a sick fuck indeed (affectionate) WRESTLEDREAM | 10.18.25
Okay on reflection and reading posts from the Darby Scholars on tumblr dot com, I'm totally on board with the ending to that I Quit match now. Actually that was a perfect ending for Mox and Darby, and Mox's character especially.
Mox has spent the past couple months and the past few matches talking extensively about how he loves Darby. He loves Darby enough to kill him, to take him out himself before he gets himself killed. He's the only one that cares about Darby, even as he tries to drown him.
And Mox's whole thing is that he's trying to make AEW stronger, right? He loves this place, and is trying to tear it down himself to make sure it's strong enough to survive.
Darby understands that. He also loves AEW, and wants it to survive. But he doesn't agree with how Mox is going about this. What does your love for this place mean if you're trying to destroy it, if you'll kill your brother in the process?
Mox, in usual fashion, tries to tear Darby down to teach him a lesson, to make him learn his limits so he'll be able to survive.
But then we have Sting, someone else who loves Darby. And Sting's love looks like defending Darby, passing him the bat, clearing the way for him. It's Sting's love that wins Darby the match, a love based on building and supporting rather than tearing down.
I think the point Darby has been trying to make is that it's not just love that matters, it's what you do with it. And Sting's intervention was a blatant example to Mox that his strategy will not prevail, that a love that supports and guides and has your back can do more for Darby (and thus for AEW) than a love like Mox's that can only tear down.
So yeah, Mox tapped to Darby using Sting's move. His whole life philosophy just got torn to shreds live on pay per view.
roman lost his match. seth got betrayed. mox said "i quit".
shield soulmaterism really is a serious shit, if one of them suffers, the others too. kinda romantic. but too angsty.
