"You know, you might have wanted to catch some sleep before you fall asleep on guard duty?" The tactician smiled as he let himself fall down next to the other in the grass. It had been long days and nights, the outskirts of Shurima harsh on all of the troops. Even if they were only a small force. Arch leaned back and closed his eyes, stretching his fingers. "Are you alright?" (@demacian-mastermind)
Cithria couldn’t help herself. There was an excitement stirred up in her belly that made it difficult for her to sleep. She’d managed to catch a few hours, which were more than enough for her to function, but restless legs had left her frustrated enough to leave her tent and find a comfortable spot high enough to watch the sunrise.
“I’m fine,” she responded quietly as the tactician expressed his concern. “I’ve never been this far out of Demacia. There’s a lot to see, a lot to take in. Even the sunrise looks different here. So why miss it, you know?”
A chuckle escaped his lips. “Yeah. I know how you feel. Though I guess I learned a few lessons since then.”, he said and raised his right arm, the prothesis clickering slightly as he did. “Though I do remember that I was kind of done with being restless for the night after I got buried by a heap of snow falling down from a branch. Freljord is kind of … the opposite of here.”
He smirked and shook his head, before looking towards the setting sun. “I hope you don’t make those mistakes. Then again, a desert isn’t really the … prime place for snow and blizzards, is it now?” Her reached his left hand towards the other in greeting. “I haven’t seen you around before. But, considering that you were recommended by Garen to join this expidition, I feel like I should have. The name’s arch, headstrategist of the Demacian army. And also a few other titles that I don’t really remember.”
To be frank, this was further north or south than Cithria had ever been, though she’d heard a lot more stories about the Freljord than the desert. Even if they weren’t so far as to find themselves in the sandy dunes, the heat and arid winds were definitely different for her. It was only with a lot of focus and composure was she able to wear the Vanguard armor under that sun.
But at sunrise, wearing a much more casual tunic, it was almost enjoyable.
She turned and looked at who was joining her for the first time, eyeing the prosthetic for a moment before meeting his gaze. She took his hand and shook it. “My name is Cithria. I’m actually … kind of new to the Vanguard. I think that’s why I was chosen for this, to get some traveling under my belt. That, or no one else wanted to face this heat,” she offered with a grin. “If I might ask, what are we doing down here? All I was told is that I’d be protecting some surveyors, but the head strategist?”
"Welcome to life of the military. Tell the soldiers one story. Leave the other stories out. It will solve itself somehow.", he said and shook his head. Her had wondered what the commanding officers had brewed up this time. In his eyes, not exactly the best of ideas. "We had reports come in from one of our scouts. She reported that something is amiss in Shurima. And it appeared to her to be on a grand enough scale to justify an investigation. Piltover had requested assistance in the area, so it was a good way to cover up the whole thing."
Was this confidental? Arch blinked and rubbed his chin for a moment, but then really just shrugged. These soldiers were basically risking their lifes for him and others. Even if it didn't come to a lifethreatening situation. He had stood on the field before. The young woman in front of him reminded him a bit of himself back then. Still, there was one thing that the other seemed to be mistaken in.
He looked her over, carefully and judgingly, but still his eyes remained calm. He kept his thoughts to himself mostly, especially because the other thought of herself as such. Garen wouldn't have chosen someone he didn't trust to be an asset to the mission. "Truth be told, I am not sure, what will await us. The surveying here is already underway, but from what I have seen around, something is definitly going on. And ... I am not sure I like it."
