Hey so the work that goes into making a realistic mask is actually very complex meaning Kuroha needs access to (probably) Silicon because latex wasn't a thing until the 1900s oh yeah and most realistic masks are molded off a clay sculpture of a face meaning she either goes around making casts of random peoples faces or is some savant when it comes to sculpting

on top of that making the mask look actual realistic would take heavy paint work to making things like skin look real and y/know alive (meaning she probably has a collection of some kind of paints and makeups to do the job) and the hair would need to be sewn into it single strand at the time for realism's sake

so basically what im saying is Kuroha utilizes several skills to make these masks, skills that could profitable on their own but she just decides to use them to get a magic pair of shoes (and fails in doing so)

“Well, why didn’t you say so?!” He’s so excited, he doesn’t even register the alcohol on the wound (not that it did much anyways on top of the pain already there).

“He and I go way back.” Iriya reaches his free hand up to gesture to the bandage over his eye. “I owe him for this. And there’ll be no need for payment. I’m certain I hate him even more than you. More than anything, I want him dead.”

He reaches for the paper and looks at his friend’s face on the page. Oh, this stupid walking disguise. How dare she threaten Azako in his presence. He should kill her right here. But he won’t. Not if she knows where Azako is. Not if she can take him there.

The bottle has the stopper put back in it and its tossed aside as she uses the stolen knife to stripping one of their cloths into extra bandages. Sure they had some rolls, but certainly not enough to cover what seemed to be a majority of this guy’s body.

So he was causing more trouble was he? Was his sole goal to mess up other itsuwaribito’s best laid plans? hmm. that would get him killed rather quickly, just like those before him that pulled similar stunts (especially considering his own group seemed to be rather lack luster, he was obviously new.)

“So you go way back? From observation he’s lots of talk, definitely not the strongest.” like she’s one to talk, but at least she made up for her lack of physical strength by going out of her way to have people in her employ that could make up for that deficiency.

“There’s no new news on his location yet, but it’s barley been a week since it happened, so he can’t have gone far. I have my men scouting that out.” and by my men she meant Chouza and Saiha, Uzume can;t keep himself hidden. “ If we can corner him alone It’s the end of him.” She tosses the strips at him to start patching himself up.

“I need to know more before I consider agreeing.” He growls ever so slightly at the person. She’s already helping, so she just lost any leverage she might have had over him.

He’s mostly glaring at her, ready to gut he through the costume if he senses anything off-beat, but a glance eventually takes his eyes to the paper. “Is that him?”

“It is. Ruined a plan we had in motion for months.” even talking about it causes her anger to flare and she douses the open, infected wound with alcohol without warning. “A new itsuwaribito, thinks he’s some hot shit, spent the entire time mocking us.” she wanted him dead, but also didnt want to admit she had been outsmarted.

He follows, only because he knows that the blade this person took from him was far from the last one on him. He could easily handle any ambush. While they walk, he keeps his eyes scanning the trees.

When she gestures, he remains standing.

“And what makes you think I’d wanna help you?”

“I’m saving your arm from amputation? On top of that, for results I can pay, so long as this thorn in my side is rid of.” even if he remains standing she pulls out a bottle of sake and pulls the stopper out. “Give me that arm.” they will start there, however, in the basket of items she had brought out there was a drawing of Utsuho, like a mock wanted poster.

Something they were thinking of trying to get him out of hiding.

He nods along to the list, though he grows more suspicious as it proceeds. Especially when she uses the word ‘we’. If this was a rival group, he should at least alert some of his bandits before going in. Not that he didn’t think he could take them, of course. But he’d rather let them do the work while he’s still in recovery.

Then the person asks that question. The kind that is only really asked when the answer is already assumed to be yes. “What if I am?”

“People like us working together is not uncommon.” she proposes as she starts to lead this man back to their cottage. Itsuwaribito or not, one young boy could easily be handled by chouza and Uzume should things get out of hand.

“You see, there is someone who’d been giving me trouble.” she points to a rock as if instructing him to sit as she went to gather the supplies. “Perhaps we can work together, and bring him down.”

He’s quiet while he looks over the strange individual who had approached him. There’s something off about their appearance and it doesn’t take too long for him to figure out that the reason is that it’s not really their appearance; it’s a disguise. A well-made one, at that. Iriya is almost jealous of the skill it must have required; working with mindless bandit goons has its downsides.

But there’s something else odd. He doesn’t usually get people offering to help him unless he’s putting on his usual show and manipulating them into it.

“‘Things’?” He speaks slowly, repeating the word. “What sort of ‘things’?” He has yet to decide if he’s willing to follow this stranger into the woods.

“what things?” was he daft or suspicious? the latter she could relate too. “Alcohol to sterilize, some burn cream, lots of fabric we can fashion into bandages.” granted all of this was stolen from the mansion, they had stock piled resources during their ruse for the eventual getaway, meaning the cottage they had been staying in was still stocked for another few weeks, at least.

“You’re an itsuwaribito, arent you?” it was best to get that in the open early.

Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!

He’s sitting on a rock by a river with a knife in hand, using it to scrape at a severely discolored and oozing patch his arm. How many times has this damn infection come back now? If his arm wasn’t so useful for fighting, he’s sure he would have just cut it off completely by now.

He pauses his actions when he hears footsteps coming up behind him. His grip on the knife tightens for an instant, before he spins around and hurtles it at the sound. Well, just to the right of the sound. Just a warning shot. For now.

To be honest, she expected some sort of attack. People like this were like cornered or caged animals, Uzume had been the same, and had the situation gone different she easily could have had her spine snapped in two by that man.

The knife flies past her and sticks into the bark of a tree. Kuroha grabs it free and walks slowly toward the man.

“Scraping at it isn’t going to fix it. It’s just going to worsen the infection.” for now she keeps his knife out of reach. “We have things to treat that,” and by his knife throwing skills, perhaps he had skill she wanted to use. (plus one doesn't end up burned in this way then trying to treat their own wounds because they were caught in a house fire).

“If you want to come back with me, that is.”

“....” this girl was really just eating her arm. Her fucking arm. She had seen some weird shit, like really weird shit in her time traveling with Chouza and Uzume, but honestly this was in her top 5.

“So, is this normal for you?”

“Well that’s to be expected. We need it. Cuz otherwise I’d probably have already killed Uzume and Saiha’d have already killed himself.”

“Alcohol stops you from that stuff? Hmm.” she holds a cup up for him to fill “I though it just made you talk about god knows what until the sun came up.”

He looks at the bottle. “Where’d this come from? I though Saiha and I finished the last bottle yesterday.”

“You did. I spent the morning nursing his hangover.” she huffs and takes a seat next to him pulling a set of cups out for them. “You two go through a ton of alcohol.”
