So the same guy who showed me the "You look cute today" note just came up to me with another note asking for my number?

I am both flattered and confused.

But I did give it to him.

It felt like the polite thing to do?

You're not wrong to feel icky about it; I would too! He met you while you were at work, and unable to get away from him without commiting a social taboo, and forced your hand when he asked for your number while you were on the clock.

I don't like the "don't tell anyone lol" because that is isolating behavior. Tell whoever you want about your dating life. He shouldn't ask you to keep him a secret.

I do appreciate the Asking about physical behavior. Hopefully he adhers to your boundary, and doesn't try to push you into unwanted physical contact. Be clear and follow through on consequences if he acts badly.

The part where he admits that he thought you were younger, and then admits he is nowhere near 26, feels odd. How young did he think you were?? Kinda creepy, but if whatever age gap there is doesnt bother you, he's still interested in you!

He uses "lol" a lot to add levity to his words, could in an attempt to play off the seriousness, and to look nonchalant. Its like "jk. Unless?" He's serious about what he's saying, unless its frightening/disagreeable to you. In that case, lol.

I also think that he wants a physical relationship. The "you gave me sweet dreams" implies sexy dreams of you, or at least that's how it comes off to me.

All in all... seems harmless for now, provided he doesn't continue to try isolate you or push you beyond your boundaries. You should be clear with him about what your wants and needs are. And be careful! Have fun! But be careful!

the thing is is that you'll be like. 11 years old and someone will tell you that you have to shave your legs. either it will be your mum or a friend or a mean girl in the p.e. changing rooms telling you how gross it is that you have hair on your legs. so then you ask your mum about it and she says yep you have to take this razor blade and drag it across your skin under running water and just hope you don't cut yourself too badly and you have to do this every single week and maybe more frequently than that and you have to do that for fucking ever. the rest of your fucking life. because the hair that grows naturally on your legs is gross and ugly and people will laugh and boys won't like you! of course boys have hair on THEIR legs. but that's normal and even attractive and it's just not the same for you. and a few years later they'll say well you obviously should also be shaving your armpits. and then it's your arms and then it's that you have to wax your upper lip and pluck your eyebrows and ewww why do you have hair on your fingers and your toes.. you need to shave that too. and then suddenly you need to buy spray that will make invisible hairs on your face visible so that you can shave that too! and it's expensive and time consuming and difficult and it HURTS but they just say beauty is pain babe! and you're not allowed to say that maybe if beauty is pain then you don't actually want to be beautiful

Haven't shaved my legs in 7 years (and I have very dark hair), haven't shaved my armpits except once in the past several years, don't pluck my eyebrows anymore cause if Frida Kahlo can have a hairy brow why not me???

You feel self-conscious at first but then it's like no one notices or cares. I've never gotten a single comment on it except from my mom, and my mom hasn't mentioned it in a few years.

It feels awesome to not shave :D

I'm reading a study on how nurses define the term 'drug seeking', and what makes them more likely to put the 'drug-seeker' label on a patient's charts and. well. let me just throw down some quotes

"Needy, unable to cope" (<- you try coping with chronic pain)

"Comfort seeking" (<- you mean.. having a preference for not being in pain.. how criminal)

"Using or trying to obtain drugs on a long-term, chronic base" (<- do you understand what 'chronic pain' means.)

"Asking for pain med then returning to sleep."

"States he’s level 10 pain, but does not appear to be in pain (or ‘5= on appearance)." (<- it is well-known that chronic pain patients tend not to display pain in the same way as acute pain patients)

"Dramatic response to pain" (<- notice how this directly contradicts the comment above. you cannot win)

"Gets IV med, then leaves unit to smoke or walk around" (<- wow requiring medication and then going off to do something you needed pain meds to be able to do is so suspicious)

the article itself put it best when it says: “some comments depict patients trying to apply sound pain management principles, such as continuing to take medication for persistent pain”. no wonder all the other literature on the matter says that women of colour are the most likely group to be labelled drug-seeking. this shit is entirely vibes-based (read: based on the prejudices of nurses and doctors)

Behold: a very expensive cat

I have already, with the help of many wonderful people, raised $700 towards the x-rays she needs for her back and tail problem. I used it to pay down the credit line I have with my vet so the money could not go to anything else.

Then we had to take her to the emergency vet for gastrointestinal distress that was not going away, even after she'd seen the regular vet the day before and gotten medicine.

It may be hard to see without zooming in, but that is a bill for $950.75. We didn't have this money and couldn't use the credit line since this was not our regular vet. I had to go into my overdraft, and my mother had to pay what I couldn't. Which leaves me...

Well. It ain't good.

Usually I'd be like "Oh it's fine, on payday we'll sort things out" but on top of everything else, hubby Jon has been sick and has had to miss several days of work, so his next two pay cheques are going to be sparse.

I just spoke to the vet, and he is concerned about Java's continued lack of appetite. If she isn't eating normally by tomorrow, we'll need to do an ultrasound to see if there's something else going on. That will cost about $650. Once you add taxes, that'll more than eat up what we'd raised for Java's x-rays. Which also still need to be done. And also her spay appointment had to be moved back because it's risky to do while she's sick

It's all a mess

I know I've already asked for a lot lately, between Casey having 2 emergency surgeries in January and Java needing special care and also now apparently having the mystery tummy ache from hell, but I don't have anywhere else to turn

If you can pitch in to help us survive through these vet bills (not to mention things like paying the mortgage and getting groceries, difficult with reduced pay already) we would be extremely grateful

I know these two things seem contradictory, but there’s nothing a conservative man loves more than to tear off an angel’s wings. There are plenty of women that would willingly choose the obedient SAHM lifestyle, but these kinds of men always seem to go for the opposite. Why? Because it’s a power play. There’s no need to break a horse that’s already broken, and that would do nothing to validate that man, his ego, and his place in a world he sees as designed for him.

Another factor is that these men avoid dating conservative women who already want the lives they want them to have because those women's standards are too high. Specifically, such women expect to be the obedient stay at home mum, but they also expect their men to be the masculine ideal from the other half of the equation -- they tend to look down on their men if they cry, they expect them to be able to financially provide for the household, they want them to uphold their end of the bargain. You see this again and again in groups of conservative men who go out of their way to date liberal women; there is a power play, to tame someone untamed and bring her into line with his expectations, but there's also her lack of expectations of him. They want a woman who will do all the household and keep the home but ALSO will not reject him for not being able to afford to finance the family alone. They want a woman who'll respect and obey him but ALSO be fun and relaxed and let him show whatever emotions he wants. They want the Perfect Trad Wife who won't expect him to be the Perfect Trad Husband.

You see the same thing in conservatives who complain that all their leftie friends are abandoning them, but who won't just hang out with right wing friends instead. They don't want to hang out with other righties because a group of righties quickly becomes judgy and hateful and socially competitive, and is only fun to hang out with when they want to vent, whereas their leftie friends were more relaxed and fun. They want license to be unpleasant and expect unreasonable things of others, but want the people around them to be pleasant and not expect unreasonable things of them.

this is so interesting, because I have OCD and an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation, and those things are 100% related. when my immunosuppressant meds are working, my OCD stops. and when I’m unmedicated it’s like my brain is on fire. the one time I actually saw a doctor for my OCD and went through multiple sessions for it, it was allllll about breaking habits and learning self control, and would you believe it, it didn’t help one bit.

I don't talk about it very much because...well, it's not really a part of my life anymore, but I used to have really, really bad OCD symptoms (never formally diagnosed though) and when I started taking Adderall for ADHD they almost completely vanished.

I mean...I'm still kind of a fundamentally obsession-driven person, but the subjects of the obsessions aren't overwhelmingly negative anymore.

Emphasis of report and block buttons if something said in said spaces makes someone uncomfortable and/or breaks site rules

Game support forums not being locked to Discord servers and easily accessible to the entire userbase

Parental blocks that restrict downloading dedicated "adult community" apps

In mixed age online spaces, adults being less hesitant about using built in content filters such as tags and mature content labels

Parents/guardians understanding age ratings on items such as movies and video games, especially R and M

Parents, guardians, and trusted adults (ex. teachers, librarians) being available to listen and discuss when a topic is confusing (and not immediately get mad and complain about the material)

Better access to youth library materials (ex. young adult)

More/better offline teen spaces and access to hobbies without too much unnecessary expense
