YOI Things to Love #72: Yurio cooking for Yakov and Lilia
I probably gushed about this back when the episode aired, and I know there were posts back then which talked at length just about this frame, so this isn’t exactly new. That doesn’t lessen how much I still love this scene a year later, which is why I needed to make it a YOI Things to Love post.
Things that are so perfect here:
Yakov’s hesitant bite like he’s biting into a rock
Yakov’s entire body posture
those are some tense shoulders there
he’s holding the pirozhki with both hands like he’s trying to be careful about this adventuresome food
the sweat drop on his face
it feels like Yakov agreeing to go along with this teen’s recipe attempts (concoctions) will result in him losing more hair
Pyotya reaching for a pirozhki
Yurio still wearing his apron like he couldn’t wait long enough to take it off before serving the food
Yurio covered in flour
Yurio tied up his hair to cook... but it’s only half up. So I’m not sure how much that actually helps.
it makes him look adorable
maybe he likes wearing his hair in that style even outside of practice
Yurio’s arms spread like he’s doing a big reveal
The light blush on Yurio’s face and his big smile
Lilia’s skeptical look and sweat drop on her face
yes, Lilia, pirozhki can be made with pork cutlet, rice, and egg too.
Lilia has such a nice straight back
no hunched shoulders and timidness there
she’s going into this with dignity
her training is so ingrained that she probably never slouches
It’s such a nice domestic scene and shows us that the relationship between Yurio, Yakov, and Lilia extends beyond a coach/choreographer/student relationship. It’s a guardian/minor relationship, and we’re seeing how warm their interactions can be.

I've watched YOI with the english dub for the first time I HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED. Sorry jap dub, still love you, but Victor with russian accent wins everything. (BUT apart from Victor, Yurio, Chris and JJ I still prefer the japanese version) *keep in mind that I'm neither english nor japanese (I'm Italian), so I don't know how does the original treat the accents, even though I can surely appreciate the english version of them **JAP DUB I STILL LOVE YOU THOUGH
