EVERY CYCLOPS AND ROGUE INTERACTION IN X-MEN EVO - Colliding into each other (1x03 Rogue Recruit)
EVERY CYCLOPS AND ROGUE INTERACTION IN X-MEN EVO - Rogue using Cyclops’ power for the first time (1x04 Mutant Crush)
Very latecomer here but I recently wrapped up season 2 of Agent Carter.
So, Leviathan and the Council of Nine...those are both Hydra right? Probably deep cover enough that neither group knows they’re branches of the same organization but that’s how Hydra operates.
Infiltrate a pre-existing organization, funnel resources, cultivate an inner circle, manipulate events via proxys.
Which makes all the Peggy Carter hate I’ve seen even funnier to me. She gets pinned with the in-universe actions of other characters (Colonel Philips pardoning Zola), plus some massive logic leaps to claim she would theoretically be responsible for the fictional equivalent of real world events.
Meanwhile, her own series clearly shows Peggy having to claw her way back up from the bottom ranks of the SSR, post-war. And then Vernon Masters is right there, grooming traumatized war hero/poster boy Jack Thompson for a comfy seat as the head of whatever new department replaces the SSR where he’ll go to all the parties, meet all the mucky-mucks, and sign-off on whatever initiatives his new patron hands him without a second thought.
Thought I could watch the new Thor trailers and be chill but nope. Apparently I’m still not over it.
The Ragnarok reboot took a male character who was strong and confident but also genuine, honest, and always open with his emotions then turned him into an insecure, posturing, man-baby who cannot process complicated feelings and makes snippy passive-aggressive jabs at anything that threatens his ego.
But it's played as a joke so we're supposed to find it adorable.
And fandom somehow convinced itself this was incredibly woke and the most feminist thing ever.
I’m sorry, This is 100% a downgrade and it still fills me with rage five years later.
Ah, She-Hulk discourse. You’re back.
I can’t say I missed you but honestly it’s my fault for not seeing you coming.
mommy? sorry. mommy? sorry.
Sersi from the eternals
I wasn’t gonna post this on here originally but I just thought to go for it so here u go.
Eternals. 2021. Dir. Chloé Zhao
Golden child: One who is favoured or the favourite, often held in high esteem by others, and for whom there are high hopes.
More spoilers for The Eternals follow.
I think of the Eternals, Kingo is the most easily understandable for me personally, and perhaps for others too. His primary motivation is family; this gifset by @eternalssource points out a few major decisions Kingo makes in this narrative, both specifically driven by family. They’ve gif’ed two; Kingo makes three major choices in this movie.
The first is when he’s presented with the need to drop everything and figure out what’s going on with the Deviants. Even though he’s just started shooting on his movie, the first of a trilogy, he goes. Not happily, but as soon as this line is dropped, he’s in. He leaves his successful career, potentially to some significant consequence (loss of funding, loss of his reputation), and he goes.
When he’s presented with the Emergence, he at first agrees to help because his family has decided to take this course of action. He has faith in Arishem, which is…not great when he knows what’s going on, but fine, we won’t open that can of worms at the moment. When his family asks, he chooses to stand against Arishem’s plan.
Then Ikaris shows his colors. Kingo, here, makes choice number two.
He turns against Ikaris. Kingo’s made it clear up to this point that he believes Ikaris should be in charge (he calls Ikaris boss on multiple occasions), but when Ikaris moves to harm one of their own, with no hesitation or remorse Kingo uses force to defend.
And finally, choice number three: Kingo leaves. He leaves because he can’t stand against Sprite and Ikaris, isn’t willing to fight them. He lived with Sprite for a long time before he left her in Macedonia. He considers Ikaris his leader; he won’t stand against them. The next time we see Kingo is after the fight is over.
There are other things; he’s one of the ones we see most frequently signing to Makkari.
He was sensitive enough to Sprite to know when she was in love and expressed his sympathy. Sprite inspired him to tell stories for dozens of years. Kingo is still eligible to babysit Josh (Phastos’ son). Kingo values his family in a very human way.
He’s interesting for other reasons too; he genuinely believes in Arishem’s reasoning. He’s not thrilled about it, but he’ll watch the Earth burn - including his valet of fifty years - and do nothing. Clearly, fifty years was not enough to make Patel important enough to Kingo for Kingo to even try and justify his actions to the man. He cared about his movie crew’s livelihoods (it’s one of his concerns before he leaves to help them hunt down Gil and Thena), but not about their fiery deaths beyond what seems to be an abstract way.
He’s selfish, he values his family, he knows that sitting out the decision is its own decision and does it, and he’s torn up when his family is torn up. He likes attention (he’s a movie star; the man likes talking about himself. He wants to make a documentary. About himself). He doesn’t care about those outside of his sphere. He seems to view humans as disposable, or at least acceptable sacrifices.
As long as his family is well, he finds the outcome acceptable. Many of us feel the same, even if it turns us into people who’d let the world burn if we had to pick between others and the people we love.
Kingo + protective brother energy
+ Bonus:
i’ve been rewatching eternals quite a few times in the last couple of days and i just noticed something that melted my heart.
this is kingo’s face while watching sprite’s illusions in babylon:
and it’s just a detail but it makes so much sense. when they meet up again and sprite’s mad he tells her that he loves movies because he misses sitting in the audience, listening to her stories and watching her illusions. and i’m so happy they included this detail that perfectly sums up the kind of relastionship they have.
my latest bout of eternals brain rot is the fact that some people in the MCU had to have an inkling that these all-powerful immortal beings were just chilling across the world like I’m picturing a SHIELD file labeled “Mind-Control Cult in Amazon” right next to “Immortal Bollywood Star” and Fury’s just like don’t have the energy for that today and goes back to Carol
Ok, so I'm absolutely obsessed with the family hierarchy in the Eternals and I haven't really seen people discussing it (maybe between 2 eternals, but not as a whole). Here are my thoughts and I would love to hear yours! I came up with this after seeing the movie 4 times in theaters and there's a little headcanon sprinkled in.
This list is in hierarchy order.
(I am using their canon genders, but all of them being nonbinary/agender is valid)
Ajak - the ultimate mom and team leader that loves all her ducklings, but still makes questionable decisions sometimes.
Phastos - Mom's geeky younger brother/the gay uncle who’s life is only together at his husband’s insistence.
(I'm not as sure about this one, because while Ajak and Phastos definitely strike me as siblings rather than mother/child, he also seems more older brother than uncle to the rest most of the time? Idk)
Ikaris - the perfect, loyal soldier and the eldest that can keep a secret, but is very traumatized over it.
Gilgamesh - the softie 2nd eldest brother who will kick your ass if needed and whose love language is food/caretaking.
Thena - the badass older sister with TraumaTM but she loves her family and does not want to see them hurt. Has rich, posh vibes.
(Ikaris is just slightly "older" than Gil and Thena who are about the same "age")
Sersi - the emotional support middle sister/the humanoid embodiment of Agape.
Kingo - Como se dice middle child syndrome? Loves his family to pieces, but can't help being the center of attention all the time.
(Sersi and Kingo are like "6 months" apart)
Makkari - the adventurous 2nd youngest sister that will be stealing (read: persevering) some shit but is a ray of sunshine so it's fine. Will rock your shit if needed.
Druig - the pain in the ass younger brother because his feelings are a pain in his ass. Loves everyone but the AssholeTM and his lackey.
(Makkari is "9 months older" than Druig and will absolutely use it to get her way and everyone else will back her up, leaving Druig to pout in the corner)
Sprite - the brat that hides her pain with sarcasm, just so happens to be the youngest. Will stab a bitch.
(Sprite is the "oops" baby that grew up really fast to keep up with her siblings even though they support her just being a kid)
Sersi - Prime Eternal
Eternals (2021)
