okay stay with me for this one.

When Ilya moves to the Centaurs he doesn’t get to keep his number. Some old fuck on the team already has it and refuses to trade, no matter how much Ilya bribes him.

so, in true Ilya Rozanov fashion, he picks the number 24. People think he did it to be an asshole, which is true, but he also did it to have Shane with him all the time. Shane was both infuriated and touched by it.

but then of course, years later, SHANE transfers to Ottawa. And lo and behold, the old fuck who had number 81 retired, so when Shane has to choose a number?

81 is available.

so the first day of training, Shane walks into practice in a jersey that says Hollander, 81, with an absolutely shit-eating grin on his face.

and Ilya goes insane.

and there were no nice men in montreal? i don’t know, probably…. i never even looked. how could i look away once i’d seen him. he and i are so evenly matched.. what makes you think i’d want just anyone? you don’t even know how intertwined we are… if i look back through the years, there he is. all of my most vivid memories from the past decade have his fingerprints all over them, if you really looked, you’d see. he’s in my throat, in the muscle of my jaw, along my spine, pressed into the skin of my inner thigh like a bruise. he’s in my eyes, even. you’d see him there, in the back of my mind, always present. not that you’d look that closely. not that you’d be able to recognize him, if you did. you don’t know him like i do. no one else would do — he’s it. yeah, he’s sort of an asshole, but he’s a good man. he has a good heart, i promise, you’ll find out in time. nice is nothing.

Really appreciated how the fireworks scene at the end of The Pitt season 2 tied the experience up in a nice bow.

We had been wondering why the show took place on July 4th when it made plots like Orlando the construction worker or Dr. King's deposition feel a little out of place.

But this season there is a common theme. The ills that plagued the hospital this season:

Understaffing due to working on a holiday with no extra incentive.

Understaffing due to continued corporate mentality. Gloria was not in this season because admin would not be working a holiday but her rationale from scenes in season 1 haunt the narrative.

ICE presence intimidating several workers to leave their shifts and the arrest of one of the emergency department staff.

Rural hospitals being closed bringing in additional patients outside of Pittsburgh community.

Cyber attacks on America's birthday from external actors.

King being taken off of the floor to speak to lawyers about the anti-vax parents from season 1.

Orlando dying because he returned to work against medical advise due to being uninsured and crippled by medical debt.

The wild pregnancy because a pregnant woman distrusted the medical industry.

Burnout and mental fatigue from work/life balance erosion, people staying hours past the end of their shift because they did not want to abandon their coworkers and patients.

Every single one of these issues is a symptom of America. Of an insurance run capitalistic medical system that grinds people to dust and causes people to die because they felt the need to return to work. Where innocent people are arrested and harassed by state powers. Hospitals filled beyond capacity because rural locations are shutting down everywhere. Where the population is fueled by ignorance and mistrust of the people there to care for their health in part because of the financial powers that create an abusive anti-people system. Where doctors are sued for saving lives.

And after a 15 hour nightmare shift our doctors gather to watch the big grand celebration.

But there's nothing to celebrate.

They can only mourn.

This is America.

The sickness that these doctors are trying to fight by taking care of every symptom that runs through their door.

...and they are losing that battle.

I remember there's a full spectrum of emotions in the bathroom scene in episode two where he goes from: fuck you, I hate you, whatever, you're an asshole to please suck my dick. And, I saw that on paper. I was like, what the hell? How do I get here? I didn't want to talk with Jacob yet. I wanted to find my own way in, and then it became one of my favourite scenes to do because that informed the rest of the character that is always there under anger, under sadness. It says I want you and not just in a sexual way, but I like you, you make me swoon, you make me melt. I think that's a really interesting layer. — Hudson Williams
