Just when you thought Carnists couldnāt get grosser. This isnāt funny. Competeting for pardon? Iām shocked by the callousness of this.
I already donāt like Thanksgiving for several reasons but go ahead and add this to the list.
Or you could be outraged by Thanksgiving as a whole instead seeing as itās a holiday that celebrates the genocide of millions of natives via imperialism and colonialization. Y'know in conjunctionā¦š
Yup, hence the āseveral reasonsā
The ārespect my choice NOT to be veganā posts all point to the environmental aspect of the vegan movement (being vegan doesnāt help the environment, lettuce v bacon). Or the health aspect (protein tho).
The fact that one chooses to consume sentient beings when alternatives are accessible is indefensible.
So the most that anti-vegan arguments can do is pick away at the sub-arguments for veganism (environment, health). And not very effectively at that.
Meanwhile, the core question remains, if a way of life that seeks to avoid participating in the massive scale of cruelty we humans inflict on animals is accessible to you, what is stopping you from doing it? Is the taste of animalsā flesh, or the way their skins look when you wear them enough reasons to avoid considering veganism?
i am unstoppable
is it sad tht i wanna take a drama class so i can be better at d&d
Uh, mom⦠you chose to be an idiot. Black people werenāt given a choice.
White ppl wanna be oppressed so badly
HETERO NORMATIVITY KILLS Kensington Market, Toronto 28. 08. 2017.
someone said āthe version of me you created in your mind is not my responsibilityā and wow
being poor is traumatic. even if youāre not homeless or starving. never being able to get anything nice for yourself, never being able to go out to eat without feeling guilty, never being able to do anything fun that isnāt free, making you housebound in bad weather because you canāt afford to go to a cafe or a movie. it takes a toll. being poor under capitalism makes your life a waking nightmare. this post must be reblogged by everyone.
Addendum: If perchance you do scrape up the money to do something (say buy a computer or phone because you absolutely need the damn thing for work), you get shamed for doing so. āWhy did you buy that expensive phone if you are poor?ā I spent 20 dollars on it ā¦. āWhat about that nice computer you got there?ā I bought it six years ago, refurbished for about $250. āHow about that big ole television you got there?ā etc, etc, etc. No matter how poor you are, so many people think you should have less if you are āactuallyā poor.
Thereās no two ways about it: poverty is violence.
For all the little kids afraid of coming out look to Lil Nas X.
my new roommate said that her last roommate had an eating disorder and then talked to me about her clean eating and weight loss goals and how she buys clothes that are a little snug to motivate her to lose more
and like honestly? i have anorexia but this is why i constantly talk about the dangers of the āhealth and fitnessā industry and diet culture bc we have essentially normalized certain symptoms of disordered eating but itās ok if itās under the guise of health i guess???
like how is calling it ācleanā eating NOT a way to moralize food
how is intermittent fasting NOT the same thing as skipping meals
how come when i buy clothes that donāt fit, itās something i have to tell my therapist about because it means i am putting pressure on myself to fit into them, but if a ānormalā person does it then itās just motivation for them?
where is the fucking line???
and more importantly when are we going to start acknowledging that the entire world is pro-ana but thatās too harsh of a description so we slap some health buzzwords on it to make it palatable
when are we going to take responsibility for encouraging disordered behavior instead of labeling those of us with EDs as the crazy/imbalanced ones
your fucking Whole30 or keto or whatever ācleanā diet youāre on is just as restrictive as the diets we create for ourselves due to our disorders. but we are the crazy ones, right
Fucking repost.
You know whatās really frustrating as a vegan, and as someone who cares about all the political and moral things that are going on in the world?
Meeting other people who you agree with on everything else EXCEPT veganism. Itās so fucking beyond mind boggling and gross.
I canāt even count the number of people who I have met (and some I still know) in social or activist circles, where our ideals and morals and political ideologies and economical ideas are basically interchangeable with one another...
...but as SOON as veganism is brought up IN ANY capacity, those people turn into propoganda machines for animal agriculture. Even if they have studied and learned what veganism is, they flip the fuck out anyway.
Itās so infuriating.
Honestly, Iād love to go vegan if not for the fact that I live off only $192 for food a month and my entire digestive system is a complete bastard. I just absolutely cannot eat beef. I had one small helping for dinner 3 hours ago and Iām having both heart burn and painful gurgles.
Iām just trying to get out there that not every leftist who isnāt vegan is some type of gung-ho pro-meat person, itās just that sometimes weāre really poor and chronically ill.Ā
Iād appreciate some strategies for kicking the habit if you have some that fit within these two parameters.
As a disabled and broke vegan with serious GI issues, I would absolutely love to help if I can! Feel super welcome to message me in terms of the health aspect but in terms of affordability luckily a plant-based diet is the cheapest pound per pound and I hope the links below might be helpful:Ā

~ A fab article from @acti-veg with some great tips! (and their whole website and tumblr is full of really great information and is really helpful!)

~ HOW TO EAT PLANT-BASED ON A TIGHT BUDGET (AND FOOD STAMPS)
THANK YOU... nobodyās ever taken the time to do this for me, they usually just yell at me to stop making excuses.Ā
Are there any other vegans out there who may have similar issues to the poster above me who may wanna lend their two cents? I donāt really have any physical ailments that stop me from being vegan (also no allergies) and I donāt live on such a tight budget.
@anarchoenby77 I have a food card for about what you live off of but I have been able to be healthy on cheaper and I have GERD and soy intolerance.
Fat (like in meat) can give you heart burn. This is in my experience- any time I have an even mildly oily food im practically spitting up acid.
see if you can get on omeprozole it's a life saver
But you have to figure out maybe with help of a doctor, what you are intolerant to and/or what causes the acid reflux.
Bc that doesn't always mean intolerance.
And beans, rice, lentils, etc tend to be cheaper in most places, beside cheap packed food like ramen which original flavors tend to be vegan.
Eating plant based is easy when you go in for the right reasons so I encourage to visit acti-veg on tumblr look through his blog or other vegans blogs (who are vegan for a cause, not health) to try and really feel the want to do anything you can to eliminate animal products from your life. Because if you dont, it's just food and why stop eating things you like or try foods you might not like or figure out a different way of cooking things etc.
And either way, not everyone can be plant based but everyone CAN be vegan.
Diet is only one part of being vegan, and though important, if you're doing the most you can do then thats all anyone asks. As long as you believe this:
then you are vegan.
It can be scare and it can be hard, but if you follow some vegans like some that are commenting to you and the one I recommended, you'll find it doesn't have to be those things.
All we want is for people to consider that what they were taught growing up isn't fact nor good, like a lot of things society tells us.
Non vegans need to know we are not trying to make you unhappy or take what makes you happy. Most of us are leftists and are furthering the idea of question everything and listen. Instead of fighting against it, work WITH it. What do YOU need? What do YOU want? What helps you get things done?
Find someone that fits you and learn some things!
I'm a poor vegan on food stamps (also about $192 per month for food) and recovering from a restrictive eating disorder.
Honestly? I was completely baffled at the fact that most of my food money was going towards cheese and eggs etc., and when I went vegan I noticed how expensive faux meat and faux cheese it. I just don't buy or eat that stuff unless I can budget for it or have some kind of special occasion. Most of what I buy at the grocery store consists of rice, canned or dried beans, packs of various frozen veggies, MAYBE some tofu and usually some granola with some almond yogurt (from grocery outlet, so that's about 89Ā¢ per cup)
Knowing my financial situation and the crazy rules my eating disorder sometimes throws at me, it's entirely possible to be vegan while relying entirely on food stamps. It just takes a little extra research.
I've been really considering logging everything I eat and how much I spent for every meal to show this, actually.
i donāt know what marvel is... iām too pretty
The only marvel I know is me
