I think it'd be really funny if Luca had, like, a sort of intimidating boyfriend. Like, a 25 year old tattooed metalhead with a resting bitchface and a krallice shirt. He may or may not pick Luca up from a practice on a motorcycle. The rookies are sort of scared to talk to him. Ilya is fighting the urge to ask him what his intentions are with luca. Harris is the only one who chats with him because a case of RBF has never stopped him before.

I see posts where hockey players see Shane and Ilya being gay and it makes them realise things about themselves sexually. And sure, that can be harmless and fun. But I also think there might be a really dark side to this where players start to process that some of the 'hazing' they went through was actually sexual assault.

Players thinking things like: 'when I got stripped naked by my Junior Hockey team, maybe that wasn't okay actually' (happened most famously to Wayne Gretzky, but to many many other players too.) Junior hockey, especially in the era Shane and Ilya grew up in, was absolutely rampant with that kind of shit, and it still happens, there was a hockey hazing assault case this year, in 2026.

I think seeing Shane and Ilya together challenges this idea of 'it's not sexual because it's hockey and hockey can't be gay' and it really fucks with some players heads. I think they accidently send a bunch of people to therapy.

its.... okay if someone who isn't fat or a bear is cast as harris drover.... he's only described as "non-athletic" and "soft" in the book.... thats encapsulates a lot of different body types.... i would just really really like some body diversity in the gay hockey show.... PLEASE.... its okay its okay I'm chill its fine.... YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY.... you don't have to take it.... prioritize highlighting young canadian talent....

A few years into Shane playing for Ottawa, one of the younger Centaurs, maybe Holmberg, comes to him with a problem. He has been sleeping with this girl for a while now and he's so into her but she travels for work and he knows she has a couple of regular hookups all over the place. So, since Shane - judging by Cap's reputation - has been in a similar position, he asks him how he convinced Roz to be exclusive.

Shane stares at him, uncomprehendingly, for a second before slowly replying, "...I didn't."

Holmberg gives him a deeply skeptical look. "I've seen the way you react when people flirt with Roz in front of you," he says, "there's no way you guys have an open relationship."

"No," Shane clarifies immediately. He would rather set himself on fire than have to live with sharing his husband with another person. "No, we're exclusive," he confirms, "but I never asked him to stop sleeping with other people. He just kind of... stopped. I didn't even find out until a few months after it happened so, I don't know, maybe just wait it out?"

Eventually, the Centaurs learn that, although Cap and Hollzy have clearly found in each other what most people spend their lives searching for, they are the absolute worst people to ask for any type of relationship advice.

While I have no proof, I fully believe that the Metros heard that Shane was dating Rose Landry and went ohhhh. Rose is Lily. That makes sense, two flower names. A secret name for his secret celebrity girlfriend.

Following this, a lot of them (because stupid) continue to believe that Rose was Lily even after Shane and Ilya are outed. And this little rumor spreads, because hockey players are a bunch of gossipers who are very excited to jump on the narrative of Shane cheating on Hollywood darling Rose Landry with evil bisexual Ilya to vilify him.

Ilya hates it, but Shane just finds it a little funny. He's passed giving a fuck what other people think of his private life. Sometimes he even jokingly calls Rose 'Lily' to get a rise out of Ilya.

This, of course, backfires majorly when Ilya shares that a concerningly large portion of the Raiders believed (and probably still do) that 'Jane' is Sveta's 'English name'.

After that, Shane puts out a very polite but firm social media post about how difficult it is for closeted queer people and shares a (completely random) anecdote about having to use the fake names of Jane/Lily throughout their early years with a link to help resources at the Irina Foundation.
