Who am I?

My name is Kiwi, Shu, or Thanatos Butterfly depending where you have meet me! My pronouns are they/them/He/Him. I’m in my mid 20s.

In my mundane life I am an art history student, who’s is also getting their graphic design and studio arts degree, along with the study of psychology. I enjoy reading many different types of books, hiking, and working on my art career and spending time with my cat!

Who do I worship/what do I practice?

I’m an Eclectic, witch, spirit work, and deity work of many years!

• I’m being courted by Thanatos.

I also include basic worship of other Greek deities in my practice. I do work other spirits and other entities from other pantheons. 

My practice include many forms of: herbal, green, kitchen, divination, baneful, and protection.

Random spirit work thoughts.

It's so hard to have a firm opinion about things sometimes, because when you go ask the spirits, each of them has a different perspective.

If I go to them with a problem, I'll get all different kinds of advice.

A rock spirit will be like "Become silent and inscrutable. Don't give stuff out for free. Make people come to you. Observe if they're willing to work for things. Work on being secure in yourself."

A tree spirit will say stuff like "Branch out. Look for new ways of existing. Or hunker down to endure this winter, knowing spring will bring new opportunities for connection."

A creek spirit will suggest "Find a way around obstacles. Poke and explore, flow into crevices because there might be a small way through that you haven't noticed yet. Don't ever stop moving."

A mountain spirit will say "Stand firm. Who cares what people think? Do your own thing and if they don't like it, they can go elsewhere."

I'm over here going yeah, all that makes sense. But which of you should I listen to?

They are each correct in their experience of the world, for the type of spirit they are.

But I have to figure out which approach is right for me.

Recently I had the idea of sharing here all of the Hekatean statues, reliefs and archaeological artifacts that I could possibly find. Some days ago I posted one of my favourite depictions of the goddess, an imposing three-bodied statue of Dacian origins, so now I believe its time to contemplate a relief.

The piece that I show you its a tiny disc made with clay and found in a trench of the hellenistic cementery of Pella. According with other findings of the same site, it is dated in the 4th century BCE. As you can see, the disc has the image of a three-headed figure crowned by a polos and surrounded by two torches. The authors of the article I read clearly identify the relief as of the goddess Hekate, but also propose other interpretations like the macedonian/thessalian Ennodia.

It was a little difficult to find information about this limestone statue of Hekate! It is kept at the Archaeological Museum Francesco Ribezzo in Brindisi (Puglia, Italy) and I can only assure that it dates to the Roman Imperial Era.

Beginner witch: What is the best thing I can do to add to my spell so it sticks and stays?

Me: Glitter ✨

Beginner witch: glitter?… isn’t that silly? And very unserious?

Me: Glitter is a bitch, it sticks to everything and no matter what you do to clean it, you’ll always find more. It’s a good way to have a spell stick to a person or yourself, the spell will stay for a long period of time just like if you were to spill a bottle of glitter it sticks to everything, and it’s everywhere even after you clean it up forever ago!

Plus it makes your spells look pretty ✨

Online pagan spaces will trick you into thinking everything needs to be super serious and sacred all the time. But you can joke, laugh, cry, and vent with your deities. You can be silly, you can make mistakes and be vulnerable, doing so will not tarnish your reputation as a real practitioner.

I get people who see my art and are shocked I'm actually a practicing Luciferian. I get people who see my ritual work and are surprised I would ever dare make such scandalous art of my Patron. I think those practitioners who have the best relationships with their deities are those who can worship and commune, co-exist with God as if they were your companion, not your master.

People should use safety pins in witchcraft a lot more. They're literally safety pins. My principle for them is when they're closed, they can provide very powerful protection, but when open, they can bring danger and pain. Now imagine the potency of rusted safety pins.

But.

I'm always annoyed by "Beginner Witchy!" Or "Baby Witch!" Content.

Nothing is "Baby".

It is just the basics.

And half of the posts don't follow the basics either.

No. How about "If you pay attention to how clean your house is, it's a reflection of how clean the energies are."

"the basics" that should be considered "for beginners" should revolve around how to live in tandem with the forces at play, how to recognise forces at play, and how to navigate changes in the forces at play.

It's like any art or craft. There's steps and stages and ways that processes are followed. That's how all spiritual traditions that are rooted in cultural beliefs are. And the New Age versions of these subjects are so ignorant that they don't even know what they are talking about to begin with.

this is the most concisely and accurately i’ve heard my view of the gods worded. the names and mythologies are an access point to a greater, broader power, separated and defined only by human culture and not through inherent or tangible boundaries. when i pray to Zeus-Helios i believe i am tapping into the power of the All-Father, the Maintainer of Reality, He who Gives Rise to All, specifically through one cultures’ refinement. He exists infinitely in other cultures, i just choose to worship Him in this specific way. when i worship Selene, i’m flowing down a river that leads to one source, the Moon, in which a wide variety of other rivers also flow into. hellenic polytheism is how i chose to process and interact with these forces!
