Heads Up, Seven Up

“Armani, I heard something new about your mom,” Aaron told me at lunch, sitting a little too close to me on my bench. Chrys was out today, a fever or something, and Zarya and Monique went out again. 

“Since when have we been on a first name basis?” “Whatever—two things: the Emperor reopened the case to look for her.” “Fuckin’ coward.” “No shit. Probably too busy looking for his son to answer any hate mail.” I raised an eyebrow, finally looking up from my can of tea. “He’s lost his son?” “Oh yeah, been gone for a while. Since like, you and I have been alive, a while. Real broken up about it. Crocodile tears though, he’s just looking for an excuse not to do shit.” 

“Weird. What’s the other thing?” “The other day in a student staff meeting, the deadmaster wouldn’t shut up about her.” Of course fae were, fae were probably in kahoots with Zeyatu. “Yeah, fae mentioned talking to my mom on the phone a couple weeks back.” “Bullshit.” “I have been, though, which is creepy.” “Seriously?” Aaron leaned in. “If you get on another phone call with her, do it at my house so we can trace it.” “I’m not going anywhere near your house, Lythe.” Aaron wasn’t fazed. “What’s she been talking with you about? Or, whoever it is.” 

“Normal mom-out of town stuff. How’s school been, can you check on something in the lab, shit like that. She’s either ignoring that she’s been missing for a year or she’s got a gun to her head.” 

“Gun. Rathmorian Nobles love kidnapping people and getting ‘em to talk to their shitass scared family to get more information.” “How the hell do you know that?” Aaron grinned darkly. “They’re proud as hell of it. Like, ‘oh, look at me torturing some Senso single mom, aren’t I a hero?’” 

I clenched my fists. “How do I know she’s being forced to talk?” 

“Dunno. Maybe if she’s getting you to say stuff over the phone about yourself?” Aaron shrugged. “It’s a weird case, so I have no idea.”

Abidan

Race: Human

Age: 32

Appearance: Always painted in bruises and minor cuts. His hair is dark and tightly curled, he tries to keep it short. He has hazel blue green eyes and is almost sickly pale and thin. He's not the intimidating type, practically invisible in a crowd.

Power: As a human he has no true powers except for a nearly heavenly pure soul that seems to attract or pull out the worst in those around him; human, animal, demon.

Personality: Abidan has grown from an optimistic, if timid, child to a truly apathetic adult. He's seen the worst in everything around him. To deal with the trauma he's developed a very dry, self deprecating sense of humor. He still has hope for his life buried deep, deep down but he won't admit it out of fear that the worst will happen as soon as he does.

Relationships: Abidans parents gave him up for adoption, unable to handle the constant barrage of negativity and horror. His last foster/adoptive family had him for years but they weren't good people. Zee is his only companion. He knows his codependency on her isn't healthy but he needs her. Other humans soon tend to be corrupted around him - either by their own darkness or their demons influence. Sometimes out of Zee's jealous rage. Other demons tend to be inexplicably pulled to Abidan, with Zee expounding the situation until she stops it or a hospitalization is involved.

Idea: The idea of Abidan is to be an opposite to the female roles of a similar nature. He's the pure, inexperienced, codependent, awkward idiot. Unlike Zee he is completely underwhelming. No one picks him out of a crowd, he's not very attractive - just normal, antisocial. Except for his untainted light living within him.

Still no title but working on it. Sort of? Still trying to get character basics together. Just excited about making progress.

Genre(s) that you write: Pretty much anything as long as it (almost always) has a bit of romance in it. I primarily work in (so the genres of my fave/biggest WIPs are): contemporary, romance, sci-fi, urban fantasy, and fantasy. Pretty much every single WIP or idea has an undercurrent of LGBT+ themes. 

WIP: I have three...there’s my April NaNo about a girl who’s baby brother dies and she has to heal after that, there’s my new novella about a gay boy who’s summer lover transfers to his school but he’s not out yet, and there’s my new WIP about a young girl who’s raising her two-year-old son all on her own and hires a male nanny to help her (posting more about this one later).

Five things about me:

I have a crazy overactive imagination and usually this is more pain than it’s worth, and leads to much panic, anxiety, fear, and sleepless nights

If I had to choose between becoming a published author and being a mom (in the future), I’d choose being a mom

I want to travel all over the world and have a very long list of places I want to go to

I have a huge collection of receipt papers from work that I scribbled my writing all over at work over the last two years from every time I got an idea at work (that wording was awful but whatever)

I’m a huge procrastinator and also a perfectionist and I get stressed very easily and overthink EVERYTHING and I question my sanity all the time
