I’ve made a witchy jar candle with some old wax. The main colours I used to get this mix were black, grey, brown and some very dark blue. I poured the wax in layers bit by bit so I could put layers of herbs and spices between the wax. It’s got some sinkage at the top, which happens to me a lot with candles, but that’s alright. I also put a lot of herbs and stuff on top as well, so it’ll definitely have lots to burn! <|:^)

This is all from information I’ve gathered overtime and have recorded in an online document. The herbs I used in this candle are associated with Hades, Persephone, death, funeral and mourning practices (mostly ancient Greek) and embalming practices (pretty much all ancient Egyptian), as well as some for protection and rest. Here’s the stuff I used and their associations:  

☾ ***Note: These herbs also have so many more different and added meanings, these are just my personal intentions for what they represent in my candle (with reason and plenty of research, of course)*** ☽

Lavender- Rest, soothing, associated with Persephone

Mint- Associated with Hades, from the story of Minthe

Black Salt- Protection

Cinnamon- Has been used in embalming practices

Cloves- Used previously in embalming practices

Marigold (Seeds)- Associated with grief, mourning, funerals (language of flowers), represents the fragility of life

Cedar (Cones)- Has been used in embalming practices, purification, protection

Anise- Used for embalming

Bay- Associated with gods and those of high esteem, also just a good herb overall: protection, purification, wisdom, divination, clarity of mind, success, goals, abundance

Basil- Used in embalming practices, also a symbol of mourning

Parsely- Used in funeral services, associated with Persephone

Chamomile (Tea)- Rest, calming, soothing

Celery- Has been used in funerary rites

Pennies- For Hades, since he is the god of wealth as well as the dead (they’re at the bottom of the candle)
