I see a lot of videos of people with cougars and coyotes and wolves and otters and sea lions, and they think, oh, they're so cute, oh, they're so helpful to people, oh, they just want pets, and also bears. And I look at every one of them and I think, you are fucking insane for being that close to a wild fucking animal, who is a wild animal, and you are projecting human behaviors on them, when in reality, they can and have killed people. I will never fucking deal with any of that. Now, if they're trained properly, that's something slightly different, but even then, trained animals like chimpanzees and stuff, still rip people's faces off and kill them. So I'll just never trust any of that shit, because I've been kicked in the head by trained animals. I've been attacked by wild animals.

There are plenty of accounts of wild animals seeking refuge and even help for an injury but to think this thing gave a fish and led humans to their offspring is just ignorant as fuck. Like you said “projecting human behaviors” and it’s embarrassing really

Growing up on a river has put me eye to eye with those little assholes more times than I can count and I assure you none of them wanted to be my pal. They quit acting cute real quick when you’re close but I’ve only seen them take a defensive posture. I have however been charged and attacked by a beaver before so don’t let them fool you into thinking they’re all cute and harmless either.

Talking about the actual animal but either way my statement stands

Your average commercial mariner in the PNW hates these vile animals. They are mean, aggressive, destructive, and protected. It’s infuriating for anyone who moors a boat on the upper W Coast. The amount of damage caused by these pests is immeasurable. Not only are they intrusive but they’re horrifically bad for the environments in which they decide to take up residence.

I think the case is silly and frivolous and should be dismissed immediately. Not sure how the angst out of the PNW has any relevance to the case but if it helps out this poor schlub I am all for it.

*** I am not in any way advocating for the abuse or torture of animals. But eradicating and/or deterring some animals from occupying specific areas is a necessity sometimes and seals and sea lions are among the first that need to be controlled.

The problem with all these kinds of animals that bother humans too much is that we let them get away with the shit that they pull. From seals that steal your prized salmon off the hook to the bear that raids your garbage and the coyote that takes your little dog,they have lost their fear of us.We didn't get to the top of the food chain by allowing this kind of crap.Society will never let us do it, but we need to start dusting a few of them. They're not stupid creatures, and when they see the guy next to them take a bullet that free lunch doesn't look so free.Believe me, a coyote who pokes his nose up around here gets a pretty quick response,and if a bear showed up in my backyard I'd most likely shoot him and tell the law that I was in fear for my life, the same thing with cougars. I like nature just like the next person, but I consider man to be part of it, not a separate thing.

Sea lions are chasing salmon as far as 80 miles inland in Oregon.

The California sea lions that took over part of Pier 39 after the big earthquake have been a source of great debate since the early 90’s too. I remember going with my grandma to go feed the sea lions at pier 39 even before the big Quake.

Then there’s Seattle bays and estuaries. There are real life idiots up there demanding that all forms of fishing for salmon be halted because there aren’t enough salmon to feed the poor starving orcas but become violent over any type of sea lion mitigation and/or “harassment”.

Again these fools apparently have zero logic or reasoning skills and fail to realize their interference is directly affecting the issues they’re crying about. Never mind the fact that orcas have a massive range for hunting and easily leave areas without enough food for their pods.

In 1989 when I first started earning a wage on the ocean I could buy “seal bombs” for $10ea. They were water proof explosives used to spook seals and sea lions away from boats, nets, canneries, docks, etc. All that was required for purchase was your commercial fishing license. Now people on the internet cry about lobbing rocks to deter sea lions from breeding grounds and tide pools.

And as @itsoutofgas said, Man is part of nature, not a separate thing from it.

Fuck those sea lions. A herd of them camps out on the entrance to the Bonneville dam fish ladder and takes a bite out of every salmon or steelhead they can get ahold of. They don’t eat the whole fish, just one bite and on to the next one. Their latest trick when there’s not enough of those to keep them happy is to dive to the bottom and kill 200 year old sturgeon for 1 bite too.

Depends on where they eat. In the grasslands they taste like really gamey venison, in the sage brush they taste like really gamey venison, in the alfalfa fields they taste like gamey venison, but in the wheat fields they taste like mildly gamey venison. And they’re stringy and chewy.

They like to get in the middle of a good deer hunt and just give you that stupid stare

Not two days ago I was telling my 18yo about how I took this type of Walkman headset and mounted it inside my motorcycle helmet when I was about 16. I'd ride all over the desert listening to the my Walkman Sport. One day I dumped the bike trying to flip the tape and killed my poor Walkman.

My gut tells me it’s AI. I don’t recall 4 wheel independent suspension on that vintage truck but I can’t see any leaf springs. Which the vintage also has me a little confused, that hood looks off to me. I’m no expert on foreign license plates but the plate isn’t US but the tires look to be Les Schwab brand.

So I don’t know. I ran it through one of those online detectors and it says 98% sure it’s real but my eyes always struggle with ai images and this is doing the same thing to me.

What do you guys think?

A friend's '76 El Comino while we were in highschool. First time in my own vehicle was my '72 Dodge Dart on a trip to Wyoming to buy fireworks.

In the El Comino I got up to 132. I think it could have done more, but I didn't like the feel of it. Felt like floating on water. The engine and transmission were built for speed but the suspension was not.

The Dart also felt like it was floating, but not as wild as the El Comino. The speedometer pegged out at 120 so I don't know how fast it actually went. Probably not much faster than that.

I took a friend's Yamaha Fazer well over 100. Didn't look down at the speedometer after that. Just kept going faster and faster. I have no idea how fast I actually got but the bike couldn't go any faster. That was on I-25 south of Pueblo.

Coyotes are varmints, and rock chucks need a bit more than .22 out passed 100 yards or so. 308 seems pretty superfluous though

My choice ( showing my age) 220 Swift.

Would a 220 swift, price of ammo makes it prohibitive for me though.

My varmint selection goes .22 hornet, .17 Remington Fireball, 5X35smc, 22-250, 220 swift, 6.5X284. If it weren’t for reloading I’d be in trouble

I’d love to learn to reload. I just sold a 19 Badger and a 19 Hornet. Really loved the idea of the rounds but expensive to buy and I’m not set up for reloading yet.

I learned the basics from my dad and when I got out on my own and developed my taste for weird and uncommon cartridges it became a necessity! Best therapy in the world is the time I spend locked in my reloading room. I’ll sit there for hours
