1. we had an ongoing joke/hc in the server that like, some food courts on different space transit stations will sprinkle chemicals into their food that like... is harmless to humans but makes shapeshifters throw up. however ryan is deranged and LIKES the taste of it so he keeps going back for more in between frantic dashes to the nearest trash can/bathroom/potted houseplant

2. also we had another recurring joke that ryan got really into trashy paperback romance (its cheap, plus he gets bored when he and min are traveing and spending a lot of time waiting on spaceships/in terminal stations). he gets really into alien/human romances. yes this is before him and min get together

3. ryan's alien form is like... a combination of ghoms and Stewards. a humanoid face on a body of biometallic wires. most aliens can shapeshift freely and even pass as human but again, ryan sucks at it, he has to hide most of his body, and so in the first pics he's trying to hold his wires in the vague shape of a hand to avoid making min uncomfortable

“I like you,” Caleb announces out of the clear blue one fine night at the pub, and yeah sure they were all there to get drunk and be flirty but Caleb hadn’t actually taken a sip of anything yet and regardless his alcohol tolerance was super fucking high.

“Well thank you,” Molly purred back, his cheek resting light on the back of his fingers. “I quite like me too.”

“No, it’s different.” The human wasn’t even really looking at him, sky blue eyes just bounced back and forth between their respective hands and drinks.

“Different~ good? Different bad?”

“Different… different.”

Amazing, outstanding, he had such a way with words. “Well now you’ve got me interested,” Molly pressed.

“I like you… like a good book.” Caleb finally lands on the analogy and Molly bites his lip to suppress a giggle at how cute it all was. The human pushes aside his drink and pulls out his most recent purchase from the book store as a reference. “Sturdy,” he says knocking on the hard cover before thumbing gently across the paper. “But still soft. An enticing and detailed cover art but with worlds more to be unveiled inside.”

He opened the book to a random page and let his finger trail through the center fold, still not actually looking at Molly. “Something I can take my time with, something that… brings me peace and comfort… makes me feel less alone and even protected at times.” Pale freckled cheeks flushed with soft dusted pink as he finally looked to the other. “Plus you both smell nice.”

Mollys cheeks had gone from lavender to dark purple to straight up red in a matter of moments. Honestly he would have rather Caleb just told him his tits were fat. “I… well, um, thank you. I didn’t know you had such a way with words.”

Caleb shrugged and sipped his beer. “I was just stating facts I thought you ought to know.”

Thinking again about the soft and achingly gentle way Molly says, "Take care of him." How that was going to be the last thing he said to any of the Nein, his one request. Molly, who stayed through the night at Caleb's bedside, watching over him. Who wanted to be the first face he sees after watching a body burn, passing out while the flames still rage. Molly who just wanted to offer him some comfort, to keep him grounded--

The way Molly wished so badly he could stay. That he could keep taking care of his Magician too.

Could you imagine if that's the last thing he says before the Mighty Nein lose him again? If his last words are a plea to keep Caleb safe, to take care of him? How would that make Caleb feel--?
