I need to emphasize: Rabies does not have an “almost” 100% fatality rate. Rabies has a 100% fatality rate, period. Ebola has a fatality rate of about 50%. There are six people in recorded history who have ever contracted rabies and survived. Six. Six human beings. Ever.

The fatality rate of attempted suicide with a firearm is 82.5%. 

All six of those people were complete flukes. They’re outliers. We haven’t been able to figure out how to recreate whatever the hell it was that saved them and not anyone else. If you are exposed to rabies, and don’t immediately receive intensive post-exposure treatment, you die. Not “probably” die, not “it’s as good as a death sentence”. You are dead. There is no remote fractional percentage of a chance that you will not die. It’s terrifying and painful and ugly. It’s not a way anyone in this world deserves to die.

If you’re not sure whether something was rabies exposure, go to the fucking hospital to be sure, because by the time rabies symptoms begin to manifest, treatment is no longer an option. By the time you suspect you have rabies, it is far, far too late. By the time you start showing symptoms, there’s…nothing that anyone can do anymore.

At that point, the only option is called the Milwaukee Protocol, which, again….we’ve NEVER created an effective, reliable way of treating rabies once it manifests. In practice, it mostly consists of putting you in a medically induced coma–not in any real hope of saving your life, but to spare you the pain of feeling what happens to you while you die of rabies.

I genuinely have no idea to what extent rabies has become an actual joke on the internet or if it’s just that one guy who so help me god had better be some kind of satire, but…rabies is fucking terrifying. “Possible rabies exposure” is one of the scariest phrases I can think of.

None of this is fearmongering. Don’t fuck around with rabies.

this is gonna be an extremely unpopular opinion so bare with me, but i don’t think children should be vaccinated unless they really absolutely want to be and if they grow up into adults who still don’t want to be vaccinated then so be it.

kids are too young to fully grasp what vaccination does to you, and i don’t mean that in a “they’ll make you autistic and die” way. i mean they don’t understand what they’re setting themselves up for in the future. (shots are pretty traumatic for children too, but that’s for another day.) if a child is too young to consent to sex or medical transition if they’re trans, they’re definitely too young to consent to a vax.

i haven’t had any contact with my family for quite some time now, so i have a hard time knowing my medical history, especially with my lack of health insurance and a move to a different country.

because of that, i live with the constant fear that i might have been vaccinated against rabies. my family was extremely poor and had spotty health insurance but its hard to say. but its fucking heartbreaking to know i might never be fully rabid because my parent might have vaccinated me as a child, when i was too young to know, too young to have a say in it.

how many other kids are there, just like me? how many adults have grown up miserable because they’ve been vaccinated against their genetic disposition for a certain disease? its practically eugenics and it makes me fuckin sick to my stomach. there are babies RIGHT NOW getting vaxxed bc “thats what’s healthy for them” and their parents have no idea how much grief they’re causing right now.

My Rabies Story

My Story:

I have always had a particular closeness to the concept of rabies and identified as rabioromantic before my diagnosis. I decided for the sake of my mental health I would become infected.

This past year I met a girl online who was born with rabies said she could infect me. We met up this past June and, excuse the tmi, took part in BDSM sex. She bit me really hard on the shoulder until I bled and I’ve had rabies ever since.

I refuse to go to a doctor as they tend not to understand rabios/virosexuals, so pleas don’t ask me to.

Does this mean you’re going to die soon?:

Short answer, no. Contrary to belief, rabies doesn’t actually kill you. I’m in the incubation period atm so I have no symptoms. Everyone experiences rabies differently and I could potentially live a full happy life. For example the girl who bit me was born with rabies and hasn’t died yet.

Are you going to infect other people?

Not unless they really want to. I currently curb my biting impulses by biting into raw steaks so I’m fine and safe to be around. (x)

I was cleaning my room this morning and I came to a sudden epiphany.

I mean, Santa has a lot of bard-like qualities. He’s always dormant throughout the entire year up until Christmas Eve. That’s when he just suddenly does his thing, going out to every house in one night and giving every kid their presents. This reminds me of when Gamzee became sobor and went batshit crazy. And after Karkat shooshed him, He just went around and did his own thing. Except, rather than going on a murder spree, Santa travels around the world delivering presents in one night. Also, about that; I think Santa invites the destruction of Time so that he can do that. Time folds and wrinkles around itself as Santa moves from house to house, allowing him to perform his feat all before sunrise. Timezones? Santa doesn’t give a shit about them. It’s like Time doesn’t apply to Santa on Christmas Eve. He breaks it for one night, and does it again the next year. It’s actually kind of awesome in my opinion. Also, destroying Time could be how he’s seemingly immortal. Or, at most, he just slowed down his aging by a lot.

100% due to shipping/fandom discourse. People originally started by calling me a pedophile apologist because of ship discourse and I guess that’s losing it’s effectiveness so they’re moving on to straight up calling me a pedophile — which is absolutely disgusting to me as a CSA survivor and hilarious as someone who has always been attracted to people who are significantly older than I am, never younger and very rarely actually in my own age range. I wasn’t attracted to kids when I was a kid and I’m certainly not now.

I’m just another person in a long, long line of other people getting put on a smear campaign over stating that fiction and fictional ships are not reality and not on the same level as actual abuse experienced by actual people.

I agree that fiction isn’t reality, but consider this: a person with sexual feelings towards minors reads a fiction where a pedophile is described in a positive light. If they get the courage to go rape a minor because of said fiction, isn’t the author of the fiction partially to blame?

If someone who fantasizes about murder watches Hannibal and goes out to kill someone, are the writers of the show to blame?

If someone who fantasizes about robbing banks watches a movie about Bonnie and Clyde and goes out to rob a bank, is the writer of that book to blame?

If someone who fantasizes about going on a violent crime spree plays Grand Theft auto and goes out to enact those fantasies, are the creators of the game to play?

The answer to all of these questions and yours is, of course, no because the only thing and the only person responsible for a person’s actions is that person. Reading about something happening in fiction does not cause people to do those things. It does not force them to do those things. Fiction does not posess the power to compel a person’s actions even if the person fantasized about before, no matter how romantic that fiction may be, because they have to CHOOSE to act and fiction can not force them to make that choice.

This is not a line of reasoning I’m pulling out of my ass, either. This is a subject that psychologists have studied for years – questioning whether violent video games or horror movies cause violence and similar lines of questioning have been asked, it’s been studied, and the conclusion has always been a resounding no: fiction by and large does not cause people to be violent and it does not cause them to commit crimes. And on the rare occasions it does, the person influenced has either been in a state of mind where they could not tell the difference between fiction and reality OR they already planned to commit an act of violence and the fiction only gave them an idea for how they wanted to do it.

Denying this, saying that anyone is responsible for an abuser’s actions other than that abuser, is also an incredibly dangerous line of thinking. It opens the door for abusers to deny responsibility for their actions, to blame them on something other than their own choice to harm another person when - again - it is absolutely a choice. No matter how much a person fantasizes about something, no matter how much they write about it or read about it, the point when/if they decide to act on that and make their fantasies real is something THEY have to actively choose to do. That is on THEM. 

Pedophiles who abuse children make the choice not only to act but to take the most harmful action – rather than seeking counseling, rather than turning themselves in to the police, rather than moving to the middle of nowhere and isolating themselves away from people, rather than even killing themselves, the action they CHOOSE is to harm a child for their own gratification out of a million and one other possible actions they could have chosen instead.

Fiction is not responsible for that.

Writers are not responsible for that.

They are responsible for that. It is 100% on them. That is the choice they made and they do not have any right whatsoever to reduce their own culpability for their own behavior and their own choices by trying to pin even a sliver of the blame for their actions on anyone else.
