I should be doing more to appreciate the lack of marvel movies in today's popular culture. I once yearned for marvel movies to have this level of irrelevance. They used to feel almost ozymandian, like an empire that had no beginning and no end. and now tony stark iron man is naught but two vast and trunkless legs of stone.
Imagine if we did the “public libraries are punk” thing for other subcultures. Imagine if people made shirts that said “Soup kitchens are grunge” or “Mixed Use Urbanism is Juggalo”.
"The plan to bring driverless taxis to Sydney" ah yes let's put the Hallucination Robots in charge of getting people around Sydney, famous for its excellent road network that is not at all set out like a clump of hair in a shower drain.
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
PSA the "si" in shared YouTube links stand for Seal Indicator. This means there is a nefarious seal tracking your information and will give YouTube your data in exchange for fish. Please remove the part after "?si=" before you click on it or share the link with others because it is a tracking token!
You can also remove the "?Si=" part, you don't need that either.
I can finally share my entries for the Starsand Island homestead layout design contest! Introducing:
Seaview Fields
A rustic cabin with great ocean views, inspired by the Island's changing seasons, nostalgic atmosphere and fantasy elements.
I wanted to create something that looked at home in the setting and reflected both the player character's established connection to the location, as well as the 'crossroads' between the forest, ranch and beach.
I have a walkthrough video and detail screenshots below, but it you would like to vote, and have a look at all the other fantastic designs others have made (seriously have a look!) you can do so here:
The first Homestead Layout Design Contest for the cozy life sim game Starsand Island is now live! We invite all Islanders to unleash your cr
Voting is on until June 14th at 9am PT (You can vote every day, and gain extra votes from sharing links or viewing the game's official social media channels.)
Walkthrough video and details:

2-bedroom 2-story cabin. Fully furnished with a bathroom, study, kitchen-dining area, living room and foyer.
Large treehouse overlooking fields. Perfect for preserves or just enjoying the scenery.
Back garden with a beach road entrance and landscaped pond.
Dedicated crafting workshop.
Landscaped fields for crops and animals.
Ranching shed for coups and produce machines.
A little roadside farm stall area with a shipping bin and easy inventory access.
Wide paved roads and scenic pathways for easy navigation (both by players and passing NPCs and animals)
An orchard lane made for easy daily watering and harvest.
All on a 2x3 Hopeland plot with room to expand if needed.
Solarium Skies
My second entry into the Starsand Island homestead design competition! This one uses a rotation exploit to create custom skylights and solariums. This entry was mostly my ploy to either get skylights and such added to the game that will be easier for all players to place (since it is a bit tricky) and a little bit of PR to convince devs not to patch out the rotation trick in full release since it's super versatile 😅
That said, I'm very happy with how it turned out as it's quite cosy in the rain and snow! There's a video on the voting site if you want to take a better look:

There was a massive shift in how our culture understood morality when, after World War II, the general public realized “just following orders” was not an excuse for crimes against humanity. Now we need another moral shift in which we decide, as a culture, that “for the benefit of the stockholders” is not an excuse for anything.
We kind of need to relearn the “just following orders” part again
Late last year in the US, a Senator with a military background released a video reminding military personnel that they have the legal right to refuse unlawful orders, and the President of the United States tried to have him tried for treason. [x]
So. Yeah.

Ad agency: Please don't steal the King's potatoes, no matter how easy it is.
Regular people: Wait, the King has easily stolen potatoes? How do I get in on this?
Internet users who have been stealing potatoes for years: We made a machine that picks so many potatoes and also that machine is free. Enjoy!
Ad agency: you wouldn't steal a movie?
10 year old me with 0 income and no movie: YOU CAN STEAL MOVIES????

Fun fact! Both the music and the font in that ad were incorrectly sourced and did not provide compensation to the creators
for no reason whatsoever here’s a reminder that if you consider yourself a leftist/punk/abolitionist/anarchist/radical in any sort of way and get called into jury duty, you are to become the most square person on earth during the jury questionnaire!!!
don’t be that guy who says fuck the police in the jury questionnaire! that just gets you sent home! if you want to generate change, interact with the case and use your jury vote for good! ESPECIALLY if it’s a high profile case!
Remember, when you're on the jury, a good "that cop's story didn't add up" will sway a lot more Chads and Karens than "fuck the police."
Had jury duty, can confirm!
An innocent man is home with his family instead of spending his kids' whole childhoods in jail for "resisting arrest" when none of the cops could agree on why he was being arrested in the first place. (But it definitely had nothing to do with him being a Black man in a nice car, honest! 🙄)
And it still took like two hours of delibration after we'd heard all the evidence because one lady was so gung ho about believing everything the cops said, even when not a single goddamn one could agree with their own testimony, let alone their colleagues'.
Pointing out all the inconsistencies and admitted misconduct and letting people slowly come to their own conclusions as the trial played out was fucking hard, I won't lie. I can be patient, but it doesn't come naturally to me.
But. Yelling about how this was obviously a bs case would have shut everyone down and made them stop listening. Asking questions and letting people discuss how the cops tried to make xyz sound suspicious but it was totally normal, or about how if things played out the way the cops said then logically events should have proceeded in a totally different direction, and positing different theories that actually lined up with the evidence presented?
That got people thinking, and everyone realized that for a variety of reasons we all had reasonable doubts that the defendent had committed any of the crimes of which he was accused.
Being able to raise reasonable doubt among a jury of one's peers saves lives. If you get the chance, take it.

My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
it’s so magical and beautiful that there are sprawling interconnected cave systems carved deep into the earth by various geological forces and you don’t have to go in them. there are miles and miles of stone passageways in total darkness that require you to exhale all the air out of your lungs to squeeze through parts of them and you don’t have to be there. some of these squeezes are underwater and require cave divers to take off their oxygen tanks and push them through ahead of them and me i am above ground looking at the sky as we speak. there are untold subterranean wonders no human has ever seen and i will not be the one to discover them #grateful #blessed
so true there could be any number of undiscovered species down there all of which are none of my business and never will be. peace and love on (the surface of) planet earth 💕
Could your top two girl blorbos handle a long journey with each other?
Yes, and it would probably shenanigans free
