I haven’t seen this on my dash so here it is. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill codifying same-sex marriage and it is now going to the Senate where there really is an actual chance of it passing. Sure, there are assholes who won’t support it, but there are Republican senators willing to support it and we need their support to get this passed. If you live in a state with a Republican senator, please call the senate office telling them that as a constituent, you support same-sex marriage and the Respect for Marriage Act.

For clarification: Same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states right now based on the 2015 Supreme Court ruling. But, with the court standing as it is and with Roe being taken down, codifying same-sex marriage in law would mean that the Supreme Court would have a much, MUCH harder time stripping away the right. This is important. Marriage as a legal binding is critical to allowing spouses to visit each other in the hospital, make medical decisions, share assets, adopt and form families, and more. We need TEN Republicans to support the bill, so far there are FIVE likely supporters - we need AT LEAST FIVE MORE.

Cannot believe I’m making this post but PSA! The “salt lick test” is not a medical test for sodium deficiency, it’s what some random fuck on this site calls eating as much salt as they think tastes good. Please stop taking medical advice from this site dear fuck. Sodium is not something our bodies adjust flavor to in response to how much we need it. Hypertension (high sodium, high bp) is much more common than hypotension (low salt, low bp) and can kill you. Low blood pressure, while sometimes uncomfortable, is a much less dangerous state. Do not just eat salt until you’re tired of eating salt. Fuck.

It is worded as though the OP learned this from a doctor, or at least someone that knows something about nutrition. "Why didn't I learn about (nonexistent thing)????" Search for 'salt lick test' online. There's nothing, because this isn't a thing. And if you learn about nutrition, and the way sodium works in the body, it's pretty obviously not a thing.

I don't want people to feel unintelligent for believing posts like this, though. It's not everyone's responsibility to know about hypertension. It's not your fault if you think this is sound advice. It is the responsibility of OP to not spread medical misinformation. They might honestly think they're helping people, but this is not the way to do it. All they are doing is further harming people that are worried about their health.

Yes, some people are sodium deficient. My close friend and I have low sodium and low blood pressure and eat as much salt as we want because of that, but surprise I guess? We don't like licking pure salt. That's why we're low. Because we don't like to eat that much. Our bodies sometimes have very helpful ways of telling us when we need certain nutrients, but sometimes we have to use the brain part of our bodies as well.

The reason this upset me so much is how many people I saw in the notes saying "oh no, I never get tired of eating salt, I must be very salt deficient!" and bc OP acted like this is a standard practice, and bc this website is full of impressionable people that just trust too much, they'll probably start consuming way too much and suffer health risks. And it feels like a great example of how misinformation is so easy to avoid spreading, but for whatever fucking reason, people keep doing it anyway.

An Alaska Native group decided to make a video game. It’s like nothing you’ve ever played before.

It’s called “Never Alone” (or “Kisima Ingitchuna”). And it wasn’t developed by Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, or any of the other big game studios.

It was the brainchild of the Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC) — a nonprofit community support organization for Alaska Natives and their families.

And while many Alaska Native communities are struggling to hold on to their identities in the 21st century, the council saw “Never Alone” as both a way of becoming more financially self-sufficient and a necessary new method of transferring cultural knowledge from one generation to the next.

Today I learned that Van Halen have that rider in their contract about “a bowl of M&Ms with all the brown ones removed” in order to know at a glance if the promoter read the entire contract.  And the reason they do THAT is because they once had a stage collapse because a promoter hadn’t read the proper way to set up all the specific technical stuff.

So if the band goes in the dressing room or catering and sees brown M&Ms, they know they have to double-check the stage setup for safety.

interesting how this has become a meme in the music industry about divas. i’ve always heard jokes that amount to “this stuck up celebrity hates the green gummy bears!! they’re refusing to perform just for that???” and its reading stuff like this that i realise how that joke might have come about. people get grumpy that the band refuses to play but cant admit its because THEY’RE incompetent, so they make it all about the M&Ms. another example of artists using a creative method to ensure they have a perfectly reasonable request fulfilled that is then bastardised by lazy people who wanna make money off them.

“It’s just a script whats the problem lol” the problem is that Fox, CNN, CBS, and all the other channels repped here, despite claiming to be different companies with different viewpoints, all had the exact same script, word for word, to push the exact same viewpoint that smaller, independent news outlets are Fake News and “A Threat To Our Democracy.” The fact that they have scripts isn’t the problem. The problem is they all, each and every one, have the exact same script down to the letter and in some cases the fucking inflection, which basically reads “small news stations are untrustworthy and a Threat to your Way Of Life, only trust Us, We Are Verified.”

These channels are all local channels owned by Sinclair broadcasting, a right wing media conglomerate that recently gained control of almost all American local news channels after Ajit Pai’s FCC heavily deregulated telecom companies. This is not some broad spectrum media conspiracy, it is specifically an attempt at a right wing takeover of all American local broadcasting for the purposes of propaganda.
