As Edgar helped him pick up the books, Ted thanked him, scurrying to get most of them himself. “Oh, I’m sure she’d try, but sadly I’m a bit of a lost cause when it comes to being healed of my delusions. I thought you’d know that by now.” He laughed. “I was studying – a job at the Ministry isn’t just going to drop right into my lap. If I want to do well for myself, I’ve got to work twice as hard as I did last year.”

He laughed with Ted, “Don’t say that too loud, lost causes get locked up in the Magical Maladies wing at St. Mungos.” He straightened with the few books he had managed to pick up before Ted. Weighing the heavier ones in his hands he asked, “Do you plan to read all of these tonight? You know, you don’t have to check out all the books you’re going to need for the year, the library will still have it next month.”

she watched and laughed as he tried to rub the blush away, only making it worse. was this really the boy who had a reputation as a casanova? but then he was talking about that damn frog again and she was slightly irked. “you tricked me —into holding this  WET frog.” she was remaining calm, not moving a muscle and keeping her eyes on his to avoid the image of a damp frog in her hand.

“Toad,” he corrected with an amused smile. He held her gaze as he grabbed her free hand to place it over the creature to help her get a firm grasp. “Now he’s going to jump if you don’t relax, and then how will I ever show you the secret of making it croak at just the right pitch?”

“Are you telling me that all Hufflepuffs are bullies and that’s why you don’t enjoy any of their company?”

“Nope, but it really brings out the paleness in your legs.” Molly replied, struggling to hold back a laugh. “Are you going to turn up like this to all the games, or is this just a special show for the first of the year?”

“You’re right, I should have gotten a spray tan,” he mused jokingly, looking down at his pale legs. “Nope, it’s a special occasion, a ‘one night only’ performance. Believe me, I will never put on this outfit again. It’s okay, you can laugh, it’s more awkward if you don’t honestly.”

Emma was always excited to go to a Quidditch match – but today there was just a little more to look forward to. Edgar Bones was going to be cheering – and thanks to Emma (and her skillful victory over Edgar in their scrimmage match), he was going to be wearing a Muggle cheerleading outfit. As she walked up to the pitch, she saw him, and her jaw dropped. “Oh, trust me. You look incredible. Why don’t you dress like this for every match?”

“Not a fat chance in ever getting me in this uniform again,” he grumbled good naturedly. The match had been close, but fair, so he wouldn’t even joke about claiming that she had cheated her way into victory. “Next time it’ll be you making a fool out of yourself,” he promised. "By the way, are these a gift from you?” he asked bopping her on the head with a pom pom. They had mysteriously shown up on his bed last night with a note that simply said 'knock ‘em dead’.

Flora loved Quidditch. She loved watching it and she loved playing it, but something was stopping her from trying out to be on the team - it scared her, she thought that she wasn’t good enough, even though she was. So the girl had to settle for being a spectator. As she was heading for the pitch, a surprising and amusing sight caught her eye. Coming to a halt, she shoved her gloved hands into her pocket and rocked back and forth on her feet. “Would you like me to be honest, or beat around the butch?” She asked, completely unaware that what she had said made no sense at all. 

“Well, if we’re being honest, I believe the phrase is ‘beat around the bush’, but it sounds lovely either way in your accent, Flora,” he couldn’t help the flirting, even when feeling so awkward in a skirt. “But honesty is best, even though I know this outfit is just so not my colour.” Honestly green wasn’t a bad colour, but he would claim any of the house’s primary colour (besides Hufflepuff’s) would be a bad colour on him.

                    ❝ yeah but then you’d get a foul, bones, not really supposed to destroy the other teams chasers just make them drop the quaffle ❞ she teased with laughter like bells, her worries escaping her. ❝ only if you drink for every outstanding i got ❞ she proposed, grasping the bottle by the neck ❝ cos’ we’ll be pretty much neck for neck then! ❞ she’d worked hard for every owl she got, at least now she might be around someone who’d appreciate it.

“Oh, right you are. My bad, I’ll try to remember that for our next match,” he joking chided himself as he dropped back into the grass next to her. He looked at her with an intrigued expression, “Okay, deal. So how many did ya get? OWLs and Outstandings? Five? Seven? Ten?” Merlin, they were in for a dangerous night if he had to take ten swigs of fire whiskey in quick succession.

While Dorcas certainly hadn’t expected to stop down from the dorm to see Edgar in a skirt of all things.  It definitely wasn’t one of the weirdest things that she was probably going to end up seeing in the common room but it likely would rank, that was for sure. Still, a laugh escaped her lips and she shook her head at the question he gave, “Well, you know, it isn’t the absolute worst look on you,” 

Honestly, he was glad everyone was laughing, it didn’t feel like they were laughing at him as him, but more so with him. “Huh, you think so? Well take a good look at all this glory, because I am burning this outfit after tonight,” he claimed, but struck a pose as if he was giving Dorcas an opportunity to take a picture.

It was the first big Quidditch game of the season, and neither Hufflepuff nor Slytherin were facing. That meant the deal with Emma Vanity was in effect, and as promised he had obtained a cheer leading uniform from Madam Malkin’s. Unfortunately, she hadn’t made the male version that he had expected, oh no, Edgar was in a skirt. He begrudgingly took the pom poms handed to him, and laughed a little at himself as he asked, “Does this skirt make my butt look too big?”

                    ❝ no more than normal ❞ his quirked brow caused a slight wrinkle in hers, she was here to forget, drink and forget, talking just made it all too real. it wouldn’t be long before everyone knew but even then she’d rather not lead with it. ❝ no one want to play quidditch with you everyday? ❞ she teased ❝ sure you’re not out of practice then? ❞ it was all teasing, anyone with the slightest interest in hogwarts quidditch knew the bones family were a powerhouse of the game. ❝ it was pretty decent, was over in paris for most of it, only got back the day before my owl results ❞ despite how her results had angered her parents she couldn’t help but feel pride in herself.

He rocked from his sitting position into a jump onto his feet. He mimed a swing of a beaters bat and grinned at Elodie. “Drunk and out of practice, I’d still destroy anyone on the field, even you Allaire,” he teased back. Despite her heavy French accent, he still always was shocked when she reminded him she was from Paris. “Oh yeah? How many OWLs ya’d get? A drink for every one of them,” he challenged as he handed the bottle back to her.

Despite the fact that she was trying to insist she was innocent in all of it, Lux couldn’t help but smile at his compliment. Her singing voice was something she rarely gave any thought to. Not one part of her had ever considered sharing it with anyone so there was no reason to be concerned about whether or not it sounded good. “I regularly go see thestrals. At what point does it logically make sense that I don’t like toads? I’ll sing in front of people when you streak through the Great Hall.” That sounded ridiculous enough in her head.

He took a moment to seriously consider her proposal. He was certain Lux didn’t think he would follow through with it, which made him all the more determined to agree. “Deal.” he simply said and shoved his hand out for her to shake on it. “I’ll streak through the Great Hall, and you join the Frog Choir.” She hadn’t set the terms of when he would have to streak, though for his plan to make her hold to the end of this bargain it would have to be when a large portion of the student body to be present.

“I heard that addition,” she accused, narrowing her eyes, “Today.” Deciding to drop the subject, though, she straightened back up and shrugged her shoulders. “Sometimes I just can’t sleep and sitting in bed is far less entertaining than seeing what I can get up to around here. Besides, who are they to set a curfew. No one is in control of me and my actions. It isn’t as if I’m harming anyone. Maybe I just wanted a little bed knocking to tire me out,” she exaggerated, wondering if she could fluster a drunk Edgar.

“You make fair points little McKinnon,” he had forgotten already that he had made a promise not to refer to her as that. It took his inebriated brain a moment longer than usual to pick up on the euphemism. When he did an amused look rose on his features, “Oh, then who’s bed are you off to knock on?”

“Not too old to kick your butt on the Quidditch field,” he grumbled affectionately. “Bee, you gotta get down. If you fall and break something mom and Amelia will kill me,” he was really trying to pin breaking her fun on other members of their family, when truly it was him who didn’t want his little sister to get hurt.

He shrugged at her dismissive tone and eye roll. “Listen you pay attention in class, right? You do the practicals and assignments and all that fun stuff, yeah? You’ll be fine, they teach us all we need to know with those. Besides, you can just scrape by on your OWLs enough to get into the classes you want to, and then study your butt off for NEWTs. Enjoy your young years while you can.”

“edgar are you—” she looked closer at his face “–are you blushing?” she laughed, she couldn’t believe she’d made him blush. “i didn’t mean anything by it, don’t worry so much, was just teasing.” she tried to dismiss it, he seemed certainly uncomfortable with the accusation. did he not know his reputation preceded him a bit?

He involuntarily began rubbing at his cheeks as if he could erase any trace of a blush from them. This only succeeded in making them a little redder.  He just shook it off with her words though, reveling in the feeling of her hand in his. “Ok, get ready cause I’m going to put this little guy in your hands, and I think he just took a little swim because he’s,” he flipped her hand and rested it against his so both their palms were face up, “wet.” He held the toad steady in her hand.
