Winx Club Sona. Ho
So to summarize and some things to explain:
“Back in the old days, we used to see other fairies and heroes fighting side by side, because it didn't matter what level you were on. It didn't matter if you were just Magic Winx. They saved the universe because there are the places they loved so much. Saving the universe they did with teamwork and friendship. Not because they had obtained of a new glittery outfit. But with the power of their confidence and faith. And with the strength in their hearts. That’s the true magic!” -Anon
Magic Colors
I color-coded magic the magic only because that episode where Bloom seems auras. She can't do it in rewinxing btw. BUT TIMMY CAN, and Stella could.
Timmy can because he is a green magic user, Imean magic atuned user but not user per ser and his magic affinity is auras vision btw his glasses are both graduated and enchanted to protect his eyes to see TOO MUCH COLOR!!
Either way. In my first color-coded post. I said that blue was the color of magical non-users. Or against users who are simply alive, which in itself is a great magic. For the same reason, the color of Natural Magic for someone using Vision Aura is Indigo.
When the magic is "wrong" "incorrect" "unnatural" "mistaken" “aberrant” “off base” it looks purple, maybe turning red (which is the color of Ethereals)
People like Stella and Timmy and other light users are adept at seeing auras - if they wanted to develop that power - because they distinguish each tonality, and therefore each person or object.
