Second Week Truths and Doubts

Hello everyone! I hope you've had an okay week and if you haven't thats okay, you at least made it to the weekend. I've come back to check in with Week 2 of Year 13 and essentially rant about life.

Relationships - This week was rough. Although there weren't any big changes to my relationship, or changes that I necessarily needed to share on the entertainment, I did a lot of reflections. I had to ask myself what I was offering in every relationship I'm in, since I've been developing an odd sense of reality recently- more on that later. There were 3 things I found I did but really disliked: harmul self-loathing speech, dependancy and detatchment. My main issue was number one because a lot of the time I make self-depreciating jokes and I've only just started to realise that it can have a bad effect on those arounnd me because its not nice hearing someone you love consistently say such things.

Work and study - The work has been piling on and I'm started to get a little exhausted with keeping up. At week 2 that shouldn't really be happening, but I guess I could put it up to having an early schedule and I don't know ... going to a school 5 days a week during a pandemic. I've been starting to face my deep anxieties and began looking for a job, since everyone I know has been forcing it on me and making me feel like a lazy oaf. My use of free periods also needs discipline but I guess its not essential

Future thinking - University is very closely approaching and I think I'm on track to having a successful application.If you didn't know, my dream is to study Interior Design and persue a job in a city firm. My 5 choices at the moment are UAL, Middlesex London, UCA Canturbury, London Met and Bristol UWE. I have monthly doubts that I'm good enough for the industry but I make sure that I don't limit myself. Also, random note but I'm gonna relearn Chinese :)

Mental helath - I've definitley been struggling more than I let on and have not opened up unless I was telling a joke ... oops. However, this weeks amazing saving grace was The Black Flamingo by David Atta. One of my biggest changes to make into the new academic year was finding an axtual hobby that wasn't online. My school has a reservation system because of COVID and I took the oppertunity to find new books. I managed to finish it in a day and I totally loved it consuming my free time.

Weekly Epic Manifestation - This week I'm gonna manifest more confidence in my realtionships with teachers. I've been struggeling to even look them in the eye and I've done my fair share of ruminating over class contributions. I will conquer my negative thoughts and interact with my teachers more. This is the last time I'll be able to just go see a teacher so freely.

It's been a year since I started to support the charity YoungMinds, which has personally been one of my favourite things that I have ever done. I mean this is what I'm talking about, right? Like, videos on my channel and being creative, I feel like the Daniel and Depression video when I think about my life, like if I died tomorrow, what would I have been like: I'm happy, like this made me happy that I did this thing. It was that. You know what I man? Probably the most. And YoungMinds their whole thing this year, it's their 25th anniversary and when they raise money for stuff it goes directly into pressuring the government to make more services for young people's mental health issues or creating really amazing short films that things or whatever and it's just really good. And I was thinking, basically, you know when we were on tour we had a lot of talking to you guys, seeing a lot of you and one thing when people were talking to me about videos that meant a lot to them, they were talking about Daniel and Depression video, obviously, they were talking about videos that were really fun but a lot of people were saying, going all the way back, to the Existential crisis video and The meaning of life video that probably my best quote when I said: Embrace the void and have the courage to exist. Which is funny because I have a hard time being sincere because I'm scared of all the cynicism in the world and for me it's like showing vulnerability to be sincere and just I'm scared. But if we're being real, it's not a soppy quote, it's very real. You know what I mean? Going back to what that video was talking about, it's saying like: If there is no meaning to life because there are no big answers out there in the universe and therefore everything is pointless, then you get to define your own existence. And whatever brings you happiness that's your defining your own meaning and that's some real shit right there. You know what I mean? Ever since basically 2013, I was like there should be something Dan merch that has this quote, because that would be good right? But the time never came and then obviously I finally did Dan shop like four years later, this year or whatever, and then we went on tour. And then all these people were like: I have it tattooed on my arm; I've written it somewhere on my wall and it's a really good thing. And I was like, you know what? This is really good. So I've decided for tomorrow, for World Mental Health Day, I am going to be releasing some new Dan merch, which says HAVE THE COURAGE TO EXIST and all of the proceeds will go to YoungMinds, which I feel like is a really good idea.

Going through my school journey a few years back I was conditioned to believe that university would be the only way forward to succeed. When it got to A-levels I decided I wanted to pursue something different at Uni... something creative and full of exciting things and once more my teachers decided to cut away at my individuality and push me to something academic. I became unhappy and anxiety ridden about what I could do at Uni that I would both love and excel at. The time was counting down and I could feel the teachers pressure pushing down upon my shoulders. After taking my exams I decided to drop uni before it even began, I wanted to know what I wanted to do over what they wanted. I was scrutinised by EVERYONE! But after a few long months I found an entry level job that I would love, I applied and got the position as a receptionist. As soon as I joined I carried on studying at the desk, helping out others in their roles and becoming actively involved within the company and now I've got ANOTHER position, higher up and in something I love. It's still a junior role but it will lead onto bigger and better things. I just want everyone doing a-levels and GCSE's that you should choose the path for you. I failed my A-levels and my GCSE maths and yet here I am doing something I love, through my persistence, attitude and hard work. At 19 I earn more than my friends, those at uni want to drop out or are unhappy because they didn't want to go in the first place. I urge you to do what you want, if that's an apprenticeship, internship, a job or University, as long as your happy that's what matters.
