Notice about my health.

In October of last year, I began having concerning symptoms. Recently, Feb 2023, I was diagnosed with probable ALS. I'm trying to remain hopeful, but my condition has been deteriorating rapidly. My mother had the same horrible disease when she was around my age (early 40s) and died nine months after being diagnosed.

I don't want to just disappear without warning, so here I am.

For now, I'm still hanging around fandom spaces and finding much needed solace there. But I no longer have the energy to create fanworks. Again, I hope somehow it's all a misdiagnosis and I get better and can come back to doing what I love full force.

But in case I don't, I just wanted to leave a message for anyone looking for me.

Even if I'm not here to respond physically, I'll still be around in spirit.

It gives me a lot of comfort and satisfaction to know my work will live on after me, whether that's a day soon or in the far future. Much love and gratitude to all the gracious members of all the fandoms I've treasured.

I noticed this myself reading the prequel comic, but never expected a 'news' site to pick up on it. I don't believe it's actually intended to be queer hinting, but it is good headcanon / fic fodder.

If you insult your own creative work, you're also insulting anyone that likes it. Unintentionally, inadvertently, but nevertheless it's what's happening.

Other people have posted about this before, but I just have to say it again because I just encountered it and it really saddens and frustates me.

I was reading a fic and loving it. Absolutely delighted by it. It was hitting all the right notes perfectly to me. I was half composing, in my head, a gushing comment to leave when I finished reading the chapter.

Then I get to the end note and the author says of their work, "this is stupid, but..."

It doesn't matter what came after the but because at that point all the happiness I'd gotten from reading the fic immediately fuzzed into shameful hurt. All enthusiasm to comment faded. I left a kudos. I tried to still comment, even briefly, and utterly failed.

All I heard in my head was, 'this is stupid, so you're stupid for liking it.'

I know that's not what they meant. I know self depreciation is a learned behavior. I know it's a defense mechanism.

But so is going quiet when it feels like someone is insulting you for liking something. It comes from being mocked for showing enthusiasm for 'odd' interests, especially repeatedly during childhood.

I know the author likely wants comments telling them it isn't stupid. I really want to be encouraging. I'd really like to help them through their apparent lack of confidence.

But instead, my limited spoons are being spent assuring myself that I'm not stupid for liking this fic. I now have to remind myself that the happiness I felt reading it isn't something to be ashamed of.

The author couldn't overcome their own self confidence issues to post their fic without insulting it. So now I can't overcome my own self confidence issues to comment.

We're mutually at fault here, perhaps. But regardless it's a sad shame.

Pierce Brosnan, an assassin in a bathhouse.

If I had a penny for every time Pierce Brosnan played an assassin at a bathhouse in a movie, I'd have two pennies. That's not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

It occurs to me that an interesting comparison analysis could be made about the parallels between Pierce Brosnan's first movie role in The Long Good Friday, where he plays a hitman that seduces and kills a guy at a bathhouse (yes, seduction in a gay way), and his first Bond movie, Goldeneye, where Xenia seduces and tries to kill him at a bathhouse (in a less gay way).

This isn't that analysis, but just me saying it occurs to me. Lmao.

And a bonus cut to Pierce talking about The Long Good Friday, including major spoilers for that movie, Pierce in much smaller swimming shorts than in Goldeneye, and saying 'gave him the old knifey knifey'...
