The Land of the Dead ~ A boundary between the realms inhabited by the living and the dead

Izanagi-no-Mikoto (♂) went to Hades to meet his wife, Izanami-no-Mikoto (♀). 

And when Izanami-no-mikoto greeted him behind the closed doors of the palace, he said nostalgically, "My dear wife, the country you and I have built together is not yet complete. Please come back to me.”

Hearing this, Isanami-no-Mikoto replied: "What a pity! You did not come at once. I have already eaten the food of Hades, and I cannot go out from here anymore. But I want to return to earth somehow, so I will go and talk to the god who rules here. But please don't look at me.”

Izanami didn't come back for some time. Izanagi couldn’t wait and he broke off one of the teeth of his sacred comb, which he wore in his left hair-bunch (mizura, a male hairstyle), lit a fire, and went inside.

Well, the body of Izanami-no-mikoto was covered with maggots, a great thunderbolt on her head, a thunderbolt of fire on her breast, a black thunderbolt on her belly, an averted thunderbolt on her vulva, a young thunderbolt on her left hand, an earthen thunderbolt on her right hand, a crying thunderbolt on her left foot, a prostrate thunderbolt on her right foot, and on her right foot was a prostrate thunderbolt. In total, eight different types of lightning emerged from the body of Izanami-no-mikoto. 黄泉の国

~ 生者と死者の住む領域の境界場所

伊邪那岐命（いざなぎのみこと♂）は、妻の伊邪那美命(いざなみのみこと♀)に会うため黄泉の国へ行った。

そして、御殿の閉まった戸の向こう側に伊邪那美命(いざなみのみこと)が出迎えたとき、懐かしそうに「愛しい妻よ。わしとお前が一緒につくった国はまだ完成していない。だからどうか戻ってくれ」と言った。

それを聞いた伊邪那美命(いざなみのみこと)は答えた。「残念ですわ。あなたはすぐにいらっしゃらなかった。わたしは、もう、黄泉の国の食べ物を食べてしまいました。もうここから出ることはできません。でも、なんとかして地上に帰りたいと思いますので、ここを支配する神に談判してきます。但し、わたしの姿を見ないでください。」

いつまで待っても出てこないので、待ちかねた伊邪那岐命（いざなぎのみこと）は、角髪（みずら）に結った髪にさしていた神聖な櫛の歯を一つ折って、火を灯して中に入って行った。

これはこれは、伊邪那美命(いざなみのみこと)の身体には、蛆がコロコロ集まり、頭には大きな雷、胸には火の雷、腹には黒い雷、女陰には避けた雷、左の手には若い雷、右の手には土の雷、左の足には鳴いている雷、右の足には伏している雷、合わせて8種類の雷が、身体から出現していたのである。（続く）

The ship name for Hirako and Yomo could literally be ‘Homo’ but none of you want me to be happy.

I really enjoy the relationship progression between Yomo and Hirako.

I'm so proud of Yomo and how he was able to call Hirako by a nickname without running away this time. It makes me happy to see that they are actually beginning to be pretty comfortable with one another.

Especially when you think about their first meeting and how it essentially consisted of a Hirako-Arima double attack on the raging ukaku ghoul:

before Irimi and Yoshimura swooped in to help.

It makes me so glad that they were able to have their little chat about Arima and Hikari in :re 101 and settle their differences and work to move forward

hc where, once the wedding party has finally dies down, the squad 0 kids start yelling for hirako.

“Hurry! Hurry!!!!!!”

hirako breaks into a fucking sprint. he expects — I don’t know — blood. guts. a surprise attack. a ghoul neatly halved, somehow, maybe. the point is that evisceration is less surprising than what he actually finds, which is yomo, weeping helplessly on the floor of his cell.

“He’s been like that for thirty-eight minutes.”

“It’s incredible.”

“I don’t think....he’ll ever stop....”

“Water,” hirako tells them, and when they blink up at him in shock, he repeats it: “Water. Go. As much as possible.”

they flee. it’ll take them a good while, probably; during the party he was almost positive there was no liquid available at all except for the mysteriously procured — beverage — that he suspects is the cause of yomo’s misery.

Oh, hirako realizes, when he attempts to get yomo off the ground and is immediately grabbed and babbled into. most of these words are moving much too quickly for him to comfortably comprehend, except for one, which is repeated over and over: “Happy...happy....happy...so happy. I’m so happy.”

Not misery.

touka. the wedding. beautiful touka, handsome ken, married, happy, happy, happy, so beautiful ken handsome touka. yomo thrashes and hirako dodges a fierce kick that turns out to actually be part of a very slumpy mambo. hirako wheezes and clutches yomo and tries to drag him to his feet and yomo’s leg collapses unexpectedly and this turns out to also be an attempted mambo. yomo swings him around and hirako’s shoulder hits the wall. this, too, might be mambo.

“Okay,” hirako says. “Alright.”

“You don’t understand,” are a few of the many words yomo says in response. “You see, I had once had this thought to myself and yet never imagined that it would come to fruition, the seeds that I planted, well, the seeds that my sister planted, that is —”

the sister, hirako realizes some ten minutes later, who is touka’s mother. the tears come up again, and this time hirako understands they are perhaps only partially joyful. hirako dips yomo to the floor and yomo reaches it relatively safely, and allows himself to be maneuvered such that he leans against his cot. the whole time, he keeps talking. for a while, he talks even faster and faster and faster. eventually, he starts to slow.

when squad 0 returns, it’s with a triplet of sloshing pitchers. 

“Sorry,” shio says. “We couldn’t find water so we tried to ask Haise or the Manager but they were —”

“Busy,” yusa interrupts, curtly. “They were busy.”

“It’s fine,” hirako tells them. “Just leave them here, within reach.”

in their panic, one of the pitchers lost almost all of its water, and this one hirako empties, in case yomo needs to use it for...a...receptacle in the morning.

“Hirako-san,” rikai says. “Would you like help?”

yomo’s head is lodged firmly against hirako’s shoulder, right beneath hirako’s chin. he’s sleeping, heavily, which hirako knows because yomo’s body had made the telltale twitches of falling into sleep, which at first had felt one last, desperate mambo.

“It’s alright,” hirako tells them, quietly, so as not to wake yomo up. “Go on ahead. I’m fine.”
