i love how Flanner is such an unlikable & forgettable character that she only ever shows up on tumblr during April Fools’ and the joke is always about someone giving a single shit about her
I’m really excited for this movie! My French is bad but I have the subscription to the Spirou magazine and I will try to translate this interview from the latest issue!
It’s an interview of the director and writer of the movie, Alexandre Coffre as well as some photos from the set.

Interviewer: I hear this has been a dream project for you for some time!
Alexandre Coffre: Yes, but it’s Spirou et Fantasio, who wouldn’t excited to be able to bring them to the big screen?
I: Spirou and Fantasio are both iconic figures of BD. It must have been a challenge to translate to screen.
AC: Exactly! Everyone will have their own view of what these characters should be! But I believe we have achieved something that will make most fans happy. I have been talking to people who wrote for the comic and they love it.
I: And the actors! What has it been to work with them?
AC: Ramzy Bedia who plays Zorglub is a joy to work with. He is generally known for humorous roles but this project really makes him test his range.
I: Oh? There will be more dramatic elements to this story?
AC: Oh yes. Part of what fascinates me in Zorglub is how he has lot of depth. He isn’t just a cartoony bad guy and won’t be just a villain... There might even be some romance!
I: Interesting! And what about our hero, played by Thomas Solivérès?
AC: Hehe. I think you will be surprised. He won’t be the only Spirou in the movie.
I: Ooh? Will we be seeing Petit Spirou in the movie?
AC: Not quite... Let’s just say Patrice Bouchard will be getting a role.
(Translator’s note: this is him, he’s a popular tv actor in Belgium)
I: Oh, so shall we see some time travel here? Older Spirou?
AC: Oh yes. This will be an adaptation of one of the most beloved albums. When we first started to talk about this movie project, we threw some ideas around. What would work as a movie? What truly celebrates the history and legacy of Spirou et Fantasio, while also injecting the franchise with some revolutionary new ideas? No matter what we wrote it came back to the fact that the perfect story already existed, we just needed to film it.
I: So it is true! The fans will finally see a live action adaptation of Aux sources du Z?
AC: Indeed! And there will be an another fan favourite included in the plot... we just cast her and start filming her scenes in April. I am excited to work with the great Flemish actress Blaire Van Valkenburgh.
AC: I think most true fans can already guess who she will play... I always loved how Morvan and Munuera approached the issue of giving your hero a love interest.
When you introduce a love interest to an established character, you so easily risk it not feeling natural. But what M&M did was perfect: they give you just enough and invite you to fill in the blanks, so you can create the perfect romance in your head. We see where they start out, and where they end up. I really think this kind of way of writing, where you tell the story with the absense of story, was something revolutionary.
I: I think we can all agree with that! I’m sure all our readers will be looking forwards to this movie even more now! It will be out in 2018, look forward to it!
Here in this vid they talk about how this movie is Spirou and Fantaiso’s first adventure, how they wanted to explore the moment those two met and how they became who they are now days. They also said they wanted to maintain the unrealistic element of the comic, like writing Zorglub as a silly, eccentric villian. They also keep mentioning how great and timeless the comic itself is, everyone, even the guys playing Spirou and Fantaiso seem to really admire the comic! And they all seem to be having lots of fun filming this! I couldn’t be more happy, this is looking great so far.
Apparently there’s an episode of the Nineties series where FANTASIO gets to wear a kilt this time. We now have a complete set.
Tbh I think Fanta wears it better. It looks so perfect with his normal clothes, and he has the little matching beret to go with his suit. It’s just so cute!
