A pornbot stole my actual RL name for its blog title, because this information was scattered around in my tumblr. It found my first and middle name, which create an extremely rare combination that I don’t believe for a damn minute was randomly generated.

They’re also taking people’s selfies for camgirl ads and the like. Fortunately I don’t have any up. If I had, I have no doubt they’d be scattered all over a porn blog that also had part of my REAL NAME attached to it. Now think about what happens if someone googles your name for employment purposes, and they come up with not just a porn blog full of camgirl ads, but also pictures that are clearly you.

If you can get into your followers list (I can’t–it shows me less than 25% of my follower count and that’s all, no idea how to fix it) then block any pornbots and spambots. More importantly, whether you have had any problems yet or not, every user reading this needs to get your butt into your post history and yank the selfies, along with any other identifying information.

Because in order to stay safe on Tumblr, a social network, you apparently need to never use it like a social network.

@staff Many of your users are minors. Their images are being used to promote pornography and scams due to abuse of your platform. The situation leaves you with an obvious ethical burden to act–not to mention, wide open to some very harsh litigation and even harsher press. I do not think it’s unreasonable to expect prompt improvement.

(YES, Let’s BAN ALL PORNOGRAPHY yet allow the now SFW bots display minors and random people to advertise. Yeah, this is some serious crap, considering that an employer will in fact drop candidacy for this kind of thing - which then becomes ON TUMBLR for legal action because of abuse of its platform. Facebook had a similar issue, but actually handled it correctly, and now you have to buy the information from Facebook - hence why I no longer bother with it!

Meanwhile we can’t have NIPPLES on our blogs, but porn bots and nazis and for fuck’s sake PEDOPHILES (which may or may not be porn bots displaying minors now) RUN RAMPANT HERE.

@staff @support IS THIS REALLY WHAT YOU INTENDED? How about you clean up the ACTUAL PROBLEMS?)
