FUCK "YOUR" PHONE, ARE YOU BECOMING SHAPED LIKE A CHAIR?
We have all heard or have been told here and there, that being addicted to your mobile device is a real thing. How true is this? Are YOU addicted?
I'm not sure on all the science, people all over the internet understand and misuse the term dopamine in their own ways. But I do know this, unplugging and using your phone less definitely has its benefits. I'm not here on some hippie rant to tell you to shut off all your devices cold turkey styles. But rather take a step back, be mindful about your usage, and understand how you TRULY use your mobile devices. Technology is very helpful, but too much (like most things) could be harmful.
These days we are growing with lower self-esteem. Engagement with social media and our cell phones might be taking over our life.
When you phone goes off, does it feel good? Do you count your "likes"? Do you BUY them? Do you go back 10x to see who has "viewed" your story?
People who spend more time on social media have a higher rate of depression than those who don't. There is nothing wrong with social media and mobile devices, it’s the TOO MUCH part that starts to impact us in a negative way.
When you are out socializing or hanging out, are you texting someone who isn't there?
If you are waiting or sitting for a meeting, do you sit your cell phone on the table and look down at it every so often?
Do you wake up and check your device first thing, before you even acknowledge your significant other?
Do you charge your device by you when you sleep? Charge it in the family room. Oh, but you use it as an alarm? Buy an alarm clock!
Remove the temptation.
If you don't have the distraction of your device, you just enjoy the life. This is when creation happens.
With as much as we sit, and very little movement creativity, many of us don't have a creative outlet at all. The typical day consists of boring (low intensity) work with slightly less boring entertainment.
This "entertainment" could include watching TV and scrolling media. Pretty much when you don't move and just watch. If that's what you are in to, that is all you. You are free to choose what you want to do, but if that's everything, you’re just consuming, and not being creative.
In the absence of movement, our adapting stimulus declines.
Some side effects of ONLY consuming can be feeling of self-doubt, lack of fulfillment, and decline of physical activities.
When you stop creating, you start dying - or maybe you're already dead. But you can bounce back from this, start moving a bit more each day. Get rid of some chairs and couches in your home. You will be just fine without them. Physiology is optimized when you are stressed. When you don't get that exchange, or a continual state of stress (physically), those things die away.
I feel like we are becoming couch-shaped figures. I completely forgot why I wrote that on the header, but anyway... When you experience an adaptation, YOU change. Not just your thoughts, not just your vessel- the whole package. Yes, your 30 minutes of intense exercise is great, but your health can improve and benefit much more from getting nutritious movement throughout the entire day.
