#i am Very confused about the last names in the grishaverse#i mean i was confused in shadow and bone but now i'm REALLY confused#i was under the impression that russian last names have a different ending for male/female members of the family?#like alina starkova instead of alina starkov?#or aleksander morozov instead of morozova?#or nazyalenskaya instead of nazyalensky?#or something to that effect#i am also a bit confused about which cultures the shu han are inspired by because there seems to be inspiration drawn from china#but the last names and most of the names are not written in the chinese style#(like.... at all)#mayu is a japanese name i believe and neither tamar nor tolya are chinese names#i'm trying to figure out where she's drawn inspiration from and i am a little bit confused#i do like her worldbuilding and the cultures that she's created though. her world is very compelling#but i'm confused on two fronts: the how-far-does-the-real-life-influence-go and the and-what-about-the-non-ravkan-cultures#the ones that aren't based on one single real life country#because there's a strong russian influence in the ravkan culture#with slight changes#like kefta/kaftan (clothes)#and the naming customs#but for the other cultures there seems to be a range of influences#like the shu han but also the sulli and the zemeni#anyway this is going nowhere i just wanted to hash this out with myself#reading adventures
