Help Needed Writing Pagan/Hellenistic Character!
Hello everyone! I've recently started writing/developing a novel that includes a character who happens to be pagan, specifically Hellenistic, but I want to make sure that I properly and respectfully represent the Hellenistic religion and culture. And since for some reason I can't seem to find a lot about the Hellenistic experience anywhere aside from here and Reddit, I decided this would be the best place to ask for help.
Here's some context on the story, if that helps with proper representation, which god might be their patron (I have a few ideas but, again, I figured I should probably hear others' suggestions), etc.
The story takes place about a year after a monster apocalypse destroyed most of society. Most of the main and side characters live in a dystopian compound that, while giving out the basic survival needs, is mostly interested in "keeping people in their place." Basically everything's fascistic as hell :( However, magic/monsters/etc. seem to be weaker on the compound, which is why they settled there in the first place. Very odd...
The monster apocalypse is exactly as it sounds. Vampires, werewolves, and really any other mythological and/or spooky creatures appeared one day and shit started hitting the fan. The only warning sign that something big was about to change in the world was the fact that everyone's dreams basically became a hivemind. Anyone can visit anyone else in their dreams, and that means the monsters can hunt people in their dreams too. So sometimes people just don't wake up. Sleeping pills/meds seem to block out the hivemind, and anything you fall asleep with follows you into the dream hivemind (ex.: if you sleep with a baseball bat, you'll have a baseball bat in your dreams). Spoilers: Nyx and Hypnos made the dream hivemind, they just didn't realize it would have these kind of consequences so they protect mortals whenever they can.
More spoilers: basically the apocalypse happened because Chaos tried to mess with the universe because they didn't like how humans were screwing with it (which, y'know, fair), but he messed up somehow and his power/magic has been slowly seeping throughout the universe and infecting everything. It's not necessarily bad, but it's not necessarily good either. Gods and deities from many different religions (like, ALL OF THEM) are trying to help humans as best they can, but Chaos's power being all unstable makes that difficult no matter how much any one of the gods/deities are worshipped.
CW/TW: Mentions of sexual abuse in the next bullet point
The Hellenistic character, Willow, lives in the dystopian compound mentioned in bullet point one. Unfortunately, like many of the other young women in the compound, she has been forced into prostitution. She is completely human, but many times she wishes she wasn't so she could destroy all the men who hurt her and the rest of the women within the compound; all she wants is her freedom and to be able to live out her life in relative peace and quiet. Willow has been Hellenistic ever since she lost her family in the beginning stages of the apocalypse, and while it has helped her a lot she's still stuck in the compound and is really trying to maintain her faith/devotion as best she can, no matter how doubtful the situation she's in makes her. (Another spoiler: don't worry, she escapes with some other characters; she's got trauma but at least she's got friends to be traumatized with I guess?)
Willow is also pansexual btw; not sure if that influences anything but I figured I might as well mention it.
And that's all I can think of! Please tell me your opinions, whether I should tweak something, what Willow's patron god(s) should be, etc. Any and all feedback helps! Thank you, and have an awesome day/night! :)
